    IS this a 9.5mm drive inside?

  • +3

    Should also come with 200GB cloud storage with OneDrive for 2 years (must activate by June 30, 2017.)

  • Would this fit a ps3?

    • -3

      It is an external drive. It would fit on, not in.
      This —————————-> http://www.wikihow.com/Add-an-External-Hard-Drive-to-a-PlayS…
      it will do.

      • +5

        vezkambo meant could this be pulled apart and installed within a ps3.

        • -2

          Fair enough - I was thinking a bare drive would be cheaper for that, so anyone would be asking after an add-on - but that would be logic, not economics.. :-/

          @terrys:
          Find me a 1TB 2.5" bare drive for less than $65. Portable drives are generally cheaper than bare drives.

          @Max Power:
          This week, or any time over the last couple of decades? I love assurances - they are like standards, there's a lot to choose from.

        • @terrys:
          You've already made assumptions about purpose and price, yet the requirement for current prices eludes you.

        • @Max Power: And you get the parts to use it externally if needed.

        • -5

          @Max Power: "You've already made assumptions"

          He asked if it would fit. I stated how it would. The last time I wished for an external drive, it was cheaper to buy a bare drive and a case. At my age, I don't particularly rely on assumptions, but yours regarding my interest in your comment are amusing.
          Thanks for the giggle.

          @terrys:
          People have been harvesting these drives for years. Some retail USB external drives have been cheaper than bare drives for quite some time now, particularly when external drives come on special. Internal drives rarely see significant discounts.

    • Possibly, as the entire casing is 12.1mm thick and I don't think there is a HDD thickness between 9.5mm or 12 so it should be a 9.5mm drive.

    • +3

      According to Amazon reviews, it is removable from its case and fits inside a PS4. So probably a ps3 also.

  • OOS!!! for online orders but checked the store by store and most stores has them. sorry

  • Anyone know if these use the standard Micro USB cables or some proprietary bs?

    • Not micro, but comes with a standard USB3 cable

      • So some weird proprietary connection then? Like the WD passport drives?

        • Not sure. Why does it matter what plug is on the drive?

        • +6

          @Spackbace: Im a travel photographer and prefer to travel light with just the cables I need. More cables = more hassle. Also if I leave it behind somewhere by accident it could be a nightmare trying to find a new one, where as everyone sells standard Micro USB cables.

        • @SkMed: I think most, if not all, of the usb3 drives should take usb2 cables, they just transfer slower.

          The proprietary cable you are talking about is the USB3 cable. You can still plug your usb2 cable into that WD drive, just use half the port.

        • @SkMed: its most likely a standard usb 3 micro usb. MSY is the only place i know of that actually sells these cables

        • Isn't it the very standard ugly USB3 Micro-B plug that Passports take? You can use USB2 Micro-B with it as well. USB2 Micro-B is the one through which you charge your smartphone.

        • @omygodde: should, but in my experience it doesn't work

        • @Apple96: Yeah? I haven't tried it myself.
          USB3 ports might be picky about USB2 cables. Some USB2 cables are not the best quality.

        • @Apple96:

          Can't say I've had any trouble using USB2 Micro cables with USB3 Micro ports.

          Maybe wasn't getting enough power through your cable.

          Handling fee(Delivery Order Only): $1.30

        • @StewBalls: I was more or less expecting

          (CSS Fee): $1.30

  • seagate.
    that's why it's cheap.

  • Is a 2TB version for $115 a good deal as well?

    http://www.msy.com.au/nswonline/pc-components/16428--seagate…

    • Just be aware that ones for Mac

      • +1

        It's the 2TB version of the 1 I posted. It's Mac Compatible, not "for Mac". It runs on both

        • Yeah, moreover it's just a matter of how the file system is formatted, the device would be always the same for different platfroms. All the debates about whether it's ok for PS are about physical thickness pf the bare disk inside a USB3 case.

          So, I guess 2tb for $115 is a decent one?

      • For Mac literally mean it comes pre-formatted as HFS (for the extra Apple tax on the price) and the bundled backup software are for Mac

        • +1

          I never buy "for Mac" hard drives as you can easily reformat any drive for use in a Mac - therefore I would think any USB based drive is Mac compatible? Or am I doing it wrong? The bundled software is generally worthless also IMHO, therefore absolutely no need to pay the Apple tax on USB drives!

        • @8anddrank: Right.

        • @8anddrank:

          Except that whole comment doesn't matter as this is the cheapest portable 1TB on the market currently, for Mac or not.

        • @Spackbace: Right. Which is why Mac owners should buy it. Even though it does not say "For Mac" on the box. Kind of the point I was trying to make….
