starting to get there but needs to be sub 150 for the performance model :D

good price, 10 bux cheaper than the next closest, these usually go over 200 bux.. a step in the correct direction.

  • How fast is this compared to the WD 2TB that netplus was selling on special for $199 a few weeks back?

    • Yes, I too wondered how this performs against the WD Green drive which has 64mnb cache.
      Anyone care to enlighten us?

  • delivery to NSW 2000 is $11 the cheapest option
    free for pickup i think
Pick Up Address: Unit 38/378 Parramatta Road, Homebush West, NSW 2140 $0.00

Size getting bigger by the day. Imagine if the disk crashed and you lose 2TB of data….

    • Get two. One for backup ;-)

    Good price.

Customer reviews indicate that it is cool-running, quiet and reliable, but not especially fast.

If you're trying anything tricky (RAID) make sure the firmware is up to date.

    $208+ elsewhere: http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=HD203WI+&spos=3

PC Meal also trade on eBay and have very few ratings from Whirlpool (1 good, 1 bad) http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/?tag=AusPC_NSW although, a couple of threads indicate dissatisfaction, this is not unusual and their eBay ratings are quite high: http://feedback.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&u…

    • very detailed :) Thank you!

  • nice! cant wait for itestate to start stocking this, then should be able to get this for $170-$175. current pricing for 1.5tb is $122 so by that math, equal price per gb would $162 and change. gettin there, gettin there

Great price but I had 4 Samsungs (including warranty replacements) die on me in a RAID array over less than year. Won't buy them again.

    • Unusual. Sure there weren't power problems in the setup shortening their life?

  • Very nice. I bought a 1tb hdd for $160 only a year ago. I don't think it will be long before 2tb hdd's are that price.

  • Oh no, I bought one last week at $210. One thing I can tell you is that this HDD is definitely cool and quiet. I use it as my media storage, so not sure about the performance. Good deal.

  • damn, defo could use 2 of these for my NAS device, the 2x1 tb are full now, no cash atm, soon tho

    • Don't worry, at this rate, by the time you have the cash hopefully this will be the same price as a 1TB :D here's hoping.

  • Great deal for those looking for the convenience of a 2tb drives since they offer free pickup and also have no credit card surcharge. However, I bought the 1.5tb WD they also have on sale for $119.95 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/23361 since the per gig ratio is at 0.08c and I prefer WD drive and it also has a 64mb cache whatever that is LOL…
I pick up since I live only 8 mins away and they have been very easy to deal with :P
Hopefully their after sales service is good since I have to return another item I bought for a refund since it had a "non documented limitation" which severely cripples its usefulness. Will let you guys know how it goes.

  • is samsung a better brand than WD or seagate? I generally use seagate

    • There is no "better" with HDD's as everyone will give you their "opinion" on what's best but I will say Samsung have been extremely reliable for me where as WD tend to have the occasional bad batch released into their range from time to time (not saying their 2TB is amongst them) where as Samsung tend to just be more reliable across the board. All I can say is I've had a number of them RAIDed over the years without 1 fail. If you google reviews you'll find someone in USA with 200 Samsungs in various raid arrays claiming fail rates almost zero. They are pretty good in my "opinion"

I haven't gone near Seagate since their 1TB brick issues but I'm sure they're fine now. I think firmware fixed most of that.

These samsungs are faster than the WD 64MB Cached counterparts also if that matters to anyone. I'm considering getting some (4) but they do use slightly more power. The most energy efficient to my knowledge are the WD's. However we're talking ~1watt each different.

  • I can report as of now they have 25 units left. Or 19 after the 6 I just purchased :)

  • I sure hope these work in my Highpoint 2340 RAID card. I'm using the 1TB versions fine and I know the Samsung 1.5TB work despite not being in the compatibility list.

    UPDATE:
In case anyone stumbles upon this deal in the future, I can confirm these drives DO work with Highpoint 23xx cards and therefore should also work with 3xxx and 4xxx series cards.
