OzBargain Zeitgeist 2015: Year in Review, Favourite Moments, Predictions for 2016?

See OzBargain Zeitgeist 2015 : Top stores, deals and comments

We have compiled the stats for 2015.

graph

Things of interest:

The top 3 posters seem to make the frontpage close to half of the time.

  • TRENT86 posted 1007 deals , 493 made the front page. 48.9%
  • easternculture posted 457, 217 made the front page. 47.4%
  • Spackbace posted 312, 95 made the front page. 30.4%

However, then you have 2 other ends of the scale.

  • tightarse posted 815 deals, 772 of them made it to the front page. That's a 94.7% strike rate.
  • scotty posted 191, 47 made the front page. 24.6%

I only made 1 prediction from last year:

I think in 2015, Amazon is going to drop out of the top 5.

1 for 1! They finished 8th for the year. I guess it wouldn't be a stretch to predict that Amazon will drop out of the top 10.

    • A form of reddit gold will be implemented by OzB as a form of revenue raising
    • OzB will start their own cashback scheme to capitalise on everyone forgetting to use existing ones, or implement more referral linking
    • A lot more retailers will recognise OzB and offer group buys, membership discounts
    • An alcohol price tracker will appear, like PriceHipster; or Boozle will start highlighting price drops and index ALDI
    • An official OzB app will be released
    • OzB will be purchased by a large corporation
    • OzB will start their own cashback scheme to capitalise on everyone forgetting to use existing ones, or implement more referral linking

      Don't let scotty see this.

      Too much work.

An official OzB app will be released

Even less likely this year as Chrome can now notify you from the browser.

Good idea. I'm still holding out for a sushi price tracker…

My prediction is JV will start getting top comments. He's already getting too many positive votes.

Here's my prediction: Dick smith will no longer be the no 1 store.

Yeah I know, a very wild claim indeed XD

  • Seems like 'Most Deals Posted by New Users' includes 2016 as well. I only had around 70 deal posts in 2015.

Another great year for my favourite website.
The attractiveness of Amazon is directly linked to the exchange rate between the AU$ and the US$ - I can only hope that this will improve again.

I predict i will find myself in an argument with another member or members

After i start to win the argument, the loser will tattle to the mods and i will be subsequently banned for several weeks

Based upon 2015, this will happen several times

    • Shut up

      :P

      • Care to elaborate?

        • Umm

          Shuteth upeth?

          :P

        • @Spackbace: are you actually trying to start the said argument From my recent prophesy? I thought we were mates…why the sudden animosity?

        • @pointless comment:

          Joke missed?

The irony of you saying someone will pick a fight, and then I start one?

          sigh

          @Spackbace:

          joke missed

          wanna fight about it?

Only kidding mate, your obvious joke was obvious

Dick smith and dominoes will not infest this site like sewer vermin

Some great stuff in here neil, thanks!

My prediction: Front page vote requirement of 20 will be raised to 25.

    • I predict the opposite - down to 15 votes

front page fodder is getting harder to come by - dick smith is dead, Masters is moribund, COTD deals were killed by club catch, and TA doesnt seem to have the time to put up strange things from china that cost less than $1 now hes busy pushing Cash rewards…where are the front page deals gonna come from?

The basic formula is for the homepage to display about 2 days worth of deals. We tend to be hitting that but on some busy days it may only display 1.

    Very interesting reading.

I predict that Costco postings will increase due to the extra store openings this year around Australia.
