I dont see anything about the Digital pass in the article posted.
The fantasy league is going live tomorrow, when the same NRL one did they gave away free passes for that.
This is why I posted in forums and not deals because its only speculation on my part

Lame - website has been updated. The free subscription will only been an extended trial until 26th April 2016.
The first 5,000 league commissioners to create and complete their AFL Fantasy Classic or Elite league by 23:59 (AEDT) on February 28, 2016 will receive an extended free trial of AFL Live Pass ending April 26, that commences when the AFL Live Voucher is activated. If the user does not cancel the subscription prior to the 26th April, it will automatically roll on to a paid weekly subscription charging the user at $4.99 a week thereafter. The extended free trial of AFL Live Pass is valued at $24.95 (including GST).

Yeah it's a bit weak this year but I guess it's still a freebie. I'm guessing they're hoping to nab a few additional subscribers when they forget to cancel April 26. I don't think I'll bother this year as I didn't compete in the Fantasy stuff anyway. Bonus for you if you're creating one anyway.
