  • Their burgers are way overpriced…

    • JV, I don't understand your hostility towards this business?

Overpriced in what way? Their standards burgers around less than $15 which in comparison to other "premium" burger stores is pretty much on par with others.

Every time someone has questioned why they are expensive you keep bringing up their challenge menu. No one is forcing you to pay for the challenge. It's a challenge for a reason, if you lose they make more, if you win, it becomes very cheap for you. IMO I would've thought you as a true ozbargainer would have figured this out.

Your comments below about your local fish and chip store selling A burger with the low is irrelevant and extremely flawed. That's like comparing McDonalds and saying a cheeseburger will cost $3.95. Therefore your fish and chip store is now WAYYYY overpriced. See my logic?

I would gladly pay the $5 more to get a very satisfying burger over a low-quality supermarket bun with a flavorless patty and sauce which they heavily rely on for the only source of flavor.

If you don't understand the product I suggest you do not comment.

      • I don't understand your hostility towards this business?

mainly due to the B-Sh1t claims by the Rep…

I would gladly pay the $5 more to get a very satisfying burger

have you eaten there ? https://goo.gl/DJgfOC

your local fish and chip store selling A burger with the low is irrelevant and extremely flawed

If you actually read my comment, you will see I was comparing the burger to the ones at Maccas replying to the comment from the OP. Saying that, I wouldn't call the burgers at this store 'gourmet'.

If you follow my posts, you'd realise that I live in the area and am quite familiar with JDs'.

        • jesus the place looks like a dump… :D
located next to a dog groomers and an empty shopfront. great locale and dont get me started on the inconsistent signage & branding…
pretty average for a place charging premium prices for the best burgers & chips of 2016!

        • @JV I have eaten there, both when they were in Kew and now in Mont Albert.

The photo looks like it was taken during their closing hours and to be fair, it wasn't decorated as well as others.

Since moving to Mont Albert their store is significantly better than before.

Either way, the food there is fantastic and the range is bigger than many others.

What makes you think they aren't gourmet? Do you believe your fish and chip shop burgers are "gourmet"?

        • @fattyman:
serving up 16 burger patties in a gaudy crass & disgusting display of gluttony as 'an eating challenge' is gourmet…???
          HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA

Probably why Jd's charge so much for their burgers…

Maybe spend less on marketing crap, and give customers better value for money…

        • -7

we only use social media, and have never paid for marketing.

our rep is through word of mouth, and reviews, and blogs from the best of melbournes bloggers.

surely not the likes of you. stick to maccas mate. oh wait, then youd be complaining about telling them to spend less money on marketing crap, and giving better value for money too? haha

        • @bluejanuary14:

Yeah, I'd suggest you go do a PR course, or leave the OzBargain account to someone that knows how to encourage new business…

so much negativity, it always you & JV. makes ozbargain a sad place for other bargainers trying to get a discount on premium products.

actually, its lying scumbags who make this site worse. specially lying dodgy reps trying to push their bullshit and lies.

rep seems dodgy, claims of "best" from apparent paid advertising sites does little to alleviate such concerns. i think rep needs to quit with the lying and ad hominems?

2 different suburbs, 2 different stores… Now lets look at the reviews:

JDs Burgers in Kew is a delightful burger joint that offers unique Asian fusion flavours and is one of the best burger houses in Melbourne. These are juicy melt in your mouth burgers with much thought (and presumably testing) put into the various burgers. Word about JDs has spread in the burger world and an invited visit by The World Loves Melbourne didn't disappoint. We couldn't get over just how many burgers are on offer here - something like 15 fusion burgers. Just a hop skip and jump off the Eastern Freeway in the main strip of Kew this place is a winner.

I get great burgers at my local fish & chip shop thanks…

now i can see why you think a $13 burger is too expensive for you. lol enjoy your fish and chips mate, clearly different markets buddy.

        • +1

Out of interest JV, what does your local charge?

Also, do they use those extremely thin, frozen patties that taste like home brand sausages?

I used to like Fish and Chips shop hamburgers 10 years ago, but find now that they all use such cheap meat, they are virtually inedible. All the ones near me do that, and charge $6 or $6.50 for a burger with the lot. Would rather pay more but get some decent meat

        • +1

          @James1976:

$8.50 with the lot, $5.50 plain

          They make their own patties.

        • @jv:

You are lucky to have a good one near you. There was a decent one a few suburbs away from me that had good patties and charged about $9, but they closed down.

        • @James1976:

You are lucky to have a good one near you.

Well there's an opportunity for you then…

          James' Burgers…..

        • @jv:

The hours required would not suit me. ;)

I actually have 1 decent Fish and Chip shop near me, everything on their menu is great, except they use the sh***y frozen patties in their burgers.

  • First up, I don't think it's fair to go claiming that the store's burgers cost between $29-99. I just had a quick look at the website and it seems prices for normal burgers are $13-14 which seems reasonable if the quality is decent.

However, I'm not terribly impressed by the rep's attitude. There's no need to go insulting members when they could have simply corrected the record. I probably won't be rushing there in a hurry even though it's only 10 minutes down the road.

    • +1

Second this. Prices are fair. Every new joints using brioche bun are charging around this price haha

but you can price your burger at $2, I still won't spend my money due to OP's attitude. You did a good job at alienating your ( current and potential) customers. this is coming from a person who has his fair share of shitty burgers and more upmarket burgers from the likes of Huxtaburger, Merrywell, Rockpool and various burgers joints in Fitzroy and Collingwood.

  • +2

A free coke with an overpriced burger is not a bargain.

Also do we really need a post for any time your local take away joint offers a free drink?

    • Arent Grill'd prices similar?

I guess if you're going to eat there anyway, 10% is better than nothing.

  • +3

…surely not the likes of you. stick to maccas mate

…we use premium imported products of the best quality

…now i can see why you think a $13 burger is too expensive for you

welcome to burger elitism….what a wank.

& ~15 bucks for an 'asian fusion' burger…? good luck

    • +1

      good luck

dont underestimate the stupidity of your average hipster…… but trying to claim this as an OzB worthy "bargain" is reasonably redundant
