Looking into purchasing a bidet

Hey there friends after my recent trip to Japan my posterior has been spoiled by their gracious high tech toilets and I am no longer satisfied with my caveman toilet paper. I was looking into getting a cheap bidet since I won't be needing the fancy shmancy heating or music playing, I was wondering if anyone has bought one off ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TOILET-BIDET-SPRAY-WATER-SEAT-WAS… and how they are. Or even if you can recommend one under $50.

Cheers

  • My parents have one of them, personally I don't like them, when you have to clean the cleaner :)

That's not a bidet, a bidet is a seperate washing bowl for your rear. That's a cheap imitation.

    • They come as part of the toilet, price varies from $50-$2000, with heated seat, etc etc. Separate washing bowl for your rear is old school, they not fashion anymore.

      • Fashion and toilet seats? Tell that to France, the Mecca of all things fashionista and avant guard. Doubt you'll find many Japanese toilet seats, but bidets? Everywhere.

nah they are disappearing in france too, the only people installing them are brits in their holiday homes for keeping the wine cool while having a bath…

    • I have the full separate ceramic basin/bidet in the main bathroom, but for the other toilet I'd rather just have it built in. As long as it does the job I'll be happy.

    • Has anyone even used this thing before? I don't think they are that cheap. This looks like some dodgy device. It may not even serve the purpose. I bet if you use this you woukd get sprayed with a fine window cleaner mist or shot with a super soaker. Won't be pleasent as its also cold water.. Also be prepared to wipe down your walls from over spray..yuck

      • They are much stronger than that. Mine only ever is used on minimum pressure.

  • Pretty sure the real deal would cost you way more than just that cheap looking thing! The real deal will set you back $800+. I did recall seeing similar stuff at costco for like $600 or so though.

    • You are taking about the Japanese toilet seats at Costco. They aren't bidets either but they do have a wash function. And they are $699 I think. Expensive toilet seat.

      • What kinda bidet is the OP talking about?

I thought OP is after a TOTO bidet?

I've never really taken a closer attention to the ones costco sells. I just saw them and thought of those cool Japanese toilets.

Get a bum gun, cost about $20

    • I agreen a handheld spray-nozzle style sprayer is much better than one built into the toilet seat, as it's easily aimable. They're fantastic when you have a case of the runs, as water doesn't chafe like toilet paper, also you save money on toilet paper.

It does take some practice though. When I first visited my wife's family in Thailand, I used the bathroom immediately after arriving home from the airport. They didn't have toilet paper at their house, they only use handheld water squirters. I had never used one before, so just had to close my eyes, pull the trigger and hope I got the angle correct. I didn't. Ended up spraying crap all up my back, inside my shirt and even into my hair. A few seconds after this, wife started knocking on the door saying "Come out quick, my whole family are waiting here to meet you for the first time." I was stuck in the bathroom with turd all over my back and hair and a wet shirt. Thankfully they left after a few minutes so I could have a shower, run outside and find a fresh shirt.

I do like them now and installed one in the bathroom at home. Avoid the cheap plastic ones as in my experience they all break and leak. I went through eight $10-$20 ones, some of which started leaking within a week and all broke within two months. One burst during the night and flooded the bathroom. I eventually bought a stainless steel one for about $45, which has been going about six years now.

Don't buy this one as it's plastic junk, but just showing you the idea:

You can buy good ones at proper bathroom supply stores. You'll also need to buy an inline tap to control the flow rate (many people install stop-cocks but they are awful, you only get on or off, and too high a pressure can literally be a pain in the arse) and a T-piece so you can connect it inline with your toilet cistern piping. It's pretty straightforward but get a plumber to do it if you're not confident.

  • Saw one in Parklea Markets fro around $60 few weeks ago

I just got back from Japan a few weeks ago too. Bought the exact same one from that seller. Took about 35 minutes to install, although most of that was because my water inlet line was solid so I need to replace it with the braided line that comes in this kit.(Also I have no plumbing experience.)
The water pressure on my line is strong so I only need to just go above minimum pressure.
    10/10 would recommend.

  • I don't know why anyone would even think of getting it without heating: brrrr!

Definitely the bum gun, got two in Cambodia about six years ago ,and pardon the pun I haven't looked back.

    • Does it shoot blank bullets?

  • Probably better to get the cold and hot water one. Cold water in winter is a bummer.
