Wow and i thought my $13 purchase was cheap

    • Don't you need 100au for 4 units maths

      • +3

That's if you make it through the first term.

        • +1

made it through, got 32/34 in my first exam :)

(the school I go to has a dodgy maths faculty, the average for 4 unit was like 29/34, whereas the average for 2 unit was like 24)

        • @lyl:

is that because you have a lot of weaker students doing 2 unit.

But still 32/34 is a really good mark for a 4unit exam!

        • @Gimli:

I got average for 2 unit though… just glad it doesn't count

      • yeah i use 3 calculators:
        82au set in degrees
        82au set in radians
        100au for complex
        XD

        • why two 82au's

p.s. keep up with 4u. its hard but fun

p.s.s. just tested my 100au i bought about 15years ago still going strong lol.

        • @Gimli:

82au is cheap, and since I can't be bothered setting radians/degrees..

Yeah and about those casios, the batteries on those things last forever.

        • +1

          @Gimli:

          why two 82au's

Common practise for HSC students. They do it because it prevents making the wrong calculation. E.g. A student might need an answer in radian form but they have their calculator assigned to degrees and they make the wrong answer. Having two calculators in degrees & radians respectively, allows you to realise what units the question requires, reducing the chance of getting the answer in a different form and therefore incorrect.

        • +1

@TheOneWhoKnocks: Did you know that there's a degree/radian button that instantly switches the format of the answer?

        • @ronnknee:
          Yes I do.

        • @TheOneWhoKnocks: I would say if you practice having two and ensuring you checked the mode it's in prior would be safer than switching back and forth modes especially in the panic 10 minutes left of an exam period.

I used a Sharp all through high school and Uni and I know I had to rework calc because I had left it in a different mode.

        • @jlogic: Exactly.

  • Nice find on the textas, just bought 6 pks as the kids are always needing textas. Thanks TRENT86

My bad time, I lost two dollars now, bought 2 at Big W two days ago for $9.97 each:-(

    • My condolences

    • +1

      Return if unopened?

  • +5

Going to buy one and stickytap it on my door make it like a SciFi door

  • +2

Wow why is this calculator keep dropping in price?
For this price, I think it is silly for every high school student to buy any other scientific calculator than this one.

    • +1

They are competing showing they won't be beaten

    • -2

Because it costs about 2c to build?

      • +4

Are you sure only 2c? May be you should buy one of these calculators to get your maths correct :P

        • http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/gadgets/a17381/ca… no seriously

          According to wikipedos:

By 1976 the cost of the cheapest four-function pocket calculator had dropped to a few dollars, about one 20th of the cost five years earlier

So $0.02c doesn't seem … completely ludicrous to me.

        • @Diji1: Nah. A few dollars in 1976 is now worth at least 10 times more. That means $20? God, this $8.97 must be sold below cost then. Plus you get a scientific calculator, not just some simple four-function calculator. I better rush to OW and buy all the stock now :P

Ahhh I remember those connector pens were all the rage back when I was at school in the 90s

The more of those you had, the cooler you were

    • +5

I made wrist gauntlets out of mine. Had enough to make a pair look like Predator wrist blades. Alas my imagination was far better then…

      • The memories…

  • i got the $30 model since the stuff on it MAY come in handy lol

    • Yah never know when you need that obscure function. Especially when working whether 10% more on a gift card is the same as 10% off :D

  • I swear when I was back in high school these were like $40… maybe my school was just straight up gypping us.

    • +1

They used to be even hundreds, normally are around 25-30 so this is a bargain.

    • yeah, deflation. How much were laptops back then?

      • I dunno, but my first crappy PC was $2000

  • +1

Haha time to update my calculator from Year 7! Thanks OP.

    • +1

12 year olds on ozbargain.. nice and good for you. ;D

      • +1

Haha what a strange comment. Year 7 was a long time ago…

        • +1

          oh xD

  • still no drop on the fx100 bugger. and is there any other store to buy gel pens besides OW? all their good stuff is like 6-10 bucks per pen

    • Here Pens from $1, you might have to click low price to high to see them :)
      http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/SearchDisplay?searchTerm=…

      • thats all expensive. should be about 2-3 bucks per pen i would have thought for all the good stuff like the Uni Vision Elite. weird that pens can cost up to 10 bucks each. and we're not even talking about the Lamys or metal cased stuff

        • So you don't like the $1 ones?

    • The Fx-100s were pretty low stock at my local OW while the Fx82s were way way overstocked. Might be why.

      • Nah it's simply because Big w beat them on price so OW Dropped it, then Target beat their price so they dropped further, they have to keep the lowest price to avoid the 20% off price beat for school list items :)

  • These are great calculators. I've been using the older model for almost 11 years now. This one is even better, pick one up if you can

    • Only problem is that the print on the keys always wear off ><

      • Really? Mine looks mint and I've had it for over a decade. Use it a fair bit too.
