How can I promote my FB business page?

I have recently set up a fb business page. So far it only has 1 like and I'd like to look at ways of promoting it to get more views and hopefully more business.

I don't want my fb friends to know about the business so I don't want to invite people on my fb to like it.

Any ideas or tips?

Cheers

  • Is it a local business or would you be marketing to overseas?

I poured $100 into Facebook ads over a 2 day period for mine and received 0 likes or phone calls lol.

    • Damn that sucks haha

Its targeted towards Australian students in any state or territory

  • What genre is it related to? Adult?

    • Tutoring

      • May i ask why you don't want your friends to know about it?

They might like the page, then someone that is actually in need of it may see it in their feed.

  • Facebook Ads, lots of free how to guides available via Google.

Drop me a PM if you need advice, I do it for a living.

    • Awesome I'll PM you!

  • Start by putting a link in OP

  • Do you have a business website and if so does it get much traffic? You could look at Facebook re-marketing which can build likes quickly. Get in touch if I can be of assistance.

    • I do have a website but I only just recently built it so it has no traffic really. I'll PM you thanks

  • Don't buy likes, officially or unofficially.

IMO you need to engage real customers - not even us.

Currently using Facebook ads and disagree with the video, he's using Facebook wrong. You don't advertise with Facebook to get 'likes' you advertise Facebook to legitimise your existing website/activity. If someone google searches your business they will see your website and then your Facebook page, seeing years of blog like posts and material builds trusts to someone who's comparing your services to a competitor.

Having said that, I do agree that you get weird people liking your page, I can see visitors from India, Jordan etc who I've never engaged with however 78% of my likes are from Australia so he must be using Facebook wrong.

  • I use FB to advertise my band. Early on we made the mistake of promoting the page generally with the aim to get more likes, rather than a specific targeted post. We had the same situation as described in the video linked above, a heap of fake likes that adversely affected our organic reach.

However, since learning that lesson we instead promote specific posts, for example announcing the release of a new song or a headline gig, targeting fans of our page and their friends. This strategy is far more effective, and we get to actually engage with fans of our band.

Applied to the question at hand, if I wanted to promote my business page, I would first let my FB friends know that I have a new business up, and ask if they could like it. This is so newcomers don't think my page is dodgy/fake/amateur when they see only 8 likes.

After this point I would either:

    (a) Create a picture with a clear message. Maybe something like "Need some help?" on a pic of a student with their head buried in a book; or
    (b)Create a video to the same effect, hopefully something amusing;

and then I would post it. I would then boost that post specificially targeting:

    (a) people who live in my area; (assuming you are not travelling far to tutor) and
    (b) are aged between 18-25 (assuming you are talking about college students).

This "should" show up in college students' news feeds, and you may gain some interest.

That's how I'd approach it, but I'm really interested in any opinions gaz3342 puts forward.

  • What do you hope to achieve by having more likes on your Facebook page? You obviously hope to drum up business, but will a Facebook page really help?

It's hard to know what to suggest as "tutoring" could mean anything.

in a small business "likes" = how many friends you have that are willing to press like.
