    Chullora store only?

    • Should be available to most stores (change your postcode)

      • I did and then it says (I tried 3 links) that it's available in the Chullora store only.

        • +1

Try reopening the links in incognito mode/private mode, and then entering in a postcode of a different suburb.

        • +2

E.g. Here is a picture of what it comes up as when I enter different postcodes for the first listing. Not all have stock, but they all show up with the same 'This clearance price is only available in the ________ store' message.

  • Is the checkout working for anyone else? Tried paypal and credit card and neither seem to process.

  • Caroline Springs(3023) store has stock

Nice post but no LED's seem to be on sale

    • +6

Hehe that's true…just the globes that no one wants anymore anyway.

Incandescent and CFL I'm avoiding now, and when my CFLs are dying, I'm replacing with LED only

      • +1

        I did that and disappointed

the spread is not as good + it died within 6 months. (Phillips)

The dodgy china corn LED still going strong (2 years plus) - not the mini corn though (died within 6 months too)

        • If you want good LED bulbs at a reasonable price, I get all mine from here: http://www.vtechindustries.com.au/led-lighting?dir=asc&limit…

I've tried both the warm white from both O-Lin and Energetic bulbs. Both as good as each other, with good colour temperature and tint (not too warm/yellow, and no purple tint like I've seen from others).

    • Yeah LEDs only from now on.

    • Waiting for a suitable deal before I fit the house out with LEDs. IMO a better quality of light.

      • Guess you missed the Dick Smith Clearance of Phillips LED.

    • thanks for the reminder. yes ikea also were giving away these CFLs for pretty much free too.

    Nice work lyl :)

    Nice collection. Thanks.

And thanks for the credit. Price Hipster also has some new features I announced here this morning (for those who don't frequent the forums).

I hope the new features help us even more to find great deals.

For anyone with a Costco membership (or friend) I've been buying the Luminus LED lights they sell for around $13 for a pack of 3. So far no issues at a good price with a choice of warm or cool light at 8 watts (approximately 800 lumens)

This works out at around $4.30 per bulb which is the cheapest I've seen for a quality bulb bought locally so far (not including offers such as masters clearing them out if you're lucky enough to have a store nearby that has them in stock)

    • LED one all sold out at Costco Auburn NSW. The non-LED one are still available but they generate so much heat that it raise the room temperature by another 2 degree !

    • yeah i got some last month in moorabbin. they seem good.

Good deal for those who cant afford LED

Ive gone LED since the DSE Philips LED deal and have got enough extra's to last me for 10+ years

I've got a whole bunch of misc CFL lights (about 15 - various brands) if anyone is interested. Happy to give it away for FREE if anyone in the Chatswood area wants it just ping me. About a third have never been used.

    • PM sent

  • Lots in stock in Parkinson. Thanks Lyl.

Have you ever had the moment when buying a light bulb whether to choose Cool White or Warm White? Well, no more.. You can buy the Philips Scene Switch 9.5W which I bought from Woolies/Bunnings which does both colours! Turn it on and its cool white, turn it off, then on immediately and it becomes Warm White. Just bought some yesterday and they ROCK…

    • I never like cool white so it's not something I'm interested in but I have seen those products…

Only think that's annoying is if you do prefer warm white more than cool white, the default to cool white could be annoying…

Osram has a smart bulb with a similar feature. You set it with an app and then it stays that colour until you change it.

Smart lights in general are brilliant if you manage to set it all up right.

*Slow sunrise fade-in in the mornings when you wake up.
*Cool white lights during the day, warm white after sunset.
*Toilet light that's dimmed to 30% when used in the middle of the night, 100% otherwise.
*Turn on outdoor lights when you get home.
*One-button "bed time" switch that turns off all the lights in the house.

      • Now that's some handy options there…..

    any bright ideas?

  • compact fluorescents still have their place, even though I dislike that they never reach full brightness rapidly. Will have a look, thanks.

  • Stay away from your CFLs and Eco halogen stick to LED 100%, it's worth the money in the long run for the life and saving. CFLs are bad for the environment

    • At current prices, it's quite doubtful that LEDs are cheaper than CFLs in the long run.
They are not much more efficient and they cost a lot more to purchase. (And the most efficient ~100L/W ones cost even more to purchase.)

      • Your not taking into consideration their terrible power factor

        • You're right, I hadn't thought of that.
Do you have any information about that?

A quick google suggests that a low PF in a CFL does not cost you any more to run.

    • CFLs are bad for the environment

I believe if we recycle them properly it should be ok..

It seems Cool Daylight is more popular than Warm White and yet i find most retailers (Coles / Woolworths) stock more Warm White than Cool Daylight..

    • +1

Ain't that the truth. That's quite annoying. The only place I want "warm white" is in my bedroom.

My suspicion is that since that's all we had a couple of decades ago, all the older people keep buying what they're used to.

      • +3

2700-3000K - Warm white is too yellow
6000K+ - Daylight is too blue.

4000K is the sweet spot, but they can be hard to find.

        • Umm, didn't notice that before. I'll check that next time i buy.

      • Haha, exactly! Looks like i am not alone. It could be the reason.

Sometimes when i was browsing around the shops generally i can see Warm White bulbs are a lot more than Daylight ones. In some cases there are no Daylight bulbs at all. That's just a stupid way of stocking items..

  • Anyone know where to get multicoloured E27 bulbs(which has a ir remote)? Just received one from a crappy china site claiming it's 10w but it's no where near close to 10w. Not interested in the wireless ones which are controlled from a phone.

  • just got a call from Masters Dandenong that they run out of stock, so refunding it

  • Springfield has plenty of stock of Philips 14w and a few 18w
