iPhone fault after screen replacement

Just before christmas I had an iphone 5 screen replaced. Everything worked as it should for 2 days then the brightness stopped working. I couldnt take it back to the shop that replaced the screen because they closed for the christmas and new year break.
I searched the problem on google and found that the brightness issue is a common problem due to poor quality screens.
I recently went back to the store that replaced my screen and let them know about my issue, however they said that its not their problem and won't fix my phone. They also said I have a year of warranty for the screen replacement.

Can people advise me what my options are?

Fair Trading & small claims, if they refuse to fix

    • and then high court

Don't know why people bother with these after market replacements rather than having Apple do it.
Yes, it may be cheaper, but you have so much more to lose IMO.

If you have one year warranty on the screen replacement why would they not fix the issue?

    I cannot understand this point.

Let them have the screen back and order yourself another screen from eBay and change it yourself. It is quite easy.

    • Because they think nothing is wrong with the screen and it's possible that they are right.

hi, I'm a repairer here and I'll point u in the right direction.

    1. Contact them and as what the issue is exactly. That they believe. Have a pen and paper and write it down. Also push them to write it down on their letterhead.
    2. Ask them to show you with another screen on there or your original broken one (if it's the glass). Now if it's screen related, another screen will have regular brightness. If it does the same thing, unfortunately they are not at fault as it will be a thing called a backlight IC. Which is slowly dying. Very common in the iPhone 5/5S/5C models. It will most likely not get better.

Now the bottom line is they need to co-operate. They need to rule out it's a screen issue.

Hope this helps, and remember try to be as objective as you can. If you follow the steps above, you are being fair on them and at least if you were to escalate it - you have done the right thing prior to escalation.

    • Excellent answer!

But I guess Fair Trading might side with buyer still as it is a screen issue still :)

Best to let them change to another screen and confirm the case in front of you.

  • Give them a warning that you are going to stand there and tell their potential customers about your issues. They will think you are crazy, but once you start doing that, they would probably do something for you.

  • Fair trading is a mediator and yeah they will break everything down so you and the store can come to some arrangement

Unfortunately some people think it's like a threat to throw around. Which is great in your case you seem very rational.

See it as almost you have gone to a doctor. A below par doctor will say 'can't fix you' as opposed to someone who cares about their client they will always tell you the whole situation and your options.

    Hope this helps.
