Will they have grafitti remover on sale next week ?

    • +2

Thought the same… every vandal has been waiting for this bargain.

      • +6

Don't think they are among us Ozbargainers. $1.99 is too much to waste.

        • Thumbs up :-)

        • @ hluu0111

Depends what they hid on the car.

      • +6

Oh how cute, you think vandals pay for things!!

    • depends how many times i need to "practice" my new tag, I'm a bit of a perfectionist you know… ;)

  • Not recommended for automotive use

    Lol

Just for 13 year old drug addicts and graffiti vandals then, good to know

      Enamel verses acrylic.

    • +1

reminds me of this time this guy painted his car with house paint.. not a good look i must say..

  • Sprayed my pergola frame with these (steel), turned out great.

    • Few questions for you: what colour, how long ago, and how many cans did you use? Not that it really matters at $2 a pop, just curious, but this is OzBargain!

      • +3

Brunswick green, it's a little greener than I'd have liked but it looks okay.

4 months only, looks good so far and doesn't scratch too easily. I think I went through 10 cans colour 2 primer to do 2 coats. The primer was a really light coat. The pergola is 7m x 5m or so. I painted 4 posts and all the purlins / beams.

  • Thanks TA. I usually pick some up when they're 4 for $10, this is awesome :)

  • My Coaster wheels thank you - silver. Never cheaper than this that I've seen. Thanks OP.

    • how does silver look compared to chrome?

      • how does silver look compared to chrome?

They look completely different. Chrome is metallic and shiny. Silver paint is grey coloured paint, sometimes with a bit of metalflake.

        • actually i have used this brand's chrome paint and it does not make it reflective ie chrome look at all

        • @tyler.durden:

Of course not. Spray paint is NOTHING like Chrome.

        • @llama:

yeah i was disappointed..Thought it would look chrome.

          It look more like silver..

so i am wondering how would silver look.

          ===

There are some chrome paint that gives a better chrome reflection.
          This paint did not.

        • @tyler.durden:

There are some chrome paint that gives a better chrome reflection

And there are some fat chicks that look like supermodels…. when you are looking through the bottom of a schooner of beer at 5 minutes until closing time.

If you want chrome, then you need to use a different coating than paint. Much cheaper and easier to plate things that attempt to fake it with paint.

        • @llama:

While I agree, can't substitute chrome with paint. Chroming is bloody expensive as far as I know.

        • @knk:

yeap, plus chroming places are not easy to find compared to just spray painting
and they are probably expensive as you said

        • +1

          @llama:

there are fat chicks who are supermodels.

they are known as plus size models.

        • @tyler.durden:

And obesity should not be glorified.

        • @tyler.durden:

          Yeah chroming is VERY expensive.

I need a few pieces re-chromed on an old car of mine and I think I'll be vinyl wrapping them to save the coin.

        • @tyler.durden:

LOL… I know there's feeders out there who like 'em, so good on you for the encouragement :-)

        • @llama:

          Are you a fat chick?
          Or like one?

Fat chicks will go the extra mile to please than a thin hot one. :)

      • I'm fairly sure I always use silver, not chrome for rims. Don't remember ever having chrome spraypaint.

        • yeah i wanted chrome my rims, but it does not look all that chrome

      • Personally used both, could hardly tell a difference between the "Chrome" and "Silver".

  • +1

im building some speaker boxes for the shed, this'll do to paint them

  • Great needed some touch up paint. Thanks.

  • Can these be use on plastic, eg: plastic model? I just started a new hobby but I don't know much about plastic paints. Tamiya spray paint cost like $25!

    • +1

It's pretty cheap paint, but it does the job. If it's a smooth surface, and you're using a glossy paint, it won't stick well. The matte and metallic paints stick better, but you're going to either sand the surface, or more than likely prime it.

So, if you're going to use these paints - buy some primer as well. If the Duplicolour ones are ever on special, they're really good quality paints - the automotive ones.

      • It's not an important model that I'm going to paint, it's just an accesories for 1/12 scale figure. So I'm not really fussy on finishes hence I'm looking for cheap stuff. I'd tried using a "chrome/silver" pen, it didn't look good.

        http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?gcode=TOY-RBT-3893&p…

I see SCA also sells Export spray paint primer. I might try this first.

        • +2

The export spray paint primer isn't actual real primer. It's just called primer grey. So don't get that.

These aren't the best for modelling. But they certainly still work reasonably well. I have painted some small parts of a Gundam, and the details look in really good shape.

I would probably actually skip the primer, as it will add thickness to the pieces, and potentially fill in the details as mentioned by this other guy. I'm quite sure the metallic paints will stick quite well, but make sure you be patient and apply only thin coats, from a reasonable distance away. This is assuming the plastic is somewhat similar to what the Gundam's are made of. However, this was done with the better quality Duplicolor paints - so I'll test out some Gundam parts with some cheapo Export branded paints I have here.

This other guy does bring up very valid points which is all true, but I feel like you don't want to spend too much money, as it's not too important since it's just accessories as you mentioned. So any bad finish won't be that noticeable anyway, since the surface areas are quite small.

I'll get back to you soon :)

    • +2

Can these be use on plastic, eg: plastic model?

      No, they aren't really suitable.

Tamiya spray paint cost like $25!

And the model cost you how much?

I just started a new hobby but I don't know much about plastic paints

Plastic paints are designed for plastic. This deal is not for plastic paint.

      • Pretty cheap model accesories, not a Gundam mech or anything like that. See above link. Guns, swords, etc.

Suck this is not for plastic then. Might end up at looking at Bunning again. Waiting them to restock a "Rust-O-leum" (?) brand. The guy said its for plastic, straight spray without primer needed.

        • +2

Stop being a cheapskate, and buy the proper product for the job.

What's the point of modelling if your models look like crap?

You need a very fine nozzle for that kind of model. Very thin coats, and a very opaque paint formula.

Using SCA, Rustoleum or whatever pressure pack spray is totally the wrong thing, as they are designed for spraying large surfaces.

The droplets size and paint consistency is completely wrong to paint those accessories. The paint will fill all the fine details.

The guy said its for plastic, straight spray without primer needed.

You are crazy to trust the word of somebody who works at Bunnings. Think about it… what would THEY know? You should get your advice from the modelling community - they'll know the best value paint for use on models.

I have no idea what's best for modelling, but I do know quite a lot about spray enamels. They are not designed for getting a good finish, that's why they cost $2 per can.

        • +1

          @llama:

          You are right. I guess there is no short cut for me. ^_^;

Thanks. I will do more research on some model forums. Most likely I would end up buying a Tamiya branded spray paint.

          Stop being a cheapskate

          Mods ban thus user.

        • +1

          @TheOneWhoKnocks:

          HAHAHAHA.

What I was trying to point out is that the difference in cost is quite miniscule. Despite the cans being $2 vs $25, the amount of paint required per model is probably only 1/200th of a can.

So, it's important to consider the saving of (say) 11c in paint per model compared to wrecking the appearance of a $10 item. Multiply that by an army-worth of figures, and that's a hell of a lot of poor value to me.

And everyone who looks at them will know you cheapo'd out. It's kind of like how the cheap cost of using house enamel on a motor car is instantly nullified by the substantially larger reduction in the value of the car after you finish.

        • @llama: Completely agree mate.

    • +1

      Use nail polish

    • Plastics a tricky one, usually you need to use a plastic primer that'll help with adhesion and I'm not sure the primers would be compatible with these enamels.

Otherwise it will probably flake eventually, if it's for indoor use on a model though it should last long enough?

    • +2

I tried some silver and copper paint on some Gundam parts, and they look great. Details are on complete show, the paint stuck fine.

I think they're fine for such jobs, if they're just accessories. You could always give it a go for $2 - on a few parts. If it doesn't work out, then you can fix it up :)

      • +3

Got both the el-cheapo $2 SCA and $12 Tamiya TS-17 100ml Gloss Alumunium. No primer. And you know what, it works & I dont see the difference between both. Maybe coz I'm just a newbie. :P

        https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/72858/37063/silverpain…

The hole saw & sharp drill bits (and handle) are spray painted with Tamiya. The long drill is with SCA. I'm using Metallic Silver Sharpie for touch up here & there. Pretty happy with SCA branded spray can. Went back to get more earlier today. :)

        • +1

Yeh no doubt the Tamiya is better quality, and probs will last longer. But for such small surface areas and things that aren't taking a beating - it's absolutely fine. $2 though, cheap as and is a larger can :)

Btw, awesome figure and brutal weapons!

Good chance my train next week will be more colourful than it was today.
Though i wish they'd tag the train in a readable font. Verdana is easy enough on the eyes.

    • You should send the receipt to transport nsw.

  • So, can they legally sell this here, or has it been imported? :P

    • +4

It'll be ozbargain'd before the graffiti artists can get to it, chances are crates of this stuff will be sitting in an ozbargainer's garage, untouched, whose sole purpose was knowing they nabbed a bargain!

  • Stock up before Banksy cleans 'em up.

    • +1

Banksy is a hack, RIP King Robbo.

  • Sorry for the stupid question here, but what are these paints good for spraying onto? Ie; Furniture etc., - I have a crappy chipboard book case, a chest of wooden drawers and a wooden desk that I want to give a cheap makeover to?

    Will these paints work??

It doesn't need to be a forever job, but something that will give me another year or two of wear before I finally update furniture etc,

    Thanks in advance.

    • +1

I used them to spray paint my huge DIY TV entertainment unit and matching coffee table. I went through countless cans of the stuff to get it all done. They run out pretty quickly. I used a tub of white paint and had leftover for the oversized bookshelf I built. So paint might be the better way to go.

      • -1

        Paint cost more..

a small tub is like $40.

I think spray paint last longer and easy to do these pet projects like yours

I just depends on how many coats you spray.

        • Mistints, sample pots, bargains… Why would you pay $40 for a pot of paint.

To answer the question, for furniture you're better off using a pot of paint.

        • +1

Yes, the mistints being sold cheaply are found on a trolley at the paint section at Bunnings and can be great value. I painted my whole bedroom with a pot of lavendar mistint and mixed in some white for the skirting/door/window frames. Everyone who sees it loves it.

  • Supercheap Auto are also offering a $32 dashcam at the moment:

    http://groupbuy.ebay.com.au/deal?itemId=191796169550

It looks a lot like the crappy $12 one I got from China via AliExpress. Low res video and not wide lens.

  • Will someone please think of the children :P

  • Thanks for the tips on paint types. Much appreciated. :-)
