Lawn mower for a 1,000sqm block

Hi all,

I'm currently in the market for a lawn mower for a block of approx 1,000 sqm. It will be operated by my parents who are in their late 50's so I would appreciate something light and powerful (if something like that exists).

Any suggestions welcome!

Thanks in advance.

  • Is it flat?
If so, Honda make some self propelled mowers that my older Dad said were quite good for his 750m2 block. He gave up a couple of years ago and just gets a bloke in these days, but he is 20 years older than your parents.
They are too heavy to hump up and down steps/different levels, however.

    • The lawns are very flat and quite rectangular so it makes it fairly easy to mow. The only issue is the sheer size and the frequency of mowing during summer. I will look into the Hondas. Thank you!

  • How big is the house? Some houses are so big that there is very little lawn. +1 for Honda.

    • Excluding the house, I'd say it's approx 700 sqm of total lawn including the nature strip.

      • That is a lot of lawn.

  • +1

you need a ride on !!

    • I'd love one! Shame about the cost though.

4 blades, mulching option, 190cc Subaru engine. Abundant power.

    • I noticed that one has a cutting width of 460mm, do you think it's a good idea to go for a wider one?

      • No. Generally, wider means less manoeuverable. My block is nearly the same as your parents'.

  • What do you guys think of mowers with mulching option? Seems very convenient. My concern is with weeds. The mulcher would spread the seeds from the weeds, while a catcher would remove the seeds.
