    Wow, now that is bye-life

  • +7

Sugar is sweet, that sugar replacement is sh@t

    • +14

I thought it tasted alright (better than coke zero), but a 30% reduction in calories isn't enough. Maybe if it was only 1/3 the sugar of fat coke and tasted significantly better than coke zero I'd consider it.

      • +7

I'm a recovering Coke addict was on about 2l a day I thought the green was near as good as the red. Shame it has gone nowhere, could maybe save 30% of dental bills for nearly same taste.
Agree though I'd like to see a full stevia diet coke.

        • +1

          2 litres a day?
          …2 LITRES???

        • +2

Same. I'd love to see a full stevia Coke. I didn't mind the green, but 30% isn't enough.
If these 'Zevia' guys can do it, I'm sure Coke could.

          @Draxxx:

I drink zevia all the time. It tastes like crap.

The way I see it, it's better than sugar or aspartame. Creaming soda is about the only one I enjoy.

        • @sabaramo:
I totally agree. I'm trying to avoid sugar and refuse to touch aspartame or other artificial sweeteners.
Good to know. Thanks. I tried the "Mountain Zevia" and it was a bit odd. I was hoping the cola would be good.
Where do you buy it? I've been looking for it everywhere..

        • -1

          @Draxxx:

nothing wrong with good ol' aspartame …or at least not that I remember

        • Never mind, apparently US Soda Makers Pledge 20 Percent Calorie Cut by 2025

          So they have you covered.

        • @Tiggrrrrr: Heh, so only about 200 grams of sugar per 2L bottle instead of 250 grams or so. Ah, nice to know they're looking out for the people!

        • +1

A few months ago I went to Coles to check out how much sugar is in a 2L bottle of coke (I too used to drink them basically daily). There's about 240 grams.

That's 1/4 of a kilogram! I then went to the sugar section to look at a 1kg bag of sugar to see how much 1/4 of that is and was… well not surprised yet shocked at the same time.

      • +3

The problem for me is a 30% cut isn't enough. If they cut by at least two thirds while retaining the same flavour I would begin to be impressed.

Coca Cola has tried in the past to cut sugar with limited success. I remember trying some C2 Coke in Japan. Half sugar, half artificial sweeteners, but it tasted strange and the sugar cut wasn't enough to compensate for the off flavour.

      • I heard an interview with CCA CEO or someone the other night. She said that the Coke company in the UK is going to lower the amount of sugar in Coke Life this year and that CCA will follow once they see the market response. I think it's only 1% of sales in Australia. I didn't really like it but you're right that there's a market for people who want a low calorie naturally sweetened drink vs. Coke Zero and Diet Coke.

        • +1

          Sugar isn't a natural sweetener?

        • +2

          @damoo:

          Seriously…

"low calorie naturally sweetened drink vs. Coke Zero and Diet Coke"

    • +2

It tastes fine, same with Pepsi next. Both go fine with alcohol like rum or scotch where the diet version taste awful.
I find them better tasting than the full sugar drinks.
What I would like is a coke/Pepsi with just half sugar, no Sylvia added to sweeten further, I want it just not as sweet.

      • +1

Yep I really wish they would do Coke 1/2 Strength. I will usually mix 50/50 Coke and Soda Water.

      • I find the taste of my coke is a bit weird with Sylvia in it. Especially if she hasn't showered.

  • Looks like life's been sucked out of Coke Life.

  • +1

    Wow.. Unbelievable price.

  • still not worth it….this stuff tastes pretty poor

    • -6

      Tastes worse than Coke Zero.

    • +1

I found it okay cold. Not as good as regular coke. Better tasting than diet coke.

However I can drink other coke at room temperature and found this to be horrible tasting at room temp.

  • wow…. at that price it may be cheaper to refine your own sugar from it

  • Life needs to get a life.

  • SoylentGreen like green soylently.

    • At least SoylentGreen is nutritional…

      • +1

Did you kick a puppy in public or something? You seem to have enemies. 4 neg votes for a nothing lighthearted comment… Maybe you should stop uploading your puppy-kicking videos to youtube for a while. Just until people forget.

        • +2

Negging jv is like a favourite pastime around here ;)

    • Dafuq?

  • +5

They are relaunching Coke Life shortly with a new flavour, based on customer feedback.. and even less sugar.

    • +7

Makes sense. It was pretty stupid to launch with too high carbs (sugar). For low carb diet, who hate artificial sweeteners, natural stevia is the better alternative - BUT needs less sugar.

    • +2

      indeed
If you are going to go sugar, go all out.. if you aren't, why buy this over diet or zero.. seems strange to think a 'half way' product would gain much market

      • +3

If the taste is fine then I think many people will switch from standard to slightly less sugar as it's not as much as a compromise as zero.

      • +4

Pepsi next gained over 5% of the market though.

        • And tastes fine I think.

        • +1

gained, or just took existing pepsi/pepsi max etc drinkers?

    • Are you a coke insider or is this just a guess?

      • +1

        Confirmed: http://www.smh.com.au/business/retail/cocacola-seeks-new-lif…

I'd give it another crack if it's more like 1/3 the sugar of normal coke, or less. At 2/3rds it wasn't worth the taste difference.

        • +4

Thanks for that. I didn't mind Life and was happy drinking it if it was cheaper than standard coke.

Hopefully they don't screw up the new formula - I have faith in Coke.

        • Interesting! I saw the Fuze drink on the weekend but didn't stop to buy it. Sounds interesting to give it a go at least once. But I can see how people would be MEH about coke life in general.

  • +8

if only you got coke rewards points from it!

  • +11

    cheaper than petrol per L

Can someone invent a car that runs on Coke life

    • and then post it at a bargain price on OzBargain

    • +2

It will be a bit like E10. You'll need proper coke to get proper mileage.

  • Look at the chart, actually still a lot of sugar with life.

    https://www.coca-cola.com.au/cokelife

  • +2

And yet, my manager continues to order it.

Ugh. Getting sick of marking them down and then chucking them. What a stupid venture this was.

Still, damn good deal if you're just gonna top it up with rum I suppose.

    • Curious, where do you work?

      • +12

Dont tell him, its a trap!

        • +4

The force is strong in this one!

  • Wow that's a great price

  • Probably good for cleaning stains off the driveway

    • Probably not. There are better ways to remove oil stains.

  • +5

Coke Death would be a better name

    • +7

So would Death Insurance, but we get the inference.

  • The best thing about this product, is that i got paid $10 to try it before it was released, i was under the impression that it was about half sugar/Sweetener

  • +2

drink water people ….all soft drinks are bad for you.

  • Not as god as Zero, but for a box why not.

  • Can anyone confirm if any stores in SA have any?

    • +5

You'd almost make all back in can refund lol.

      • when you get can refund, the drinks will be just 60 cents!

        Bargain!

        • I went to coles and they were discounted at 30%, maybe coles will start discounting further soon.

  • +1

man if this was everywhere I would buy all of it…..not bad , no after taste and my teeth would last 30% longer

    • +3

Probably not if you bought all of it…

  • +1

The tribe has spoken - pick either cancer or diabetes, instead of a half a$$ Coke.

  • +3

    i like vanilla coke

    • +4

      There's always one.

  • +2

I don't mind this version of coke and will drink it over any of the others if I feel inclined to drink it at all. So, it will be interesting to see what it's like when the flavour is tweaked again. I still think the Euro coke tastes better, tasted like it had less sugar in it and that was just the reg red one. Can't stand the diet versions of coke soo sweet.

    • I like it too and it was my preferred coke version to drink. I never liked the aftertaste from the diet versions.

  • Short of code I'm guessing.

  • +2

Proudly weaned myself of All Coke products (first Coke, then Zero) however I did try this out of curiosity when it was first released, and it tasted pretty terrible.

    • How's life working for you now, do you genuinely feel better off it? Or honestly not much different?
(Serious question from a Pepsi Max/Coke Zero addict)

      • +2

Not really, though I must admit it's much cheaper and my teeth will be better off in the long run. Plus it's better knowing I'm not consuming loads of weird chemicals that can easily be avoided. I didn't lose any weight surprisingly and I haven't magically felt better outwardly as a result. My innards probably do though however that's hard to assess. My recommendation, simply go cold turkey, you will have headaches from caffeine withdrawal for a few days which can be managed with Panadol and voila, a week later you are Coke free. The key is to never have it enter the house again. I no longer even look at it in the supermarket. Now, I swap Coke for fruit juice or water in any takeaway meal deals though I do cheat occasionally with a Frozen Coke from McD's (only on a really hot day) but figure that's not real Coke anyway, and it doesn't seem to launch any crazy cravings. Good luck!

ETA: Oh, and buy a SodaStream, sometimes it's the fizzy effect you miss, not the actually drink itself.

        • "Fruit" juice is almost just as bad with the amount of sugar in it. I think to actually benefit from no soft drink/ caffeine there seems to be a general rule of 1-3 months without it.

        • …Oh, and buy a SodaStream…

Now I know why they call you sparkles

        • @Bargainz: It wasn't the sugar that bothered me so much, it was all the phenylalanine plus the caffeine addiction was like a drug craving. Cutting back on sugar should be my next goal.

        • @shmahoo: :) And with the SodaStream you can make your drinks super dooper fizzy which is fun.

        • @Bargainz: I've probably been Coke free for 18 months+, still waiting for the magic to happen LOL. Figured I've probably saved at least $1000 in that time, so there's that. A couple of dollars a day does add up.

        • Soda water with fresh squeezed lime is the way to go. Add a bit of bitters to liven it up.

        • ooops, tripped up at the supermarket and bought a 30 pack of Pepsi Max cans. Maybe I'll give up next week

      • cut out soft drink for 3-6 months / replace with water and you definitely wont regret it
once you feel the benefits you probably wont resume…its also a good keystone for improving other areas of your diet

  • I don't like the green colour they chose

    • +1

Mold green! What were they thinking?

  • -7

why are people from other states plus voting this deal? it's only the one store, it's not worthy of this many votes unless it's national.

    • +12

So in your opinion, a deal is only vote worthy if it's available to you? Pretty greedy attitude.

    • +11

An item valued at $17 (bargain price) on special for $3 ANYWHERE in Australia is kinda up-vote worthy imo, even if it isn't available to you.

    • +9

Vote positive if you feel the deal itself is good. This encourages the poster to share more deals as they know it's appreciated.

I think your missing the whole point of OzB.

  • +1

Is it available at any woolworths in Brisbane?

  • It sounds good!

  • you guys know this still makes you fat right?

  • went into my local Woolworth in victoria. still full price got her to scan it just in case but it came up as 28 dollars. so it's not even on the 30 per cent or so these big boxes are usually discounted :(
