"For a limited time, you can unlock up to 110 Status Credits on the ground when you earn 1,000 Qantas Points across shopping, credit cards, hotel stays and more"

How does it work - If you earn 1000 points in each category, you'll get a certain amount of SC.
cards and banking - 20
insurance - 20
utilities and services - 20
hotels and travel - 10
fuel and cars - 10
food and wine - 10
shopping - 10
health, leisure and entertainment - 10

Not a bad "deal" - free to register, and if you're going to spend in the categories listed anyway you get a topup of status points.

What next? They will introduce a new flying status tier for flying only? FFS.

I have an acquiantance who works for one of the leading rewards companies globally, these are the companies that provide the backend rewards/loyalty services to Qantas, Woolies, Bunnings etc. The stories he has would blow your mind because Rewards/Loyalty schemes are like a grey market for financial transactions so it extremely profitable business. So expect these things to get crazier and crazier because there is so much money involved.

      • Reward points is very profitable for many businesses. Delta made a profit because of it's reward program sometime recently

        • "Delta made a profit because of it's reward program sometime recently"

Exact reason why they are a subpar airline like Qantas.

      • Yes it is. Not a brag but certain status in one world is pretty handy to have even when you are travelling economy. Some folks spends upwards of 20k a year to get those perks. 110 sc is equivalent to around 1100 dollars of flight without dsc. So it’s a huge deal for those trying to retain platinum. Or even gold

Qantas Loyalty consistently has the highest profit margin out of all the Group’s business units. Recent annual report 19.4% with a $556m EBIT.

The actual airline side basically just needs to scrape by or at least break even while the rewards program carries the rest of the company into profitability.

        Qantas International $596m 6.5%
        Qantas Domestic $1.056b 13.9%
        Jetstar $769m 13.5%.

The frequent flyer program is a lean, highly efficient operation where Qantas has total control of both supply and demand. They’re more profitable being an unofficial bank that happens to fly planes than the other way around.

    • it is actually very very rare for qantas to provide status credits for anything other than flights and some of the high end credit card deals. So unless they go the way of virgin where you could basically get status credits for farting loudly then I doubt they will seperate them.

      • Just to confirm that there are no status credits for farting loudly. I've confirmed from a friend who works with frequent flyer team.

Good offer, especially if already earning on thoae categories. Counts for lifetime is great news.

    • -6

Lol. Lifetime silver? Why would anyone bother with it.

      • +3

Additional luggage allowance with both Qantas and Emirates

      • +12

Lifetime silver? Why would anyone bother with it.

Because if it costs nothing and it benefits you then it's still a win.
You do know this is OzBargain, not OzCloutWhoring?

      • Cuz you are 50% closer to lifetime gold. Lol
Silver lets you check in at business kiosk. Meaning you don’t have to queue up with bunch of people on busy flights.
That’s the only useful perk of silver unless you like to haul your walk in closet thru the airport. If you have ever flew busines then you would know how useful it is.

    • The status credits count for a lifetime? I wont make the number of flights required by 31 Oct to upgrade but was wondering if it's still worth my time for the credits.

      • regardless of whether you make an effort, it takes all of a couple of clicks to register, then if you happen to spend in the categories you get the advantage. personally I already have a points earning card and insurance. I will get my new qantas wine vouchers in a month to use so I will get at least 3 categories of status credits for zero effort beyond clicking register.

  • 1000 points by 31 December. Seems achievable

  • Excludes Qantas Points earned with ALL - Accor Live Limitless.
Excludes Qantas Points earned via the Qantas Wellbeing App.

Very doable on most categories for anyone who already goes for Everyday Rewards/gift cards/wine/Qantas Marketplace

Since Accor is specifically excluded, you can stack the IHG 20% off on a Holiday Inn Express for cheap hotels + breakfast.

  • I only earn Qantas points from AMEX, is this worth signing up?

    • Might as well, not like it costs anything.

    • 20 SC better than nothing, especially if you're close to a tier

      • Reckon i can double dip? Use my Qantas AMEX and spend $1000 on Airbnb?

  • so what will i get, probably nothing

  • Site can't keep up:

    We're experiencing some problems
We're working on fixing this, please try again or come back later

You’ll receive Status Credits within six to eight weeks of completing a category

Better to also look into your qantas membership anniversary date
as status credit will reset to 0 in every new qantas membership year

eg. my membership year ends in 30 Nov, if I spend now and get the SC by mid Nov
where its not enough to reach to next tier, then on 1 Dec it turns back to 0
So I would prefer not to spend any until at least mid/late October
when the SC arrives, it's my new membership year (6-8 weeks after spending)

    • mine conveniently ended yesterday :-)

      • thats the best situation LOL

        • +1

yep usually I manage to get screwed over by the timing as I travel a lot around this period. this year though timing has worked out perfectly for both travel, double status deal and now this deal.

  • Enjoy spending a minimum of $500 at Hoyts to get your 10 SC followed by a $1000 spend at BP to get another 10 SC and then another $500 spend at Red Energy to get another 10 SC.

The only winners here are Hoyts, BP and Red Energy.

    • -1

what a moronic way to look at it. basically you register, if BP is your fuel of choice then if you spend $500 in the next 3 months you will get the points. similarly if you already use Red Energy this is a no brainer. same for credit card/hotel/shopping. basically this is free status credits for a very large majority of us for zero change in spend or effort, you don't have to use every category

  • "If you earn 1000 points in each category" in EACH category, which means you need to earn 8,000 points in total.

    • +1

only if you want to earn the maximum points, you can do 1 or more categories but will only earn credits for the categories you earn at least 1000 points in.
