Or you can go the grey import route through Kogan etc for low to mid $200's.
Xperia M4 Aqua is a better choice for about the same price.
I've also been looking for a phone with the same budget to use it for the things that OP wants except for Watsapp. Sometimes I listen to music when using public transport. I haven't bought the Zenfone selfie(Zd551kl) yet but it has better specs than the Moto G 3rd Gen. The Asus ZD551KL has a bigger 5.5 inch screen, better Chipset/CPU/GPU, larger battery and better resolution/pixel density. Comparing the Asus to the M4 Aqua, they both have the same Chipset/CPU/GPU. But the M4 has a smaller screen size, lower resolution/pixel density and the battery is smaller. The Asus is also cheaper than the Moto G 3rd Gen and is the same price as the M4 Aqua ($299) on the qd_au Ebay store.

I prefer Sony phones over Asus phones but I'm leaning towards choosing the Asus because of the better specs. I've read about the heating problems concerning the M4 Aqua, it might be fixed with a firmware update but I'm not 100% sure. Does anyone know if there's a phone that has better specs than the Asus ZD551KL in the same price range? I probably can increase my budget up to $350.
The specs on paper mean very little without the qualitative parts you can read in the reviews. You'll see despite the Asus having higher resolution screen and bigger battery the screen quality/ sunlight readability and battery life is not as good as the M4. But in the end they are both not bad choices.

LG G2 is still pretty good. I heard the quad hd screen on the G3 drains the battery quite a bit.
I have been using G3 HOng Kong stock since Nov - 2014, so far the battery is good. I surf the net to and from work for 1 hour each way and it still have 40% when I get back home.
Speed is good, camera is good as well.
Will be using it for another year before switching.
But the G2 is closer to the target price. I own it and I can't really fault it but am planning to upgrade to the G4 as soon as the G5 is announced to take advantage of any discounts.

I was in the same boat. Bought a oneplus X. Have had it for roughly 2 months. Still cant find a better phone than it (for the price)*.
*I didn't want to go larger than 5"
