Tempting.. but how often does someone actually use bluray?

    • +2

Box sets are often on special and far better for movies like LOTR, Star Wars, etc etc… :)

    • -1

      lol blu-ray

ANyone who doesn't torrent/direct download probably still uses it. I have already boycotted the US film industry, bluray/DVD sales included.

      • -5

me too. not just see no point of buying and also the issue with storing those discs, especially when you are renting and still need to move around, is just not efficient.
and after the threats from deadpool ticket saga i wont go to cinema anymore

        • What's the story with "threats from deadpool ticket saga"?

        • +2

after the threats from deadpool ticket saga

Oh wow really? You tried to scam free tickets, they said no, now you won't go to a cinema…?! Umm ok then

I went to see Deadpool on the weekend, was bloody awesome and worth seeing on the big screen :)

          • Member posted links to get free tickets for preview screenings
          • Screenings were for select people, but booking pages were completely open, no need for passwords etc
          • Studio rep came here, said ticket holders wouldn't be allowed in, that there would be security at the screenings to turn people away.
          • Some people took the mention of security etc as threats, and proceeded to reinforce their viewpoint.
          • Those people got annoyed they didn't get what they thought they were entitled to, proceeded to whinge until the cows came home.

Evidently, the cows haven't come home!

    • Where does the high quality media come from that you pirate? Bluray.

I use Bluray everyday. Actually gave up on streaming as resuming is quite a pain compared to bluray. The picture quality is massively better too.

      • I was referring to myself. I don't use blu-ray discs. I download other people's blu-ray rips. Blu-ray is just a storage format. Don't get confused.

        • +1

So…. you are using Bluray. Just because you downloaded the 50gb .iso or a inferior 8gb rip of just the movie doesn't mean you don't use Bluray. It is the same as claiming you watch a cam instead of going to the movies and laughing at people that go to the movies.

        • @auna:

DUde you are completely missing the point. I was referring to buying blu-ray discs and using them at home. I DO NOT DO THAT!

I stand by my point. Once the video is extracted from the blu-ray disc, it is no longer a blu-ray video, and is encoded in a different video format. Ergo I (ME, MYSELF and I) do not use blu-ray discs.

          Clear enough for you?
I never said blu-ray was not needed at all. How else could people get these films? I would have assumed it was obvious since all 1080p torrents have blu-ray rip in its title.

It is the same as claiming you watch a cam instead of going to the movies and laughing at people that go to the movies.

No, it's not. You're just on a different tangent now that doesn't make any sense to what I said.
What is your actual point from the get go? That blu-ray is useful? I agree. Useful to honest people, kids, and people who want collector's editions and boxed sets.
People who do not torrent which is what I said from the beginning. If you count groups who rip blu-ray discs then include them in the list too.

        • @auna: To be fair, most on here about about cost, so they prob don't even have a TV or sound system that is that great to actually benefit from a bluray. Anyone who values video/audio quality wouldn't think twice about a bluray. I own all of my favorite movies on bluray. The drama/effort/cost/maintenance of torrents is stupid compared to blurays, and the fact that blurays are legal.

He is not using a bluray lol, at no point is he owning a product, and having a physical media, let alone a legal copy. And you are right, he is prob downloading rips that are well under 5gb and therefore no point arguing about quality.

          @cDNA:

Sorry, but what a piss-poor attitude. Just purely to leech off people?! You can't put a single $ back into the movie company if it's a movie you like? You'd rather download 50+GB per movie, just because you can?

This is Australia and OzBargain so it's likely that most people reading this have pirated content on their device, but to just openly admit to taking advantage of everyone is amazing!

          Jees, where don't you leech?

        • @Spackbace:

I don't particularly care about bargains except the eBay ones and big ticket items.
I take advantage of a lot of people to rake in the cash for my company. It's how the white collar world works.

Not posting deals on ozbargain is perfectly fine, so please stop yapping, Methuselah.

When Hollywood starts paying its technical and support staff properly, I'll contribute. Until then, those actors and their bosses can go to hell. The big film production companies are owned by wealthy scumbag zionists and right-wing conservatives, so excuse me if I do not wish to make them richer.

Yep for leeches it would be. Wouldn't be a site for you to leech off if everyone thought like you. Thankfully, they don't.

It's ok, you keep taking advantage of everyone, one day you'll actually need someone's help.

Whether you use Blu-ray is not important.
It also has USB, netflix, DLNA (local streaming) and optical audio input.

    • No Netflix, but the rest is right :)

      • +1

It also has HDMI ARC, so audio from the TV can be sent back via the HDMI cable.

      • Ah, no netflix in the XY version. Its an old model that predates Netflix in oz.

Tried a firmware upgrade? Some brands added it after netflix was officially available here.

  • seems to be no longer available

  • Just got my refund because they didn't have the stock. Fantastic! (Sarcasm)

    • :(

      17 days later?!

      • Yep ordered 16 Feb.

        From my email today:

"We have been contacted by our supplier regarding this item, unfortunately they have advised that they will no longer be able to source this title. Our product team will be deleting this title off our database.

This title has now been cancelled from your order and full refund has been processed."

        • That's irritating

        • @Spackbace: Yeah, I was looking forward to it as well. Super awesome price, well done for finding it. Maybe it was just a little too super awesome though. :(
