  • anyone know much about the photo quality

Before anyone even bothers getting this phone I would like to point out a few key issues I have with this company (UMI / UMIDIGI) and the forums.
    • I bought the UMI Iron Pro after seeing that was cheap and it has been nothing but issues with the broken ROMs and lack of community support. Yes the rom is pre-rooted but since the release DEC2015 there has only been a single update and this fixes tiny issues, main ones like broken headphone support / stuttering audio still remains.
    • Their forums are a mess (and also broken) and getting a response from any moderation or admin is something that rarely happens and when it does it's just a copy paste message you've seen elsewhere.
    • Most China-phones have been able to support all the mobile bands, the UMI devices seem to somehow miss a few important ones which Telstra use for voice calling. So you will be able to send and receive texts but only call out.
    • As for image specs, the UMI Iron Pro was boasting of a massive 13MP Sony sensor on the back, shame the final images look like they were taken with a 2MP camera and then upsized. (post will be edited with proof soon)

For the price I would just save up a bit more and go for a OnePlus device, they have a large community backing and any issues you find in the roms will probably be squished a few weeks after you report them to the developers.

Not to disagree with your first hand experience, but it is pretty routine with China phones to offer very limited support.
There are 40+ pages on XDA which is likely to help many issues, if they are software fixable:
      http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/umi-iron-uni…

I agree a more proven brand like OnePlus or Xiaomi is more likely to iron out any bugs, but then you will pay 2 or 3 times the price. There is a place for both market niche, I think.

Love my Xiaomi redmi note 2 great support factory rom … just wish it had 700mhz for optus and telstra.

        • Do you know if the Redmi Note 2 supports the Foxtel Go app? I'm interested in getting one but it must support Foxtel Go?

          Cheers

sending and receiving texts work over the voice network so if you can make a call you can send a text.

OnePlus devices are overpriced and now not a "cheap" china droid product

get a Redmi Note 3 and have zero dramas

      • OnePlus devices are overpriced and now not a "cheap" china droid product

Because they're owned by Oppo that also sell premium china phones.

Note, no good for nextg 3g, and only some 4g bands.

    • +4

Okay for 3G on Optus, not Telstra and Vodafone.
4G does not support 2100MHz (let alone 700MHz). For that alone, I would not recommend it.

Only 16GB ROM and no MicroSD slot? A sack of prunes would be a better buy - they'll be faster to log out.

    • +1

Supports a memory card as an option in the second sim slot.

  • +2

no WCDMA 850 and LTE 700

My suggestion is staying away from most of the Chinese smart phones, except those top brands. This will save you lots of unnecessary trouble.

  • Any idea what the camera quality is like. My Lenovo K3 that everyone raved about takes terrible pictures - especially low light. I'm ready to put an axed through my K3 Note, slow charge, fragile glass, over heating on dash (in shade). Just a crappy camera. My old samsung note 2 takes better pics and runs so much better.

    • that's strange about your K3 note camera.

i find mine extremely good, in fact i was just in hawaii and used my phone camera more than my Olympus camera.

charging is great. battery life excellent.

best china droid I've bought to date

      • Maybe I have a dud one, but on the camera review sites I have found it also shows colours are not great.

      • My k3 note has been excellent. No issues at all. I only use the camera for in the moment photos, and my dslr for real photos, so I can't comment on the photo quality, but the battery life is excellent.

I grabbed one of the 9h glass screen protectors early so no scratches, but I'm sure the screen would otherwise be scratched to buggery.

Are you still using the stock ROM or one of the newer ones. DEV versions are up to marshmellow now.

If you are really not happy, let me know, I may know someone who would buy it. Could be An issue if really scratched.

        • 3 separate shatter points on the screen. My 9h arrived a couple of days AFTER the first one.

  • Price indicated is not matched by the one on the site as it states AUD $265.00

    • There is a coupon in the post: UMITOUCH2016

  • Invalid coupon ??

  • The battery in the official website says 4000mah. The specs are awesome for the price. Should I just go for it?

  • Anyone else interested geekbuying also has a $70 off coupon and can also use cashrewards.
