Xiaomi Yi - Won't record high FPS

Hi all,

I know there have been a few deals on the Xiaomi Yi camera recently so hoping some other members might have one too.

I bought the camera through Mushtato with the $99 deal pre-xmas, I recently bought the waterproof case too which seems very good.

I've tested most resolutions and my videos are laggy with 1920x1080 60 FPS and 1280x720 120 FPS. Has anyone else had a similar issue?

This is recording on a brand new Sumsung Pro 64gb micro sdxc which should be plenty fast enough (Class 10 UHS-1)

I had the same problem trying to record 4k on my Sony Action Cam, but that was before I had a fast card. The problem was fixed with a faster SD card, however I can't see the Samsung being too slow with the Xiaomi.

I formatted the card in the camera, still the same problem.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

    • Thanks mate.

I've tried VLC and Windows Media Player, updating the camera, app or no app etc.

Seem strange to me that this issue presents the same way my Sony did with a slow card, but this card is plenty fast enough.

  • Because you can't use an UHS-1 U1 card to record 2K or 4k video. The writing speed of UHS-1 U1 is too slow (minimum 10MB/s). 4K video recording requires an U3 card which has a minimum 30MB/s writing speed. PS: 90MB/s marks on your card is reading speed not writing speed..

    • Thanks for the reply.

      My problem is with 1080p 60FPS and 720P 120FPS.

You also might be confused regarding MB/s and Mb/s write speeds. Even 4K video at 100Mb/s is only ~13MB/s when writing, so my card would be more than fast enough for 4K video recording. I use a similar speed card in my Sony to record 4K without any trouble.

The Samsung card I am using now writes at ~75MB/s.

      • The Samsung card seems fast enough to record 4k video. It should work well for high FPS recording.
I'm not familiar with Xiaomi Yi, but for sony 4K Action Cam, 4K video shooting requires SDXC UHS-I Class 3 (U3) Memory Card. Please check the footnotes of sony's web page

        • Thanks again.

I have the Sony Action Cam 4K, I use the Sandisk Extreme Pro micro sdxc which is UHS-I U3, although the write speed is only marginally faster than my Samsung.

Which I agree, still poses the question why my Xiaomi won't record high FPS - might be time to reach out to Mushtato for advice.

          Cheers.

  • I use my Yi with Samsung Evo 32GB MicroSD fine. Even hacked the firmware for higher bitrates than the default
