Well, I Got some Far Cry Games on Uplay, I just don't Understand What is so bad about Uplay DRM, can somebody Explain

        • +7

There really isn't anything wrong with Uplay… it is because most people already have steam that's why people say Uplay is crap, it is more the fact that it is another DRM software they have to install which is an annoyance and not due to Uplay DRM.

        • +1

i dont get it, so people are happy to use steam drm but not uplay drm?

not to mention the fact that if EVERY game always came out on steam then steam would have the ability to jack their profits up costing us even more because of the lack of competition.

          @nosdan:

          Ahhh, NO.

Have you not heard of supply and demand? There are 10,000+ games on Steam. 10,000 games go on sale at the same time. Survival of the fittest (or cheapest) buddy

        • apparently the mods get angry when i call someone a complete (profanity) moron, so i will refrain…

instead i will calmly inform you that you seem to completely fail at supply and demand logic as well as survival of the fittest (or cheapest as you say)… while both of those things are very real, when demand increases, say because competition from an opposing supply line dwindles, prices always rise. in a world where steam was the only DRM engine available they could/would then increase their prices and limit their sales simply because they no longer need to entice customers. capisce?

          @nosdan:

STEAM DOESN'T SET THE PRICES. PLEASE GET THAT IN YOUR HEAD. THE PRICES ARE SET BY THE PUBLISHERS OF EACH AND EVERY GAME.

        • @Neo: Gee Neo no need to holler. Next you'll be suggesting that the farmers set the price and not the supermarket.

        • @Neo: so mister know it all… how does steam make their money then?

        • @nosdan:

They take a percentage of every sale. Whether it's a 9c game or 89.99, there is a cut

        • +1

@Neo: and yet you still cant work out how, if steam was teh only drm platform…. that prices would rise?

        • @nosdan:

Yes, but that works both ways.

If the publisher 1) owns the developer 2) Has their own DRM platform 3) Makes the title exclusive to their platform

Then it's the same setup, except you are more likely to have consistently higher prices on a DRM platform like Origin (maybe Ubi - don't use them, so don't know) than steam if a game is exclusive.

If it is NOT an exclusive, you are exactly right - the more competition the better.

PS: Bricks and mortar stores help a lot in keeping steamworks games at more honest prices (although steam is still often stupid pricing).

Love your avatar by the way!!
A few reasons come to mind for Uplay for me, first off even when you buy steam Ubisoft games, clicking on the game opens Uplay which then opens the game. In cases like this Uplay is unneeded but forced onto the user, this creates a lot of hate by users who just want to play a game without being forced onto an application. So even if the application itself is okay, the way its used and forced onto users is honestly annoying.
Secondly there have been reports of Uplay having save issues, people with save files missing, or completely gone which adds fuel to the hate train.
Thirdly a lot of people do NOT like Ubisoft, I for one have grown to really dislike their business practices and feel its a shame that they can capitalize on such great developers but have little care for their customers (especially in terms of hurting them with excess DRM).

Its funny because the application itself isn't "that" bad, but when you already have Steam, and possibly Origin, Uplay sticks out like an unneeded sore thumb for a lot of people.

I will note this is a personal opinion, some people actually like Uplay and they usually have cheaper prices compared to Steam (likely because of the cut Steam gets from games)

This deal for example I feel is an amazing one. Far Cry Blood dragon is one of my favourite games, and the assassin creed game is great as well. Would say worth the purchase even for Uplay if I didn't already have Blood Dragon on steam already and if I was more committed or had less hate towards Ubi.

        So thanks OP!!

      LOL, copy and paste

  • too bad I've got 2 out of the 4 games, otherwise not a bad deal :)

  • +2

I like uplay and origin better than steam, people are just opposed to anything that isn't steam.

    • +1

So true. I even have a friend that was telling me he don't want to get division on PC because it's on uplay. I was like u w0t m8?

Uplay is perfectly normal. Not to mention you actually get more incentive for playing games on uplay with the uplay points to unlock stuff plus you can 20% off everything in their online store if you use 100 uplay points from your account to get the voucher.

Steam only have trading cards which I don't even care about.

      • You can tell him to buy the same game for a higher price on Steam then =)

Steam has division for 79 usd I think… or was it 69 usd…

  • worth it for FC3 music alone :D epic!

  • I'm completely un-enticed by these games.
