The Nexus One features a 3.7in AMOLED display, with a 800x480 resolution. The screen has a 100,000:1 contrast ratio and a response time of 1ms. It has an illuminated trackball which can emit different colors of light based on the type of notification being received. The phone has two microphones, one on the front and one on the back, to enable noise cancellation to reduce background noise during phone conversations. A standard 3.5 mm headphone jack is also provided.

The phone features a 1 GHz Qualcomm 8250 processor, 512 MB of RAM, a 4 GB microSD card, 512 MB of internal Flash storage, a 5MP auto-focus camera with LED flash and digital zoom, GPS receiver, light and proximity sensors, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and 802.11b/g/n Wifi capabilities. It provides hardware decoding for H.263, H.264 and MPEG-4 video, and is capable of playing MP3, AAC+, Ogg Vorbis, WAV, and MIDI audio, and displaying the JPEG, GIF, PNG, and BMP image formats. It has a standard micro USB port rather than the proprietary HTC connector, and the microSD card slot allows expansion up to 32 gigabytes of card storage. Applications can only be installed to the 512MB internal flash memory, of which 190MB are available for that purpose. During unveiling, it was mentioned that Google might eventually lift this restriction after addressing security issues.

The phone weighs 130 grams (4.6 oz), with a height of 119 millimetres (4.7 in), a width of 59.8 millimetres (2.35 in), and a depth of 11.5 millimetres (0.45 in). It is powered by a removable 1400 mAh battery, expected to last up to 290 hours on standby, 10 hours talk time, or 5 hours while browsing the internet.

  • expensive, cheaper to import it from usa. whirlpool forums has details

Australian warranty may make it easier if things go wrong… though I guess it depends on how much cheaper it is

      • about $100 cheaper if bought straight from google and have it shipped over here. But you have to deal with the warranty issue. Sending it back and forth will eventually end up costing more than you got it for.

Hmm.. Is it actually a 1 year Australian warranty? As it's not in sale in Australia, I would think that the warranty is based in US. So will 1saleaday take care of the shipping back and forth for the phone in case there is an issue?

        • good question. im interested in the answer as well..

        • It doesn't make much sense to me to pay an extra $100 or more, on the off-chance that it will save you $50 on a warranty claim. Having to claim warranty through a third party means it will take even longer, and more chance of something going badly. What if the intermediary closes shop?

This phone is US$529 from google, so about A$620-640 with forwarding to Oz.

    sigh, aussie tax

  • Google loves giving the shaft to people outside the US. I don't see why this offer isn't available to Australia. When they said Google Voice is US only, I understood. Maybe some legal thing or whatever. But seriously, I don't see why they can deliver to UK and Singapore as well but not Australia.

I'm tired of my HTC Dream. I rooted it, overclocked the CPU and even used Apps2SD on a Class 6 microSD card, but the phone's way beyond it's humble limits already. I want me a snapdragon android phone!

  • But as comments above say, cheaper imported. But also warranty issues. I'm so confused whether to get this phone imported and suffer when a problem comes up or wait for it to finally come to Australia for good. OR wait for HTC Bravo/Desire.

This phone will be avaliable in australia via google store soon. Negitive based on the fact you ccan get it cheaper..

    • When is "soon"?

      • I really wanna buy it!

      • Speculation is late April/Early May from VHA but nothing confirmed. I would expect the price to be far higher than what it's being sold for in the US, just like all other new phones.

    • -1

yeah when is soon? acutally I don't even care lol, I don't want this.

    • I've got my hands on the HTC Touch pro from singapore a good 10 months before it was even on the shelves of Telstra. Good luck waiting…. I'd rather import if I were you.

      • But is yours a NextG specification chip (UTMS850)?

Sometimes the delay for telsra getting phones is them needing to wait for a UTMS 850MHZ variant phone to be produced.

It's $900, which is alot more but has 12 months local warranty. You can get an additional 12 months warranty for an extra $60.

    • How is the warranty any different from 1saleaday? Any AU seller must provide a warranty, and any warranty claim on this phone will likely mean waiting for a round trip to the US.

There is no GST included in the mobicity price - they do a dodgy "we are an australian seller, but we are not"
to make you think they are local, but avoid paying GST or tax. The ATO really should come down on those type of operators.
It is an offshore company, shipping stock from offshore, but operated from Oz without an ABN.

  • you can preorder the HTC desire for around $600 shipped from Handtec on April 5th. That phone has got slightly better specs then the Nexus one. The 12 months local warranty is BS (all they covering is shipping fee back to the US) since Nexus one isn't released here yet.

  • Dearest Ozbargainers,

We were lucky enough to get our hands on the Google phone. This phone in the states is near impossible to get in quantity. We received many emails asking us if we had more stock. We put our ears to the ground and found stock at the best price we can get it wholesale. We are selling it $50 cheaper than we sold it last time. If its the savings$$$ your looking for then this may not be for you but many 1Saleaday customers have asked for this phone so we thought we would give Australians at least the opportunity for an easy purchase without going through the process of overseas ordering would be worth the sale.

Price is also higher due to the fact that we have GST in this country (which you can claim back).

For all those who purchased the new Google phone. Get ready to enjoy at least one of the coolest phones i have seen in a long time.

    Cheers,

    • peshmo, Can you comment on the warranty?

    • I see the bluefly site you linked is also an offshore, tax-minimisation operation.

How do you manage to provide a legitimate tax invoice and still stay competitive? :-)

      • We work hard to find the best deals possible for our customers.

Regarding the warranty. My supplier has given a 6 month warranty on all products that he supplies 1Saleaday as well as the Google warranty which is a worldwide warranty. Now being the fact that as of now there is no Google phone in Australia we have reason to believe* that within the next 4 - 6 months the Google phone will be released in Australia and the warranty will be serviced here within Australia.

*Our knowledge may not be 100% factual.

  • I have a HTC touch pro. While the phone itself i think is designed reasonabley ok. The actual operating system on it is complete garbage. I hope Google have done a much better job then "Windows mobile".

Im also interested to see if the GPS actually works like a proper GPS. Not like the piece of junk in the HTC Touch Pro…
