USA Foods Free Shipping ($120+ Min Spend)

50

Got an email today (not targeted) stating that USAfoods are offering free shipping for 1 week only (started 15th).

"For one week only we're offering FREE shipping for all orders over a certain value! For more information about free shipping to your region, see the information below.
Major cities and surrounding suburbs - $120
Perth - $180
Country - $250
Unsure if your region is eligible? Simply add products to your cart to meet the minimum requirement and our shipping calculator will let you know if your shipping is free!"

They have some good products in the sale/clearance items.

The Manhattan Special Espresso Coffee Soda 10oz has good reviews around the place, and is 50c/bottle (amazon.com are selling them in 12 packs for $4.57USD/bottle)

DR Pepper (cans) 12 packs $19.00 ($1.58 a can).

I actually ordered the above in quantity and a bag of pretzels to bring it to just over the $120 mark and it was going to charge me around $198 after shipping and handling so the saving for me was aver $60 after free shipping and handling was applied.

note: when you go to checkout, the shipping costs still show… once you "continue" to the shipping method, that is where it will tell you "Australia Post Standard - Free" if it applies to your order.

  • "still have to pay around $12 tax" what's the tax for?

    • Not sure, my assumption is they add the GST component at checkout (can't get much more american than that)

Sure can. You can leave a tip!

well that's illegal then. stores have to show the full price not $xx plus tax unless its a wholesale service and it isn't because they have a separate wholesale area.

If you are selling to an end-user (i.e. you are RETAILING the product), the price must be shown inclusive of GST at the first point of visibility (i.e. the first price the customer sees).

If you are selling only to retailers (i.e. you are WHOLESALING the product), and the wholesale price is only visible to those retailers that you approve, then you may show the price exclusive or inclusive of GST, but you must say which it is.

        • Take them to court

  • Actually.. after the last comment I just realised …
It is not a discount you are getting for ordering more, that is the price minus GST
So the soda was showing 50c a bottle then when in cart 45c a bottle.
So they are showing the price GST inclusive on the page. (its just taken off when put in your cart and applied again at checkout) ..

Have edited post to clear any confusion.

Can also confirm advertised stock prices include GST, it's just their carting system works it out the 'American' way.

IE: Doctor Pepper 12 pack listed for $19 on product page, but in cart shows as $17.27 with an additional $1.73 tax.

    Silly system, yeah. Misleading, no.

Now I've just got to decide if I want to drop $120 on soft drink…

EDIT: So yeah, that definitely just happened.

    • thanks. does too, I didnt really see that when I added stuff in the cart. weird way to do it.

    DR Pepper (cans) 12 packs $19.00 ($1.58 a can).

That's kinda a rip off. IGA and The Reject Shop often sell 6, 12 and 24 packs for less. The British version is occasionally on sale at Coles too.

    • Process on cotd are generally better too, e.g. Sweet baby rays, maple syrup, etc

    • The British version is inferior to the US one according to my taste buds.

      • British have cane sugar and American has corn syrup. That's why Americans love Mexican Coke. It goes on sale around ~1 every so often.

      • +1

I think the other way, US uses Corn Syrup which I think has an awful taste compared to real cane sugar.

    • I've seen it at $1.50 a can before, but never lower here in SA.

  • Wish they'd make a domestic version of Dr Pepper again. I mean, isn't all the imports proof enough that it's popular?

  • USA foods is notorious fir not shipping your order complete. They have in the past, given you a shipping estimate and even if you pay via PayPal and they ship two weeks later, they charge you whatever it is fir the goods they ship and also for the new postage amount. I winder if the goods bought goes below the threshold due to out if stick situation, if they will then charge you postage.

    • I could not see paypal allowing them to charge any extra that what you submitted.
If they did come and try it, then I would assume paypal would ask you to confirm the extra amount (not just take it).
In which way you can just open a dispute and cancel the order)
and at the end of the day if their system shows the stock as available at the time of purchase, it is up to the company to either offer them to be delivered at a later stage when in stock (without extra cost to the customer) or offer a refund or replacement product I would think.

I have also heard they ship out of date stock at times (I have never had this issue) and apparently they believe that because it states that in their terms and conditions that they may send out of date stock, that they are allowed to do this.
Again never had that this end, but can assure you, terms and conditions or not, it is illegal to do so, and a battle they would lose. (and the reason I chose to pay paypal)
