    sigh

I started typing this up and checked to see if anyone had posted it before submitting just to see this. Welp.

    • +1

      Sorry

      • +3

It's okay. I wish there was a better system in place to allow for contributors to not waste their time for popular deal types.

        • +5

I agree. I think the fact that the more than one person wants to post it should give the post greater weighting. That being said I normally do not post HB anymore as there are always people who "complain" about the bundle not being original enough or having games that were already included. Just posted today's bundle as it was Star Wars - curious to see how well it is received given that some of the games were in a previous bundle already.

I wish this precedent was followed up afterwards; back in 2014 when the Steam Winter Sale started, two users posted within a few minutes of each other. The first user literally posted "Steam Winter Sale" as the title and "Link to the side" as the post content. The second user detailed his title and filled out the deal with graphs and tables with Featured Deals, Flash Sales, etc. The OzBargain community petitioned the mods to let the second post be the "original" as the first user put in zero effort into his post. It worked. It looked like there was a set precedent for this sort of thing.

But then it happened again (sorta). I spent 20+ minutes typing up the 2015 Winter Sale with sh!t loads of detailed just to be beaten by this effortless piece of Jar-Jar Binks. It seems the mods let it stick around because he kept "adding" content to it as the morning progresses. He basically submitted a blank deal then took his sweet time editing it with deals. Pretty annoying when people like me take the time and effort to make detailed deals just to be outdone by someone who puts in zero effort. /rant over

        • @Lysander: weighting, I guess that's what up voting does

        • +1

          @pensionday:

True but many people do not see deals unless they are on the front age. I know I often forget to check and I am sure other people do too. Because of that the weighting could be a bit distorted in my humble (!) opinion.
Anyway, that is really a first world problem, so not really too serious and relevant. ;-)

          @Dagmar:

I understand where you are coming from as it has happened to be many times but I also think that sometimes people overdo their posts and that people here are a bit too demanding.

Example: if you list the games in a deal that should be sufficient. Not so, some people scream for the links to the Steam store which I am happy to supply if I have time but won't if I am in a hurry (and sometimes time is of the essence as has been demonstrated recently by some freebie game deals which were over fairly quick).
I believe (or rather I would like to believe) that we are all adults and do NOT need to be spoon-fed.
If a person is interested in something, including a game, that person can put in the effort to find out about it himself or herself - that is my opinion. I find it sad if a seven year old does this as if it the most normal thing in the world and yet here sometimes some adults complain about those links not being there (or the ratings or something else which they expect) so they do not have to put in any effort to look it up themselves.

No system is perfect. If this happens to you a lot then maybe try to be a bit shorter and less detailed (just put the essentials in) so it takes less time to type and submit. Only put what what is "nice to have" but not what is "need to have".

        • +1

@Dagmar: I agree that it's annoying, but beat them to the punch by submitting the minimum required initially with a note that you're working on updating the deal, check back in 15 mins or whatever.

        • +3

          @Adamiam:

And also, keep in mind it is not a competition. As long as the deal is posted so everyone can benefit from it everyone should be happy.
It is not like you get paid per post. ;-)

        • @Lysander:

Only put what what is "nice to have" but not what is "need to have".

If the user had posted the Featured Deals, it would have been completely different, but no effort was put into it. I believe in submitting completed deals (to the best of my ability at the time).

        • @Dagmar:

I wish the government had your work ethic, especially when they pass laws that are so incomplete, confusing and inconsistent that its own public servants do not know what is going on and cannot deal with the conditions and consequences of such laws.
As I said, I am happy with what is a "need to have" and also believe that things should not be so super regulated here - after all posting here is a "hobby" (other than for the people working at OB) which should not be taken too seriously. This is how it started and that is the spirit that should be kept I believe.

        • @Dagmar:

I believe in submitting completed deals (to the best of my ability at the time).

I can see your reasoning here. But having thought about it, I wonder if submitting a very short deal, then adding detail later, might actually be the best way to do it, especially for well-known stuff multiple people might be working on.

That way nobody wastes time duplicating effort. If you want to submit links to various deals in a table, you can do it in the comments. And nobody has to spend an hour on it, only to find someone else beat them to it.

          Doesn't this make more sense?

        • Anyone can set an alarm for the weekly/monthly humble bundle and post it, it's not like you spent hours scouring the net for a deal. If you want to play the post count game, this is how it works. People that support humble bundles are already on their mailing list in any case so you could have hundreds of people competing to post the deal if we all wanted to play, lucky we don't.

        • @robbiejuve: You're missing the point. I realise the Humble Bundle is widely known. The issue here is that there's no system in place to assist users in notifying that someone else may potentially be working on the same deal. If OzBargain had a way of alerting posters that someone is working on the same deal as them then I would have no problem but instead you either have to hope no one else is working on the same deal as you or post a placeholder post as Lysander did when I was creating a detailed post myself.

This isn't an ego contest for me. I just want the system to be more user friendly so situations like this don't happen.

        • @Eon-Rider:

To be honest, given how widely HB is known and how it works, I would simply consider a post to be stating the name of the current bundle and the link to it sufficient. At most, a list of games but the links to each game on store and a detailed info about the tiers are pure luxury.

Also, keep in mind that people like me sometimes post things have way through due to a shonky internet connection. If I got a dollar for every time I was writing a detailed deal and then lost it because my internet connection was lost I would be richer than Gina Rhinehart and Malcolm Turnbull together.
And trust me, this is very frustrating too.
And as I said, what you experienced happens to me on a weekly basis, sometimes about 5 times a week. I am still alive and kicking though. ;-)
So please accept my apology if I was the reason your effort was wasted - it was not my intention cause you to waste your effort.

    • +2

excuse my ignorance, but what do you get from submitting deals on this site? (not trying to be catty, just genuinely wondering if there's some sort of benefit i don't know about…)

      • +1

Not much. You get badges for meeting certain criteria but it's mainly for the satisfaction that you've helped others out. It's just annoying when you've put up to 10 minutes of effort in just to see that someone else has done the same and hit the submit button before you.

One of my first pieces of software was a game file editor for X-Wing. The stats for which battles you had completed were just located in fixed binary fields in the file. At the time I was a kid and had no idea how to open a file for random access or map to memory so I simply read in the whole file, and wrote it back out to another file with the values modified based on answers to some questions. I worked out the fields by trial and error. This was for the DOS verison. I never went much further than that with game "hacking" but boy does that bring back fond memories.

  • +4

Hot diggity! This includes just about all the games that isn't in that Steam Star Wars Bundle from a few years back.

Keen to play Rebellion again, used to love that game. Tie Fighter is still the best game ever, of course.

        Emperor's Hand checking in…

    • +1

Yep, this the first ive seen including Rebelllion, my disc is long since deteriorated. played against a mate one on one with it about 15 years ago, not sure if anyone will be keen these days.

  • Anyone know if you get individual codes for each GAME or TIER? I already have some of those games from the last SW HB so may as well give the games I have to my bro.

    • +2

      Individual keys for each game.

      • Thanks mate. Good to know.

  • Does anyone know which version of X-Wing and TIE Fighter you get with Steam? I've been tempted to get the GOG version as purchasing there gets you the original version, the DOS CD version, and the Collector's Edition as 3 separate downloads.

    • I bought them on GOG previously for that reason and Steam reviews indicate that it doesn't include all versions.

  • Wow these are some ancient games. Not sure if its worth $1 to destroy my childhood memories by seeing how bad the graphics were in the games I grew up with haha.

    • i cant wait to go on a death star rampage in Rebellion

  • +4

where is jedi knight II? the best game ever.

    • Was in the first bundle

    • Agree. Before they patched it: force drain, grip, ledge drop.

  • This brings back memories, X-Wing was a fantastic game. Thanks OP.

  • Oh. My. God. Jizzzzzzzzz

These all work on Windows 7 and Windows 10?

    • +2

      Example: Star Wars Rebellion

      From Steam page:

      System Requirements

      Minimum:
          OS: Windows XP/Vista/7/8
          Processor: 1.8 GHz Processor
          Memory: 1 GB RAM
Graphics: 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 7 (compatible with DirectX 9 recommended)
          DirectX: Version 7.0
          Storage: 611 MB available space

I assume the others are similar. And apparently, for Star Wars Rebellion the Steam version is better than the GOG version as it has bugs fixed (source: comments on Steam)

      • Cheers. I am more interested in the Flight Sims..

        • Click on the links for the games you are interested in above - it should tell you if it is good for Windows 7 and 8. As far as I can tell they all state that Windows 7 and 8 are fine. So I assume 10 would be fine, too at least in compatibility mode.

        • Yeah i tried couldnt see it, anyway, bought bundle 2… see how we go :) Cheers

        • +1

          @Xizor:

I checked the flight games: they all show: Windows XP/Vista/7/8

You have to scroll down a bit.

  • Uh oh. My mouse is going to wear out again with the constant scrolling! Time to invest in a flight stick me thinks. Wonder if it will work with Tie Fighter or X-Wing?

    • Wow, I have never had a mouse wear out. You must be doing some serious scrolling! ;-)

    • I'm looking at what flight stick I should buy too. Any suggestions?

      • From reviews, the Saitek x52 seems to be the cheapest but poorly built. The x55 seems bit better but pricier. The ultimate one to get is the Thrustmaster Warthog.

    • Cleaning the mouse before each session was a must. I wonder if I can get a game port to usb adapter for my Microsoft sidewinder…?

      • Mouse lint? He he.

Thanks for helping me spend more money on games I'll never play, OP.

    • You are welcome! Any time. :-)

  • Hm. What to do. I only want Lego Star Wars. I guess I could get Kotor on steam. Is it worth $10 though when Lego should discount to $6 sooner or later… (PS: I HATE space-sim games)

    • +2

Don't be Hatin'! That's how Anakin became Vader 😂

    • I am happy to have the X-Wing, Tie Fighter and KOTOR2 games in Tier 2 if you want to give them away - the kids will be happy. ;-)
You could just give the other games you do not want to OB members - just do not post any Steam codes openly but do it via PM as otherwise Steam code vultures who are not OB members will simply take them.

    • Should have gone halvies with you. I have Lego Star Wars on Wii and KOTOR on Steam. Maybe we should work things out. I've already bought the bundle.

PM me. If more than two people want it I will draw two names from at around 8pm tonight to make it fair for those people who are still at work and give them a chance to.

    • Who won?

      • +1

Two users from OB who PMed me within 1 day of posting this also on the classifieds under freebies.

  • Think I have all I want, already! :(

  • Hopefully we get Mysteries of the Sith in the bonus games. That didn't come with the last Star Wars Humble Bundle and looks to be last of the old school star wars games I don't have on steam.

Wish Star Wars Racer was on steam… that was actually quite fun.
