Windows 10 Legit?

Hey guys,

just wondering if something like this is legit:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Microsoft-Windows-10-Professional…

It is quite cheap and am wondering if I should buy it or not so that my install can be genuine. Only other option is off the reddit marketplace sub which has it for cheaper than aus prices but still more expensive than the ebay link.

I guess the part that gets me (besides from cheapness) is the bit where he says something about "volume license"

What do you guys think, ebay for $25 or reddit for $65?

Comments

  • If it looks too good to be true…

    • exactly my thoughts. Just wondering why the ones on the reddit sub seem so popular with many accounts claiming it is genuine (i did not link the subreddit, and it is a different offer to the ebay link)

    • is there a difference besides the price?

      • Yeah, the one i posted is now removed lol

  • Hope this helps

With the exception of Product Key Cards (PKC’s) distributed with COA’s, Microsoft does not distribute products keys as standalone products. If you see a listing on an auction site, online classified ad, or other online page advertising product keys for sale, it’s a good indication that the keys are likely stolen or counterfeit. If you were to purchase and use a stolen or counterfeit product key to activate Windows installed on your PC, the key may not work for activation, may already be in use on another PC, or it might be blocked from use later by Microsoft when the key is reported stolen. The best way to get everything you expect up front is to buy genuine Microsoft software preinstalled on a new PC or genuine Microsoft software from an authorized reseller.

  • It's a volume license key (the same key they are giving out over and over again), this shouldn't be sold and is likely leaked from an MSDN account.

If this were legit, it should be a retail (single-use) key. Again, the price is too cheap to justify it being legit in the first place.

I'd avoid this, as volume license keys can get blacklisted over time by Microsoft, no update granted and you would have wasted ~$27.00

    • Thanks for the explanation. I will also check it the reddit one is volume license

  • funny how you mentioned this as Windows 10 decided to update itself and I got a new browser called Microsoft Edge - it feels a bit more quicker than before too.

  • Microsoft are still doing free upgrades from win7/8.

    • Hmm i do not have windows 7 or 8 and wouldnt want to downgrade my device to upgrade to 10 as I just finished setting up my media server lol.

  • ebay doesn't allow sales of digital downloadable goods. If something goes pear shaped, you're not getting your money back…

    • Thanks for the advice

  • I recently built a new computer, i bought a random product key from some european guy for around $45aud and i went to sleep. Next morning, he already sent me the code for windows 10 pro.

    • Yeah, that's SURE to be legitimate.

      • well i've been running it for two months and no problems at all. I'd say it's worth the savings of around $100+

        • Yeah, sometimes they don't get picked up for a while. Doesn't mean it's not dodgy

        • @magicmoose:
          seems to be legit :)

  • why buy it when you get it free direct from microsoft themself

I wouldnt trust anything you cant see from microsoft direct

    like the win10 free upgrade

but you do what you like

    have a nice day
