Recommended Hotel or Area in Seoul for 16 Hour Stop over

My wife will be travelling to Canada in December for a uni placement. The cheapest flight has her going via Seoul on Korean Airlines (cheapest by a long shot). The return flight is great as she only has 3 hours in the airport however going there she will have a 16 hour stop over. So a good amount of time for her to check out the place for a few hours and get some shut eye.

Can anyone recommend a hotel (3-5 star) or a good area for her to stay in where she will be able to go out, have a wander and get some food?

I assume there's a train running from the airport, so probably something along the train line would get good.

We stayed here for 10 days about 2 weeks ago. In gangnam, lots to eat and see in the area, train station a short walk. Very nice apartments and the prices are cheeap.

    • How long would it take to get there from the airport? Google Maps is saying 1hr 44min by bus.

  • just check with Korean Air, if it's a force compulsory stopover, STPC (Stopover Paid by Carrier) should be provided, ie transfer to/from overnight hotel and also meals included.

  • Stay at Ibis Myeongdong - airport bus stops right in front of the hotel and it is the 'happening' place in Seoul with lots of food and shopping!!! You can also stay at Skypark Myeongdong III, bus stops right in front. Many hotels are near the bus stops but these 2 are quite cheap and stops are right in front. This one has the metro station right in front of it too. Airport limo is 10,000 won if I remember correctly. Bus is the easiest way especially if you have luggage.
