Schweppes Traditionals - Brown Creaming Soda. Where Did It Go?

I bought a 600ml bottle of this a week and a half ago from a bakery in Canberra and it blew my mind. Like the yellow creaming soda I grew up on as a kid but with more vanilla and smoother. Don't talk to me about your red creaming soda. That's an affront to whatever deity you believe in.

Anyway, on Saturday I bought a 1.25l from local smaller Coles and it was, indeed, heaven.

The next day I set out to buy the ultimate combo - brown creaming soda and high quality ice cream to make a spider (ice cream float). Headed to Coles.

No brown creaming soda.

Did some other shopping went to woolies and coles at Woden shopping centre. Not there.

Had to go help my sister so checked out Supa Barn. Not there.

IGA. Not there. 7 supermarkets later, nothing.

Messaged Shweppes on Facebook. No response after 3 days.

Coles online had it listed as unavailable and now, nothing. Schweppes has "Traditional Red Creaming Soda" on shelves but that stuff is no substitute.

Is this a limited edition thing? So limited that it leaves stores all stores in under 24hrs? Was it a food/bottle scare? What surprised me was how quickly and completely this thing seems to have disappeared.

Please do me a favour: if you are near a supermarket today, please check it out and report in if you have time.

Its been around for ages, so it had better not have disappeared suddenly…. It's the only locally available creaming soda of it's type(foreign non-red creaming soda's exist).

I'm going out today(I'm in SA though) I'll try and report back…

Since you're in Canberra, the only place I've found it regularly is at Belconnen Markets, at Tom's Superfruits. Between the milk and the checkouts are a few isles of groceries, including 1.25L Brown Creaming Soda.

Brown Creaming Soda is, I understand, sold widely in SA and WA, and sparsely in the East. It is delicious, and way better than red. Sometimes you will be in luck and a cafe or smaller supermarket or shop will have it, but its less common in the big supermarkets, I don't know why.

    • Champion, I will definitely look into that.

The Schweppes website says 'it can be found in stores across Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania'. Your glowing review of it definitely makes me want to go out and try it but I'll have to wait for a holiday I guess. Really not sure why your supermarkets and shops in Canberra stocked it for a bit and then stopped though.

    • As someone who lives in VIC I don't think i've ever seen the red one sold before, I get the brown one all the time though.

      • You think you're pretty smart, huh? Swanning in here, showing off with your ability to buy brown cream soda whenever you please? (I'm just jealous).

  • can someone post a pic to job my memory please

I use the red creaming soda to stay awake when I'm studying. Whether it does because it can or whether it is psychosomatic then I'm not sure. But it works for me.

      Maybe it was psychochromatic? :)

    • depends on the ratio involving Psychosomatic

90% Psycho 10% somatic works for me :)

Never seen anything but red creaming soda in QLD

Yeah, it's definitely regional. I grew up on yellow cream soda in the Northern Rivers of NSW. Very different tastes.

  • The only place I've seen it recently (a few months ago) was Harris Farms supermarket. And the one near me closed down.

    • PS Schweppes brown is a bit too vanilla-y. I prefer Saxby's yellow (NSW central coast) or Barq's red (USA).

      • Will look into this. Saxby's stuff is pretty good.

  • When i moved to Qld was shattered it wasnt there.
But back in Vic now, and its in coles :)
so get someone in vic to buy and ship it to you.

  • The woodcroft foodland (SA) still has it, just came back from there…..

  • You could always get some delivered from here, http://www.trenddrinks.com.au/

Probably the best soft drink you will ever taste.

  • For what it's worth, I have subsequently found a relatively regular source at various IGA's around town. Not all of them, but enough ;)
