28 Bottles of Penfolds Wines & Vintec 30 Bottle Wine Fridge - $888 Delivered from Dan Murphy's

890

Was sent this in a Dan Murphy's email today:

"This bundle contains 28 bottles of wines in total.

This includes 12 bottles of Penfolds Bin 2 Shiraz Mourvèdre, 10 bottles of Penfolds Kalimna Bin 28 Shiraz, 6 bottles of Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz and a 30 bottle Vintec Cabinet. Excludes Cellar Release. Delivery offer only."

Worked out the wine value alone to be worth $797.20. I believe the fridge is a run out model which may be why the deal is available. The fridge was worth around $650 when available, so it's a pretty good deal if you're in the market for a fridge and some decent wine.

Also, don't forget Cashrewards for an extra 7% ($62.16) cash back.

Those puns are terrible, but i will eggcuse you both this one time.

I challenge you to not drink a bottle a week for 28 weeks

    • +6

I challenge you to not drink a bottle a week day for 28 days

      • +4

I won't need a wine fridge for that!

        • +14

You could film the hangover and call it "28 days later"

        • @theworks: Bravo! Love it!

        • +4

          @theworks: starring Amy Winehouse?

        • +3

Oh why is this year a leap year. Feb with 28days would be perfect!

Worked out the wine value alone to be worth $797.20.

    probably 'worth' about half that…

    • +1

whats your valuation based on? where can you pick up any of the included wine for ~$14 a pop?

        • jv not jh m8

        • +11

          Great point jv,
Thats why I have yet to purchase an BMW M3 for myself, I'd only pay 5k max.

You must be a hoot for retail staff when it comes to negotiating price…

          @forkus:

Thats why I have yet to purchase an BMW M3 for myself, I'd only pay 5k max.

Is that what it's 'worth' for you?

        • @forkus: only have to wait a few more years for that $5k M3

        • +1

I'd actually agree with you. Some of those bottles are good for a stew or killing plants, but not drinking. Just because it's penfolds doesn't mean they're all grange.

  • +1

28 bottles wine…..in a 30 bottle wine fridge. Hmmm, couple missing it seems.

Actially….picture shows 32 bottles in fridge.

  • What about glasses for the wine?

    • +3

Glasses are for Wimps, Straight from the bottle followed by a Cowboy.

  • AO were selling fridge for $467 but no longer available.

    http://www.appliancesonline.com.au/30-btls-vintec-wine-stora…

Looks like 2 year warranty on the fridge.

    • Yeah I have that $467 fridge bought from AO for $379 16 months ago during an eBay special. It's not the same one DM is offering but it has been good so far!

      • What is the cost of electricity of running an extra fridge like this ?

        • +1

1kw a day. If you ever turn on the ac during summer, you'd have used up more pow pow than this takes in a month

        • Yeah it's bugger all. Admittedly I have solar panels but if you leave it on 18 degree like I do, it's not doing much and just keeping the temp consistent.

  • Great find! Thanks OP.

  • Damn this is very tempting, I had planned on waiting till the mid year vintec promo Dan´s normally runs but the volume and value on wine seems so much better on this deal.

    • depends if you like/want the wine :)

      • +1

I'm a sucker for big SA Shiraz so that's a yes.

        • +1

          Pulled the trigger.

  • -4

Wait a sec, are we keeping Shiraz in the fridge now?

    • Well, in a 12-20 degree cooler to offset those damaging 40 degree days. Not exactly a 3~ degree fridge. I keep mine on 18.

    • +1

This is a cellar fridge not a fridge….. Why are you even here? Go hunt down your bourbon and coke bargains and leave us d'yquem sipping fools on our lonesome. Maybe I'll even let you eat cake.

      • +2

It's a trap! The cake is a lie!

    • +5

Some anonymous, rando answer with no reason why?!? Sounds legit.

Yes, red wine should be at 'room temperature', but this was derived from cellars which were actually a lot cooler than 24C. Serving temp is around 15C for a lighter red (pinot) and 18C for a heavier red.

Rule of thumb is, whites removed from fridge 30 mins before drinking. Reds go into the fridge 30 mins before drinking. Also served direct from a wine fridge stored at 15-18C.

    • +4

that is the most random contextually irrelevant link i've ever seen on ozb

  • Apparently 13 degrees is the go.

    • +4

I'm sorry but you are gravely mistaken. It's 12.8

      • +1

        I thought it was 12.75?

  • bought one for my dad, thanks alot

    • +3

Nice son, I wish mine would do that but it may be illegal as he's only 12 ;-)

  • I don't need it, but I want it!

    I shouldn't…

  • Is the wine fridge any good?

    • +11

      Only when it's full.

    • Have been reading reviews online and people seem to claim the fridge likely to only last for 3 years or so

    • You can use it as can drink cooler, it works pretty well.

    • I've had a Vintec 30 for over a year and it works well. Consumes about 100kWh per year running at 12C. The only thing I dislike about it is the intense smell of volatile plastics inside. I aired mine out for two days after receiving it, but that didn't really help. Wine is sealed anyway (even with a cork) so the plastic smell won't get inside the bottles.

    • I doubt anyone from here would actually pay $650 for that fridge.

  • +4

Hmmm $888 and chinese new years coming up, clever marketing.

    • +1

Wanna go halves for $444 ???

      • +3

Fridge may not work well after being halved..

      • No thanks 4 sounds like death in Cantonese…

  • has anyone actually ordered?

i'm trying to check out but at the very last stage after clicking the payment button (after entering ccard details or paypal) it just bounces back to the main dan murphy's site.

    edit -

not sure if it matters, but i'm trying to do a click and collect on the wine and a delivery for the wine cabinet.

    • I suspect because the order is delivery only that its giving you grief.

    • Had the same issue. I was trying to click and collect for the wines, but you actually need to select delivery for everything

    • Same, I tried all methods all delivered, C&C wines, fridge delivered, all C&C, it all bounces back to main page after paying. :( I hope I didn't buy three lots.

      • yeah this was happening for me but it didn't show the orders in my order history.

not sure if my credit card was charged 3 times.

  • I have but its delivered only

  • +1

28 bottles of wine in the fridge, 28 bottles of wine…

  • It's an extra $36 for delivery to Tasmania for the wine part :(

  • This is insanely good value.

Too bad I left Red Wine a few years ago and now only stick to my Whiskey….

  • I already have ~30 bottles of red at home.. was looking for buy a cooler for them.. but if I get this, I wont have any room to store my existing wine (yes, drinking it would help solve my problem).

I could buy this and then sell the new wine (or keep the new wine, and sell the old wine) but Im hopeless at getting around to putting stuff on ebay/gumtree.

    • +2

let me know if you need someone 2 help you drink them all.

      • Hah no I think I will get around to it. Besides, Melbs is a long way from the Gold Coast.

I am so conflicted… pay $888 for a 30 bottle fridge (with wine) or save $240 and pay $648 for a larger 58-bottle fridge (no wine) with longer warranty from Good Guys.

        Decisions!

    • Sell me those wines at ozbargain prices. Take $88 for 30 bottles?

      • bad deal for you if he has 28 bottles of this wine

        • Only thing Bowler's Run is good for is bowling a maiden over

  • Thanks OP purchased

  • Thats was fast mine shipped for delivery..

  • +2

I hope the quality of these have improved. I have two (admittedly slightly older versions) also got via separate Penfolds deals, and although they were great when they were working one died after two years and the other nearly made it to three. Outside the warranty period though. With mine there was a common issue with the coolant leaking, and repairs cost more than the fridge was worth and involved replacing the aluminium coil with a copper unit to make future repairs simpler.

A big issue I had was when the first one failed it was a while before I discovered the issue and it had actually started to HEAT the wine. Not that impressed.

So rule of thumb is, if you were going to buy the wine anyhow and the fridge works out as free then great. I would hesitate to pay more than that though. Mine are now basically wine racks with doors……

    • +1

I too have this fridge, bought it brand new around 2010 from some lady who worked at a liquor store in a country town for $250 (had to drive 2-3 hours to pick it up), she probably got it for free after it sat in her shop for too long without anyone making a claim for it. Anyway, it stopped working about 2 years ago and was making a ticking noise. Called Vintec and the technician said it most likely due to a broken relay, gave them the model and serial numbers, they sent me the part for $55 inc delivery, I then paid $70 for a local fridge repairer to put it in and it was all good again.

      • Hmmm…. don't recall hearing any ticking but I recently found a decent fridge repair bloke locally, so maybe I might let him have a look at mine to see what he thinks. Thanks.

  • This should save the new NSW government suppliers corruption money..

  • Dranking red wine can protect heart and vessel, beauty care, and antioxidant. Thank you for this great deal!

    • Past and present tense as one :)

      • +2

I think someone decided to open a few bottles without letting them age…. ;-)

Cashrewards for wine at dan murphy's has increased to 8%, cash back now $71.04.
    Op may need to revise

    • +1

      $69.64 actually

  • Has anyone used Cashrewards to buy this deal? Can you confirm the amount of cash back?

    • See my post above

      • Thanks Stucuts, saw above post but was not sure if it was a calculated value or an actual cashrewards confirmed amount.

  • Any wine experts out there. Received my wines today. Instead of the bin 2 2012 Mourvèdre they shipped the bin 2 2013 mataro. Any difference in value or quality. Difficult to get proper pricing on the mataro. Apparently Mourvèdre and mataro are the same.

    • They shipped me the 2013 also.

    • +1

      Yes Mataro/Mourvedre are the same.

I opened a bottle and it's a pretty good wine - we drank it pretty quickly but the last half glass after an hour or so really opened up. So I'd suggest letting it decant for an hour or so and then serve it around 16C.

Halliday rates the 2013 higher than the 2012 anyway (92 points vs 90 points)

      • Thanks for the reply Ruski23.
Couldn't really be bothered arguing the point with dan murphy's even though bottles are asterisked on order to say they cannot guarantee the year.
        Will try your suggestion.

  • Bit the bullet and finally bought this. Not sure how CashRewards was calculated, but it came through as $60.76 only.

  • Got an email at 9pm Saturday night saying my wine fridge order has been updated. Logged in to My Dan Murphy's and it says that it has been delivered! On a weekend? Hope it's not sitting on the street outside my office!

    • yep i also got the delivery status when i checked but i definitely haven't received anything.

  • My fridge has just been delivered.

  • Still waiting on fridge delivery after 2 weeks of the delivered email…

    • Huh… your neighbours dont have a shiny new wine fridge do they ? :D

      • Arrived yesterday…

        • Nice, glad it turned up.
Im still waiting for my 58-bottle fridge I ordered about a week after this deal came on.

  • Did anyone else receive the v30sgme and not the V30sgmem? What's the difference if any?
