Intel Core M 5Y31 (0.90GHz)<- make me cry

    • +1

Yeah.. it seems to perform lower than the i-Range (i5 mobile range from many generations ago out-benchmarks this CPU).. Kind of disappointing but for some people this is plenty for normal use (web browsing, emails etc).

      • +1

It may have lower performance but don't forget TDP of 4.5W compared to, for example, 15W for i5 4200U as in this comparable deal:
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/232687

(not that this particular model has a great battery life, it seems to be around 5-6h)

        • is the LG a better value [and cheaper] laptop then? newbie here

    • +1

If you look up benchmarks it actually performs pretty close to i3s. Turbo Boost goes up to 2.4Ghz http://ark.intel.com/products/84666/Intel-Core-M-5Y31-Proces…

Looked good resolution but not cpu

  • 900Mhz was my first PC

    • +1

      hahahahaha 30x faster than mine…

      • 188x faster than mine. It was 4.77Mhz

        • +1

          8086? :)

    • 1Mhz was mine..

    • I had an abacus…

  • How does the warranty works considering this is from Amazon US?

    • Considering it's not possible to buy Samsung laptop's anywhere in Australia I doubt it would be covered by global warranty.

    • International samsung warranty, otherwise sending back to US, either way both will be at your cost to send it.

      • Pass. Samsung computer have gone off the radar last couple of years.

  • the cpu lets down the screen …… with a 5th gen i5 this would have been a sweet machine.

    • like this one >>> ATIV

      • Had this, was an awesome machine, but a bit old now..

Then it wouldn't be as thin, as light, or as quiet.

One a few posts back is better. This screen has more pixels, though that's (imo) something which is a negative on a screen that small. You're fitting 1.5 standard desktops (~30inches worth for desktop users, ~24 for laptop uses) on a 12.2inch screen. It's far too small for that many pixels.

Other than that, it's just a slow processor with a decent SSD.

Still lots of peoples misunderstanding advertised gigahertz when considering CPU speed, CPU gigahertz has basic speed which is advertised speed, and also has max(turbo) speed, the maximum performance is based on max speed. My M-5Y71 has same max 2.9ghz as my another i5-4300U laptop, as performance is same in my daily work. Core M is intended for long last run time plus ultra quiet to zero noise system, as long as the cooling is adequate, it should performs near same as U series CPU.

    • Just guessing but I would reckon clock for clock the i series would toast the m.

      • M5Y71 is Broadwell and 4300U is Haswell so I'd expect the M to have better performance clock for clock

Great price! Considering this competing with the MacBook at double the price. Great for basic stuff would be good alternative for Ma and pa laptop or student laptop. Rated battery life I found with my Samsung laptop is about 20% and less than expected. Those battery times are for minimal/standby activities.

    Mostly misleading comments here.

Core M processors are designed for tablets and highly portable < 1kg hybrids or laptops. They consume far less energy and generate less heat than i series processors - they don't need a physical fan.

If you don't want the extra portability this deal isn't for you. Comparisons with i3 iare meaningless.

So is the comment about the resolution. This is the same resolution as the MacBook Pro 13 which is awesome. The desktop is scaled everything is not going to be super tiny - I can't believe someone made that comment.

The price is great but remember this is an end of life product. Laptops based on the next generation sky lake are just starting to appear. Better performance beaters life and way better graphics performance.

  • does not look an ultrabook to me

    • +1

Just wondering, in your opinion, what should an Ultrabook look like then?

      • Phrased poorly, but technically it's not an ultrabook.

        • Could be currently correct, not fully up to date with the technical boundaries that Intel has put on this classification, seems to change over time. Most people would consider a M/I series CPU, thin/light, SSD, 5 hrs+ battery life etc to roughly be categorised as an Ultrabook I think.

      • i5-i7 at least 2500 Ghz , 250 SSD 4-8GB ram , super thin laptop

        • 2500 Ghz

        • Certainly does not need to be i5/i7 or 250 GB SSD, nor 8GB Ram and SUPER thin for the average Ultrabook user or classification. They might be your personal specs on your wishlist, but not always necessary for the average user. Can't fit a i7 even i7U in a superthin chassis without overheating and throttling back speed. Also not so long battery runtime for the i5U?i7U compared to this. Heck, it weighs under 1Kg. This model would suit a lot of users out there for the price currently.

        • @Brouw3r: 2500Ghz :A portable heater or an artificial sun

  • Is the ram and/or ssd soldered to the mb inside this ?

  • Also think deal is done …

    Items: USD 629.00
    Shipping & handling: USD 15.90

    • Seems to be back and this time U$570.44 for the laptop and U$15.90 for shipping.

  • I don't know much about laptops. I need laptop for uni, do u think this laptop will be good for it????
