Just ordered a 128gb one last week… Kinda glad I did, otherwise this would have been hard to pass up. 128GB@$75 is still better $/GB & I personally don't need the extra space.

hmmm lowest price ever. Maybe second lowest. Good price though :) HERE

      ROM not RAM

        • +8

          It's not ROM either.

It's flash memory. Flash memory is not RAM either.

RAM is memory that is fast to read/write but is lost when power is removed.

Flash memory is non volatile but slower to write (needs to be erased first too)

          @T1OOO:
It's not non-volatile RAM. It's a different thing with different uses in the phone.

A current iPhone has 1GB of RAM.

No matter how rude you are, it won't make you any less wrong.

@Shonky: Just a heads up, a current iPhone has 2GB of RAM.

Ah true. Forgot about the 6S and only looked up the 6.

No I don't understand. If no one corrected anyone on here, how the hell would anyone learn anything? Luckily most people are mature enough to admit their mistake and get over it.

        • @T1OOO:

What does the s stand for?

        • @T1OOO:Think what he means is that the current max amount of storage with todays tech is 328GB on an Android phone that supports a 128GB rom + 200GB expandable storage. But this isnt gonna be the case bc most of the newer phones released from Samsung have only 128GB rom n no expandable memory :(
And the LG G4 only supports max 32GB rom. There are rumors for the G5 to support 128GB rom as well have expandable mem.But its not released yet :(
Ooh n theres the Asus Zenphone 2 that has a 128GB rom n option for expandable memory.Making that the only candidate i could find meeting those needs.
Unless you attach this 200GB card to a micro sd reader via OTG to a 128GB Galaxy S6.Then u would have in theory roughly 328GB of total storage - Minus space lost from formatting.
I always found that whenever i attach a micro sd reader via otg to my phone. It will corrupt the card due to the OTG cable getting loose when walking around.Itll kill the micro sd card from improper removal if im watching a movie on the card n the cable gets bumped.
          Just my 2c

@AzNDuDe: It's not ROM, it's flash memory. ROM is read only (that's why it's called ROM).

        • @Daniel15: yup. Shouldve just defined it as the phones internal flash memory. Reason i used the term ROM was to refer to the memory the phone os is on - ie the ROM. eg Flashing a custom rom onto the phones flash memory. Much more easier understood in laymans terms
If i were to refer to it as flash memory it would be too confusing.Since micro sd cards are sold n called flash memory as well. And both the micro sd n internal phone flash memory are nonvolatile memory that erases data in blocks. The phone os is mostly rom being written over through. And most of the os is retained on the phones flash mem as read only - though parts of it can be rewritten for updates etc. But I get ur point. If it was the rom the user wont be able to access it n use it for additional data storage. The phones ROM is hardwired for the bootloader eg. But when theres a firmware update the bootloader gets written over. So theres some ambigulity on whether it is actually read only memory n not *erasable/rewritable - insert best fitting term - lol
Actually i think to make it less confusing we should just refer to it as internal phone flash memory ?

          @AzNDuDe:

The Android ROM you are referring to is a system image file that contains the Android OS and affiliated apps anf has nothing to do with the type of memory on the phone.

A "stock ROM" is from the manufacturer and is pre-installed on the phone, whereas a "custom ROM" comes from a third party.

Some mobile phones have Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM). However this is generally only a few kb and stores the serial number, lock code, etc.

    • Memory and Storage get the difference lol

I wonder if some technical limit has been hit temporarily for microSD cards and capacity as I would expect a 256 GB card to come after 128 GB, not 200 GB.

    • +1

Yes the current technology simply can only fit this much in the space available in a micro SD card.

      • +1

A 256GB micro sd is prob already in the works. Its just out of consumer reach due to cost from new fabrication processes.
I remember Sandisk showed off their 2TB micro sd prototype back in 2009.
Havent heard much about it since. But its possible. Just give it time for it to reach the market. There are challenges for read/write reliablity. From what i read the older MLC fab can sustain more read /write cycles compared to current TLC techniques. Samsung found a way around it making TLC more reliable.
Been patiently waiting for the 2TB micro sd ever since i heard that news.
Can wait till the day i replace my mech hdd with micro sd as my preferred backup medium.

Microdia showed off a 512GB microSD ages ago, but it never went on sale.

I just found an old 1gb in the shed from Uni. Crazy.

I got one a few months back to turn my 256GB Macbook pro retina into a 456GB. I use the card for my Windows games and the performance is the same as on the PCIe-based 633mb/s stock drive. Loading slower only by a bit.

I'm using one of these clever drives which sits flush- http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-Shipping-New-For-iPad-4-…

    • $1.60 for one of those flush adapters here
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TF-MicroSD-Micro-SD-Card-SDHC-To-…

      • The eBay one doesn't sit flush though, curves out a little. .

        • Depends on your device. I'm using one on a Dell XPS 13. Sticks out about 1mm.

      • Bought one of those first- sticks out a good couple mm. Tried trimming it- and broke it. The one above was the cheapest I could fine that I could verify fitted entirely flush in my MBPr 15 2015.

  • How reliable are these Sandisk? cause I've 2 Sandisk Ultra 32GB MicroSD failed on me in the past, the phone keep trying to scan the card, and it has nothing to do with the OS, replaced it with Samsung MicroSD, problem gone.

Was about to post this as a separate deal but the price looks like it has gone lower now possibly due to the rising AUD?
    200GB now $79.50USD
    128GB now $49.94USD
    64GB now $22.83USD

    https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3…

    • Should've posted it as a separate deal man, I would have jumped on that

      • Couldn't really as it was a double up of a post.
This post could have been updated however I believe?

        • Someone else did end up posting it as a separate deal though. No worries, next time for both of us man :)
