Sweet, these guys have good prices, so with 25% to 80% off there should be some real bargains in th…

Discounts applied to publisher's RRP price

    Oh.

    Well maybe there'll still be a few OK-ish deals…

    • +2

Depends on what the deals are. Big W has a standing 35% off rrp (i think thats amount) for new titles. Not sure what QBD discounts are like generally….

I clicked on their link through the facebook page and for some reason it loaded up the mobile site and looked AWFUL on my desktop, so just a heads up that if you think the website was created by an 8 year old, try clicking on "desktop website".

Thanks, we saw this post last night and fixed the problem shortly after. ^SM

Checked the book I want. 30 Dollars above other retailers normally.

    • +1

They jacked up the price before the sale, quick someone report them to ACCC!

    • Which book?

  • Just in time for uni

  • Be interesting to see if there are any bargains, they are usually more expensive than other online stores. I just hope its not 3% @ 80% off.

    • Might be a good time for something like this

      • if it's under $43ish like other online book stores then yeah

        • Yeah well 25% off $59.99 is $45, so at the very least it's a similar price to places like Book Depository, which ship from the UK

        • @Spackbace:

          So yeah, $44.99 delivered :P

Definitely goes under education & non-fiction. The attack on New York…that was real.

      • I am sure I got this and the DC encyclopedia from QBD in their 2 for $50 sale around Christmas.

      • There's some pretty good Marvel and DC books for around $20.

  • +2

Would be good for popular penguins books since they don't get discounted much

  • Marie Kondo's The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying is currently $29.99 in paperback. Let's see how much it will go for tomorrow. Cheapest on Booko is $17.45 shipped.

  • any manga?

  • +1

I've taken note of five items I'm interested in that are already discounted a fair bit. Will post results.

    • +1

The only item that is cheaper is the one that wasn't on sale at all, and it's $3.25 off. Wow, such sale.

  • +1

Was looking to pick up 10 issues of manga here but depository is still cheaper (QBD sale has started).

    • +1

yep, nothing that was cheaper for the stuff I read

  • +1

How can you search by price?

    • +1

The new website doesn't seem to have any sorting/filtering functionality. :/

  • +6

Navigation is very limited on the new website. I've had to resort to going to the sitemap to find what I want, specifically, bargains.

    e.g. All clearance cookbooks

These were on sale before today at the same price, but they are still a steal. I have both and would recommend them.

    • Their website is and has been a shambles. Fr example, you go to the celebrity chefs section and they show handful when they have hundred. They don't seem to have a "show all" functionality.

Is that Summer Food book from the Bathers Pavilion at Balmoral Beach? Do you know? Thanks

      • Yes Serge Dansereau is the man behind Bather's Pavillion and it's the same book as the one on their restaurant website (no direct link)

        • Great thanks.

    • +1

@moocher and @voteoften - Thanks for pointing that out. Filtering and Show All will be fixed shortly. ^SM

I haven't read it yet (it's on the list), but The Name Of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss is supposed to be an excellent read: https://www.qbd.com.au/the-name-of-the-wind/patrick-rothfuss…

According to Booko it's the cheapest at the moment at $11.21.

Best novel of the last decade.

      • Personally I thought it was mediocre, and the sequel was so awful I struggled to get through it in parts.

      • +2

I like being told what to read. Bought it, thanks!

    • +2

Been my favourite book since I read it almost 10 years ago, highly recommend! The hardcover one is showing up as $15 if anyone prefers that. Going to buy a few to gift to people. Thank you, niters!

      • +1

        My pleasure!

  • I think the site has now crashed (due to traffic?)

    • Yes, i cant access now, gosh

      • +2

        Yep, can't connect either.
80% off their website capacity too?

        • More like 25%.

      • Can confirm that there was no crash. Looks to have been a network interruption between 8:50 and 9:00 AEST ^SM

  • +1

The particular book I wanted only had 25% applied, making it still $80 more expensive than the cheapest on booko, with 15 other retailers still having their price cheaper…
    Definitely shop around.

Looks like only a deal if you're lucky enough to want something that's like 80% off.

Also issues with checking out. For any rep reading:

    • Expiry date text for CC reads "MM/YY" but the template really wants "MM/YYYY"
    • Unchecking box and adding separate billing/shipping address does nothing - as once you get to confirmation page it lists shipping address "same as billing address"
    • Confirmation appears to throw you back to the original checkout page - I'm not even sure my order went through. I didn't see a confirmation of order page, and am just waiting a little to see if I get a confirmation e-mail
    • +1

Edit - got the confirmation e-mail. took 5-10 min

      • +1

        Thanks for your feedback.

        • Expiry date should automatically adjust the year, "17" will change to "2017", but it won't adjust "20" to "2020". We've changed the place holder text to reflect the full year.
        • Separate Billing / Shipping addresses showing as "Same as billing address" fixed.
        • We are unable to replicate this issue, but will attempt to monitor it.
        • Sorry about the delay with the email, mail was a little sluggish this morning :/

        Thanks again ^SM

  • Oh I found that A New Earth @ $10 is a good price!

  • price is good for pre-order books.
    I'm looking at https://www.qbd.com.au/deaths-end/liu-cixin/9781784971649/

  • Looking to get Adventures of TinTin, but seems all out of stock :(
