Thanks for the charity, but I prefer to be a self-made man when it comes to OzB :P

    • Sorry bloomer! Next time :)

      • No hard feelings… much :P

  • I think its a better deal with the 30% off (for a single book) as shipping is free

than the 45% off which does not include free shipping (from $6.90- $10)

it's only worth it if you want an ebook

    • FREE SHIPPING on book orders over $60

    • …or often cheaper still searching on booko

  • Should i buy one of these or read the free travel guides online, like TripAdvisor etc? Are this Lonely Planet book giving much more detailed information?

I am just worried that if i buy one it would be out of date quite soon and become useless..

    • It's a trade-off between focused quality and quantity, I suppose. TripAdvisor has heaps of stuff, but requires lots of sifting through the comments (of various quality). Lonely Planet (and Rough Guides, for instance) tend to have a better quality selection of listings and more quickly accessible tips. I travelled in Japan with the LP and used it in conjunction with TA. LP was great for orientation and basic planning. TA was good for more local planning.

I would never use LP for hotels nowadays. The snapshot of a hotel is just not good enough, whereas the long-term reviews on TA provide a much clearer picture (as long as you read them carefully).

Book guides lose out when there are periods of rapid change/upheaval (e.g. in Greece in the last two years).

    • Do both.

They do tend to get outdated in some of their information (restaurants, hotels, etc) in about 5 years but a lot of the other information in them is quite good.

    • Theres also Monocle guides and DK travel guides which I find are really good too.

  • Top Cashback give a whopping 15% cash back for Lonely Planet.

I find that Top Cashback reliably tracks for Lonely Planet.

Thanks to those who already have.
For better tracking, ensure your ad blocker is off for both sites.
Payment is relatively prompt for Lonely Planet trackings by Top Cashback.

  • Thanks hamza23 for this deal! Got a city guide which will be useful for an end of year trip. Even remembered CashRewards and got the tracking email within 30 minutes!

    • Nice work and no probs, I bought a city guide for a birthday gift with the 30 percent off sale last week then saw this email come through. I forgot Cashrewards though, didn't think it would be available on Lonely Planet and didn't double check.
