    Good to see they have increased the price difference between the 1TB version from $2 to $28.

    Thanks TRENT86, it should be noted that the Toshiba 1TB Canvio USB3.0 Portable Hard Drive is $77.00.

    • Yeah usual price these days :)

    • I was surprised how the 1TB was only a bit more than the 500GB. Too bad we can no longer find 250GB and 320GB portable drives around nowadays.

  • Ooooh, a cheap hard drive for the Xbox 360/Wii U/Wii Homebrew!

  • can these be pulled out and used somewhere else (standard esata connection)?

      if you can desolder the drive from the board I think you can use it…

      they dont make them anymore like they used to (normal drive in enclosure) now its all soldered in

        since when?

        It varies from model to model.

        Some of the uber cheap/nast ones are soldered, but most I've come across aren't.

          what are you gonna do with this then buddy? if you even know what that is you're looking at

          and here is a closer look at a WD Passport, https://imgur.com/a/k3QUd

          (hardly call Toshiba and WD uber cheap/nasty)

          @Makoto:

          Get off your high horse mate.

          I've probably torn apart more externals than you've ever seen in your life.

          Can you confirm that this model is 100% a board-soldered drive?

          you can't tell people that only cheap nasty portable drives are soldered and then say you know better because you've torn more apart than anyone else in their lifetime.

          I posted a picture of the drive, you take out of that what you will

          @Makoto:

          You think Toshiba and WD Password aren't cheap nasty externals?

          You said that Imgur pic you linked was from a WD passport. Might want to re-read the title pal.

          @shawnsmaggot:

          and here is a closer look at a WD Passport,

          the first picture is a toshiba, you can see it in the picture! I even wrote "if you dont know what you're looking at" because it explains itself!

          not my fault you cant read properly

        • @Makoto:

          I suspect it's this model which isn't soldered. Here's a teardown.

          People shouldn't get so damned personal and hit downvote so emotionally.

        • @Makoto:

          Yes, it is a Toshiba.

          Are you trying to imply that ALL Toshiba external models are the same?

          Please, just stop. You have no idea what you are talking about.

  • Is this ok for xb1

    • +1

      Yes any external USB hard drive is fine for xb1

      • USB3 *

    • +1

      yes, i have it

    Wouldn't touch it, the one I had crashed so hard when I finally managed to pull the data off it all I could recover was this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIbcqgXh5-4

    it also has 3 yr warranty

  • When people will buy one brand over another based on a couple of bucks difference, you can understand manufactures trying to cut costs by making an all in one usb3 drive instead of a sata with a plug in board. Also allows them to make them smaller and lower power consumption. The pressures of trying to standout in the market place with cheapest smallest lowest power consumption usb 3 drive vs catering for enthusiast who just want the cheapest sata drive. With more people getting laptops I can see the appeal to focus marketing on external drives rather than the enthusiast market which wants to be able to crack it open and get the drive out. So I wouldn't be surprised if they had batch variations between all in one or plug in board, just like they do some externals having green drives and some NAS depending on batches.

  • How reliable are these? Never had a Toshiba drive, but I'm only going to use it to store movies/games.

    • Don't ever treat any drive as reliable. Buy 2 different brands if your data is important. 3 with one of them stored off-site if it's really important.

  • Do these just need one USB port? I am not after the external hard drives that use two USB ports..
