  • cheers, grabbed tickets for myself and the missus

  • Strange movie in many ways. Almost offensive as far as credibility goes but if you can ignore that you might enjoy it more. Worth every penny of a free ticket for the scenery though. 5/10

Acting was good but the movie was a draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggg.

Yeh had me looking at my watch a few times, never a good sign. Hardy was good, DiCaprio has been better, in much better movies. Not a movie which stretches actors though.

        • Considering what DiCaprio's character did for the majority of the movie… you can't really blame his acting.

I mean there is only so much a person in that situation can do.

        • @ProjectZero:

          dragging his feet? hehehe

@ProjectZero: Agreed. Top marks for the grunting. His ability to keep a straight face as the bear humped him is probably worth an oscar on its own. Pointless direction, weak script and a story line which was totally incredible made it a forgettable film all round.

@Possumbly: Surely would have been digital so all he had to do was lie there and take it ;P

        • @Neilgero: All i remember was him hallucinating alot…

        • @ProjectZero: yes it was a tongue in cheek comment about the poor cgi.

        • @Possumbly: Lol I know, it wasn't me that neg'd ya

        • -2

@ProjectZero: not worried about the negs. Movie is what it is. Extremely poor direction and editing didn't help. Even my easily pleased daughter was bemused. Mediocre film apart from the scenery. In another maker's hands could have been quite good.

I thought it was fantastic, although it's not a movie I feel the need to go back and watch again and again.

Direction was great. Acting was great. Cinematography was great.

      • Yeah I feel ya. I wasn't bored but I would be if I watched it again anytime soon.
However, as you said, the cinematography blew me away. My mate commented that they spent too long lingering on these wide landscape shots but I did not mind one bit. The use of only natural lighting in the filming was amazing as well.
I will buy it on bluray just as a nature doco haha.

Haha yeah it was beautiful. Especially seeing as it was projected in 4K. I went to a hoyts xtremescreen session and sat super towards the front of the cinema. So beautiful!

Agree that it was not a bad movie. Though my friends hated it and fell asleep.

People who tend to mostly watch entertaining or action packed movies won't like this. It does drag on quite a bit but it adds to the "perseverance" theme of the movie lol.

        sorry, may you…

  • not the best movie, seems like it was well received by american audiences, not many australians would enjoy this one but still a freebie!

    • The movie was pretty middling. Not bad or anything, a solid film, just not particularly great or memorable.

Hugh Glass, the dude the movie is based on, is genuinely fascinating though. While most stories about him are quite possibly apocryphal as a lot of the events were witnessed only by him and people warp stories over time and retellings, this podcast has a more accurate and much more entertaining take on it (it's a comedy/history podcast): http://thedollop.libsyn.com/dollop-x-hugh-glass

  • Acting was fantastic - Hardy and the Bear rate special mentions.

  • Argh no I missed out, anyone can't make it, please think of me!
