Cheapest Way to Ship Car from Melbourne to Tasmania?

Hi Guys
I desperately need help in trying to get my car from Melbourne to Tasmania. It is a 4 door sedan. I want to know options where I dont have to travel with the car unlike Spirit of Tasmania… Any suggestions, costs?? Its one way transfer at the moment.
Thanks

  • Hi, According to https://www.spiritoftasmania.com.au/customer-support/faqs

Can I send my car on the ship if I'm not a passenger?

Yes. However if you are not a passenger on the ship, you will need to book through our Freight department. Higher rates apply as the advertised fare only applies to cars accompanying passengers. Request a freight quote using https://www.spiritoftasmania.com.au/customer-support/freight…

  • Thanks, I still waiting to hear from them. Was wondering what the cost would be and if anyone knows any other option.
    Cheers

I can tell you right now that the spirit of tas would be your best option.
      Toll/Searoad are your other options.

One way, if you travel with the car can be calculated on the website. I would assume that the freight cost would be slightly less than the cost of the actual fare.

Definitely Spirit of Tas unless you know someone with a ship that can freight you over.

    You could try driving it.

  • Post on airtasker for someone to drive your car from Melbourne to Tas? Who knows, someone might be in need for a holiday to Tasmania, and wouldn't mind getting a bit of money on the way.

    • Sorry but entrusting a car to some random off AirTasker would be pretty stupid.

      • There's risk of course, but if you pick people with good reputation, then it's a viable cheaper option.

        • Just ask the guy who had his stuff stolen by dodgy removalists :P

Also, I think insurance may not cover this. I believe some companies won't cover a car stolen while on a test drive without the owner, so it would pay to check.

  • TasFreight could be another option that may be cheaper than Toll or SeaRoad.

  • ill drive it, im from qld and would love to do that for a holiday

  • Your vehicles once on board is probably safe…
