    • It depends on the Uni and their IT department.
I had a Curtin email and it only lasted a month after i left, my RMIT one is still going strong though.

    • Mine from last year still works fine!

    • Spent 5 month studying at a uni 2 years ago before transferring to another uni and my .edu.au email still works!

    • I ditched UTAS years ago for a better university and my email account is still active with them. Even after they migrated to Office 365.

  • -1

Wow you have to enrol and actually study it properly. Can't be bothered, but cool find OP

  • Does it like MOOC?

  • Are the online versions of Office 365 the only ones that are free with edu.au emails?

    • Office365 subscriptions are all online, if you want offline just use pen and paper, there is no charge but you must BYOD.

    • Currently have Office 2016 for Mac downloaded and working with my UTAS ID. Had to reinstall my OS the other day and it activated fine using my UTAS email from the last time this deal was on.

Assume it'd be the same for Windows too. Just use this link.

  • Fitbit & the email address are tempting but im interested in that unit too. I know its listed as flexible - ie - 4-5 hours a week studying should be fine, however im wondering is there a time limit to finish the unit in at all?. Also can it be confirmed we get a "free lifetime .edu.au email" ? (how does op know its lifetime?)

    • I always assumed university emails never really expired.
I've had my UTAS one for almost a year now with full access, even though the course finished months ago. Still, a year is better than nothing.
      Here's hoping it keeps going!

      • They only kick you out of MyLO and let you access everything else. The IT staff are fairly incompetent as most logins are stored in plain text etc ;)

This course commences right after the 24 KFC nuggets deal ends. Strong coincidence.

I am actually interested in doing the unit & not to get the fitbit. Is anybody able to give me a clear yes or no answer in regards to, whether or not there is any fees inc HELP debt that will occur from enrolling in this unit?

    • +3

No fees. Just the cost of using the Internet.

      • Thank you.

  • Got to the end and where you click to read the declaration, it has "404 Not found."
UPDATE: Problem only with Firefox. Works in IE.

  • +2

Please don't do this for the fitbit. Consider the universities intentions for fee waiver and greater good.
Also, if you do not envisage that you will be able to commit 4-5 hours per week of online study time, you may not pass the unit.

  • Can someone tell me if you are eligible for the edu.au by just completing the complimentary units or do you have enroll in the whole course to get the edu.au benefit?

    • Just enrolling in the free course in 2015 gave me a Fitbit and an edu.au address which is still active.

      • Do we need to buy textbooks? o_O?

        That's my main concern.

        • I didn't actually do any of the course work I'm afraid.

        • @theStinge:

Did you fail the course then? (just curious)

        • +2

@Craze: Presumably. I didn't log in to check the result.

        • Bummer. ;-(

  • Is there a cutoff or when this offer expires?

  • I just logged into my student account and it's showing a debt for this supposedly free unit. Is anyone else seeing the same thing?

    Total Non-Deferrable Debt

    $0.00

    Total Unallocated Credits

    $0.00

    Total Deferrable Debt

    $1,002.60

    Total Balance

    $1,002.60

    • From the enrollment email:

      Fees

The Fees Team will apply the scholarship to your unit on or before the Unit census date. Until this is applied it will appear that you have an outstanding fee. Please check this after the unit census date and if it is still showing as outstanding please contact the Enrolments or the Fees Team.

      • I can't see an email stating this
Census date is 23 Mar, fee due date 9 Mar
Last years forum post said we had to submit a Commonwealth Assistance form
Log into eStudent > Commonwealth Assistance > Add New > Complete Form - Request for Commonwealth Support and HECS-HELP (aka eCAF)
Comments on page 1 say we get a HECS scholarship, which the eCAF is required.
Off to complete HECS & eCAF now.
HECS form states If you are the recipient of a scholarship or sponsorship, please select Full up-front payment of my student contribution amount as your Payment option.
Appears that the HECS form was the eCAF

        • IIRC the same thing happened to me when I signed up a year ago. You can contact them via email if you'd like them to confirm though.

        • There is a whole section on how to complete provided once the unit opened up

      • thanks mate.

    • Same

  • Just wondering if we get a student ID. When and how long would it be valid?

    • Yes you do but you'll need to follow the instructions and apply for one.
Basically you need to email them your photo ID and a passport photo from your student email account and request a student ID be sent to you

      • Email to who?

  • hope to get an answer from my follow classmates here, otherwise call uni on Monday.
    questions -
    1. do we have to sit for the exam (on w venue TBC)
    2. fail if not doing homework and exam. Would not like a fail on the transcript.
    3. truly interested and enrolled in 2 subjects listed, just want to confirm they are 100% fee, as signed for the HECS debt. do not seem to read anything during the enrolment says or mentions free.

    • +1

I've read all the information I can find.

      1) There are no exams, just quizzes and other activities
      2) I think provided that you commit to the course, there is no reason to fail
      3) I don't know about others, but the email received says that it will be listed as a debt until the scholarship is processed. It says to be able to do this, you must complete the eCAF form, which is an official application for a Commonwealth Assisted Place

      Any problems, certainly contact them.

      • Is there anything funky or weird that needs to be answered on the eCAF form? (im interested in doing the course properly — and trying to find out all info before committing).

        • can withdrawal before census date which is around end of March.

        • Tax File Number is pretty much it

      1. no exam (5 quizzes & an assignment)
      2. if quiz 1 not completed they may withdraw you anyway. But I guess a fail would be recorded if you <50%
      3. That's what it's saying. Haven't seen anything to the contrary. (Yes a fee is listed, but there is mention that it will be waived)
  • Well im enrolled - when does the new fitbit arrive? I enrolled when this was first posted weeks ago. do i need to do something. Ive logged in and looked around

    • Participants must remain in the course until after census date (March 23rd) to receive their FITBIT®

      • Must also complete the first Quiz (before the census date) also

      • Do Quiz 1 (10 questions in 20 minutes) and fill in the Commonwealth Assistance Form by census date.

        • And then you get a code to obtain your FitBit.
Hope you aren't meant to go to Dick Smith to get it….

        • @froodh:
Hmmm. Anyway, I assume it's a Flex? We're already enjoying the Fitbit challenge for those who already have one.

  • Come on guys read through the Unit Outline at the very least -

    https://mylo.utas.edu.au/content/enforced/140690-AW_CAA_16S1…

I've gone through all the Week 1 content - not hard…do a bit of reading, watch a few videos. It's pretty interesting stuff.

    • +1

Ugh, I hate referencing. I thought I'd finally gotten away from that. Although I'm planning on doing a Masters at some point, so I guess it's good to brush up on it again. Hopefully the reflective piece won't require it, or if it does, it will be minimal.

    • Where is the content? I've gone in and can't work out where anything is apart from the intro stuff that isn't actually related to it - Academic Honesty/Getting Started etc.

      • Actually, sorry, I've enrolled late into this one and I don't think it's processed yet. The other one I'm enrolled in seems not to have any content yet until tomorrow.

        • course starts today at 22nd.

      • Up the top left My Home > (choose ->) CXA004 Foundations of Tech for Healthy Living

        This is the main page.

There's a bar running along the button of University of Tas banner. Click on 'content'

That'll take you to Introduction: Week 1. Start at Staff Introduction and go through them all.

Only really going to help out those that are keen to actually complete the unit, or at least giving it a go. Not those looking for a free fitbit only….

Just saw your updated post - best of luck to all those giving this a go :)

        • +1

Yes, I've just realised, I thought I'd also enrolled in this one, but I hadn't until later than I should have. I'm not certain yet if they've accepted me. I'm also in the Foundations of Food and Nutrition. I'm definitely interested in the concept, I hope to learn something new.

    • agreed

  • Just enrolled. Better late than never. However form is submitted (says could take up to two weeks to process..ugh..) - is there another form that needs to be filled (i assume the rest will need to be filled in once application is processed etc).

  • +1

Gee..really worry I don't have time to ozbargain once the course starts.

    • Oh like a true Ozbargainer you will make time :D

  • Jut done the practice quiz and got a HD LOL~~~

    • +1

Good job. It's the real thing that counts. Seriously may be we should set up a ozb study group and discuss homework.

      • +1

They've got a FitBit group up and running, have you joined that?

        • Not yet. In post board discussion?
btw, can apply a card if study.

      • Great idea.

      • I'm in..

  • Guys…where is the Commonwealth Assistance Form?

    • It's when you log in to the eStudent portal from their homepage, then go to Commonwealth Assistance, you should be able to do it from there.

  • you can just go and click the pages then go back and click the next one to put a tick next to it "complete"

the quiz doesnt need to be finished til 23rd of March so plenty of time, then there is a 1000 word written thing to complete in May to finish the course

I got a Uni of Tasmania student ID card sent to me in the mail (had to email them passport photo and copy of my ID) so now I can get access to student everything prices too (not travel though, no hologram sticker for nsw)

    • OMG a 1000 word essay? thought was only quiz's? ;).

Thanks. I received my login details and going to confirm enrolment and fill out the ecaf thingie tonight.

I thought this was flexible study?. Are there x timeframe's to get y things done?

      Shame about the travel..

      • Yes and no - it's flexible within certain dates. We're entering week 3, but you can still be doing week 1 stuff. You also need to complete the essay by the date in May to finish the course as expected. You can do it during the times to suit your needs, but that doesn't mean to say it can stretch out for months past the expected timeline.

  • I enrolled but now I'm not able to give enough time to the course and I'll not be able to.:(

Does anybody know how to withdraw from the course?
I believe we can do it by the end of census date which is 23rd of March?

    Thanks guys.
