Woolworths Mobile - Samsung S5 16GB - $38/Month (24 Mth Plan) - $1000 Credit, 1GB Data, Unlim TXT

130

I was planning to buy a Samsung Galaxy S5/S6/S7. Would like to know opinion of people on this forum regarding this deal. This looks like good value as there is no great difference between S7 and S5, and S6 dont have expandable memory, has lower battery life and not water resistant.
I'm on telstra prepaid and paying $30/mo.

    No difference between S5 & S7, LOL!!!
They're both capable phones but for most people you're far better off with a Chinese brand phone with decent specs than a 3 year old Samsung

      Chinese phone you reckon?

      Good luck with warranty issues…

      • and spyware…

    • According to gsmarean: S5 Released 2014, April

      not even 2 years.

How do you go buying accessories (cases, screen protectors, batteries) for Chinese brand phones ?

    • not many chinese phones that have 700mhz 4G support, or some of the other bands we have in Australia, or are water proof. I have the S5 and it's a great phone, and often less than $400.

For my 9 year old I bought a Xioami Redmi note2 ….. he likes phablets …. for $200 it's a great phone, but it's not waterproof and doesn't supports all our 4G bands.

As with the other post, you don't get 4G, which cripples the phone

1GB is more your limiting factor.

      • I reckon Spackbace's looks are their limiting factor, to be honest

    • I wouldn't want to cripple the battery life.

    • $7/month more for 100mb more data/month, unlimited calls, and faster on Optus 4G, but will have less coverage than this deal on Telstra 3G.

      • Coverage isn't too much of a deal between the 2 now. Recently went on holiday in country WA, and between Virgin and Telstra the coverage was just fine.

Was really just offering an alternative plan on a 4G provider on the same phone

    • how is that deal better?

      • It's an alternative on the same phone with a 4G provider

  • I got a Samsung s5 from the aliexpress deal that was posted a while back. Surprisingly it's the real deal.

I reckon the S5 had good features for the price. I am liking it so far.

    • Just out of curiousity, how much did you pick that up for?

Been on the look out for an s5 deal ever since I missed out on the HN $397 deal around christmas.. :/

It was $273 for a reconditioned model which is probably not as good a deal HN one. Howwver the condition is excellent and they sent me a 32gb model instead of a 16gb one.

    • I have the S5 and haven't found a compelling feature in a new phone to make me upgrade ….. maybe screen size, but that's it ….. I have a feeling I will be using the S5 until it breaks unless something "innovative" or "disruptive" comes out …… by then the S7 will be $400.

      • I went from a Sony Z2 to the S5 at the price point there isn't a reason to really spend way more on a phone.

  • I have just signed up with them as I think the Samsung S5 is a more than capable phone for everyday use with a little gaming on the side.

Yes can buy a phone around $400 but it works well on the Telstra network in Perth. It is better than the optus network at work where it dropped out sometimes even though I work 15min train from city centre.

Yes the S7 just came out but if looking for a mid range phone it is more than does the job and the phone last about a day with medium to heavy use.

Woolworths is working to have 4G in the next couple of months but who really needs the speed as I am not streaming movies on my phone. I use it for mainly emails and some simple surfing.

  • If you root the S5 and install Cyanogenmod, the phone completely transforms into a modern day nexus with expandable storage at a great price

    • problem is if you root the phone then no more OTA updates and it voids the warranty …. so depends if you are an enthusiast and like tinkering, preffer the warranty, or just a phone user (I have become just a user who likes warranty and waits for OTA updates). Samsung also announced Android 6 for the S5 …. so just enjoy it and wait for the OTA update. Maybe root it when Android 7 comes out, warranty has expired and Samsung stop support for new Android versions of the S5.

  • Does anyone know if this phone has any branding on it? Would be helpful if I could see the box.

No branding at all just 4G on the back cover, as for the software i dont see any woolworths/telstra branded apps and its unlocked out of the box i chucked in a optus sim and off it goes.
