I believe this is a direct replacement for the discontinued HFR506 (which I'll use as comparison)

The HRF506 bang for buck its quite good actually with lots of nice features and a very generous zoom.

As with any small sensor camera, noisy at low light levels, no full manual control, no mic input.

Optically the lens is good but does have quite noticeable chromatic aberration in high contrast scenes.

Audio wise, with two mic on the front there maybe isn't as much stereo separation as one might prefer, and audio has a slightly muted feel to it but more than adequate/acceptable.

If you don't own a camcorder, and are looking for something to get started with this would be perfectly fine.
