  • If i'm correct, the Prime is made for the Asian markets… Don't ask why it's different.

Get the Note 2 one: http://en.miui.com/download-274.html

BTW I'm a prospective buyer for the phone (freaking $180 what!); how's the performance (lagging? App loading time? Initial bootup time?), screen quality, battery life, usability in general… Are you a happy camper overall?

    THanks and good luck

    • I use SMIUI and am not encountering any major bugs or performance issues.

Thing is… apart from the CPU bin and clock speed I don't think there's any difference between non-Prime and Prime version.
I think you can install the Note 2 ROM and expect it to work on Note 2 Prime… probably.
The Note 2 is codenamed 'Hermes' but I can't for the life of me find a specific codename for the Prime ver.

      • can you load SMIUI using the updater on the phone?

        • No you can't. the updater only connects to the Xiaomi ROMs repository.

You'll need to visit Google and Youtube and search for methods to load TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) onto your device.

This is an essential step and is required to even install any type of 3rd party ROM onto your phone.

        • k thanks

  • i got the Redmi Note 2 Prime i think this has a faster cpu? and more space. For the price i got it for around 6mths back, $250, its a very good phone. If your after a phone for the biggest bang for your buck you cant go wrong with it. Only issue i got is all the bloatware and popups.
One thing i dont like about the phone is the notification. On my old phones they used to show up in the very top of the phone bar as little icons of messages etc. I dont see that on this phone. Maybe im not using it or because i have loaded Nova Launcher on the phone. Im used to android type layouts and the miui os is pretty much a iOS clone

    • Nova doesn't touch the notifications drawer, so you cannot customize the little icons that appear on the top. The only way to do so is by using an Xposed module. It's a bit more advanced and needs a rooted phone.

they used to show up in the very top of the phone bar as little icons of messages etc.

Are you sure? The icons are very small though, so it's hard to miss, but they are definitely there.

      • no i meant this is a feature on my old android phones. Not the Redmi Note 2 Prime

dunno why these guys have to have phones with such similar names
went to another website and they have Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note Prime…

Redmi note 2 and Note 2 Prime are the same. The Prime comes with 32gb memory and 2.2ghz CPU. However the Note 2 comes with 16gb memory and only 2ghz CPU. Firmware codename is Hermes. Go to xiaomi.eu and download the firmware from there and flash it with twrp. I've made a tutorials on how to flash it in Whirlpool forums about 4 months ago. You might want to check it out.
I've been using Redmi note 2 for about 6 months now. Great device!

  • My Redmi Note 2 Prime (32GB) from GearBest October 2015 runs on Android 5.0.2LRX22G, MIUI 66.77.111.0 (LHMCNCH) Stable. I cannot run SMS Messaging - "Unfortunately, Messaging has Stopped" plus a lot of bloat ware. What should I do? Is there a "Dummys' Guide" how to flash to get the original Miui software? Any help appreciated. HandsomeMonkey - can you send the link to your tutorial in Whirlpool.

  • Hi manja, SpendLess
I followed Fastboot Update http://en.miui.com/a-234.html and using ROM "Redmi Note 2 Latest Global Stable Version Fastboot File Download". It failed at Step 5 (running MiFlash.exe) - cannot find the driver.

Am I using the correct ROM version? Your help please.

  • I currently own a Redmi Note 2 (got it a month ago from a $170 deal!) and it's been running great ever since. When I first received it (Dealsextreme), it had Miui 6 and looking on the forums, I found updating the rom to a newer version was as simple as downloading the latest stable or beta rom and using the updater app to install it. Also, my phone did not come with ANY bloatware. It was nearly as clean as my stock Nexus 5 (simtray area died/corroded from water). Then flashed TWRP and everything was golden.
