Xbox One just died after 14 months :/

Hi guys as I just mentioned my Xbox One has just died after 14 months due to a number of different issues including the fan, power button, controller sync button and now a wireless hardware problem :/. Anyway my question regards the Australian Consumer law and my right to expect a decent lifespan from the console. I know there was talk recently about some of DSE's TV's and how consumers may still be entitled to a warranty after the standard 12 month period ends and I was wondering if that is similar to the issue I'm having with my console ?. Many thanks in advance and regards,
Tas.

Short answer "yes" but go read up on what you may or may not be entitled to seek using below.

As always stick to what's down as law and you should have no issues.

    • Awesome dude, thanks for the advice :)

  • It might also be worthwhile to complain on social media such as facebook and twitter. Easier for them to fix the issue than deal with bad publicity.

Have you checked your warranty with XBOX ?
I bought an xbox one DAY one edition when it was released in November
but it failed after one year
When I went online and registered it
The registration site said it was still under warranty , I think its 24 months

Anyway go online and register it and see if you can claim a repair.

If its under warranty then they give you a label and instructions to take it to Australia post
and they will box it up for you and cover the shipping

Microsoft are pretty good to there customers. Id try them first before thinking the worst

Hi ode that's legendary, I called Microsoft like you suggested and after registering the console the lady informed me that it is indeed a 24 month replacement warranty :). Anyway they're sending me out a return label and hopefully it's only a week or two before the new one arrives. Thanks again for the great advice, I was under the impression it was only covered for 12 months (as stated by Microsoft) so it's a massive relief not to be out of pocket for the price of a new console.

        Great news
        NO worries
I registered mine online with my xbox live account and I was relieved when it happened to me also.
        I'm glad it worked out
PS when I went through my failure they sent an email to say the repair was submitted
but then it took a few days for a label to be emailed so don't stress.
You will get ANOTHER console in a week or so and if you look at the SERIAL it will say its a REPAIRED unit. I think its a NEW case with repaired xbox inside
        cheers

        • Oh ok that makes sense I was wondering what they do with the old Xbox's if they're just replacing the faulty ones, I'm guessing the warranty doesn't reset then if it's a repaired unit, fingers crossed they're still sending out reliable consoles.

That is actually illegal unless they specifically state that you will be receiving a refurbished unit (from what I can recall anyway…)

    • i bought a used xbox on ebay with segate 8 tb hard drive for 480 aud, and had the xbox replaced under warrenty (warrenty appeared to be of like 5 years, expiring on 7/1/2020, and thus got a serviced (serviced 23/9/2019) xbox one x from microsoft (with no scratches so i believe very good like new used condition).

My surface book showed a 2 year warrenty on microsoft devices page, (even though the retailer whom i bought from JB hifi and microsoft say warrenty is 1 year), still its under manufacturer's warrenty after 1 year.

So that's why i really like microsoft. To be honest my advice if you gonna buy a new one, buy from microsoft offically then, buying from shitty aussie brands like JB or harvey norman or EB games, or something, you are just gonna get a better customer experience i think.

Although 2nd hand little used ones on marketplace/ gumtree/ ebay auctions have the best bank for buck.

  • If you are apart of the preview program you get a longer warranty. But if not I world still claim under the consumer law consoles should last longer than 14 months

    • Hi there I was reading that to. I was hoping I could even sign up and see if that applied to already bought consoles. Anyway all sorted now, it seems Microsoft offer 24 months on Aussie bought consoles as long as they're registered.

Yeah my Xbox is covered until 2018. Bought it last year. Xbox has a very generous warranty.

I agree, I've always found Microsoft easy to deal with to.
