Samsung Galaxy S7 OR S7 Edge. Can't Decide

Hey OzB Community,

Which would you choose, S7 or the Edge variant.

I want your opinion and why I should Pre-order that specific model variant.

I know the main things such as battery difference, size.
But can't nail the head to choosing one..

    Question to start with.

Why are those your only 2 options? Are you very picky with device/brand?

Reason I ask is because some alternatives which are cheaper are LG G5, LG G4 (previous gen but very good device), Xiaomi Mi5 Pro, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 (different league, but extremely good phone for its price).

Otherwise if none of the above applies to you, I think pick it based on screen size. One is only available in 5.1" and the other only in 5.5".

I'm assuming OP is, which is why they're specifically asking about these two phones only.

      • Wouldn't say picky. Just that if i had to choose between the two…can't decide on which one specifically.

I have the s6 edge and would much rather the standard s6 as the edge doesn't do anything that I find useful or helpful.
And cases fit better imo and it's easier to pick up with wider side frame.

Not that I don't like my edge it's still a great feature and looks awesome but I wouldn't pay more for it.

  • I initially wanted the s7 edge but when I saw the dummies I realised it was a little too tall for my liking

If the S6Edge is anything like the S7Edge, the edges dig uncomfortably into your palm when you hold on to it. Also it's really hard to find a good tempered glass protector for a curved screen, drove my buddy nuts trying to find a good one, he's still looking around…

    • What's wrong with ones on ebay?

    • If the S6Edge is anything like the S7Edge, the edges dig uncomfortably into your palm when you hold on to it.

This has reportedly been fixed. Can't be certain until reviews release though.

      • They've added curves to the back (i.e. like Note 5) which helps apparently to both S7 and S7 Edge.

    • This. I had the S6 Edge as well and found the edges uncomfortable when holding in the hand. Wish I got the standard S6.

I had a play with the S7 Edge in store. It's slightly better but the edges still aren't comfortable. I'd go the S7 standard because of this.

  • s7 edge, nicer specs and new edge functions (last year would've said s6 over the edge)

i prefer the s7. Medium size 5.1 inches, can be fit on palm easily.
For the edge, bigger doesn't always mean better. a bigger phone can be hard to fit in your pocket, and causing discomfort. holding it is another issue.
I had a g3 before, the size is similar to the edge. Had a pretty Good impression at the start, liked the big screen.
But after using it for a year, i realise a 5.5 inches phone is not easy to hold, lots of trouble trying to use it on one hand(I have long fingers, people often ask me if i play piano. So if you have a small hand, the 5.5inch wont do you any good unless you intend to use it in both hands.)
Phone is hard to fit in my pocket, even when it fits, it will cause discomfort on my thigh.
Also the edged screen will cause problem with the screen protector.
Because it is curved, not every screen protector will stick perfectly on the screen, especially when you have the case on, the case will easily lift the protector up on the edge(even a flat screen will cause the same issue, but a curved one cause more).
And the edge interface is really not something that i needed or something that im impress with. To me its more like a gimmick.
Although the extra 600mAh is good, but i will still pick the s7.

  • I'd go for the standard. Even though I think the Edge is the more aesthetically pleasing of the two, I can't help but feel that the edges would increase chances of breaking the screen. I already stay away from glass-backed phones for the same reason. Plus, cheaper.

  • I'm personally ordering the S7 Edge because I need the larger battery, marginally bigger screen real estate and the edge functions are improved from the S6 Edge and are quiet nifty. The Edge is a little more aesthetically pleasing as pointed out by others. But if you require none of these 'extras', then you could save yourself $100 or so and go with the standard S7. In either case, hope you enjoy your S7 variant. Cheers

  • s7, the 7edge is a little too big and tall and I dont like how the edge 6 fits in the hand, edges are a bit 'sharp' to hold, assume 7edge will be similar..

Standard. Edge is way too big. Even the normal S7 is bigger than it should be.

    • What should it be?

      • -1

        About 4.5 inches.

        • Oh, you can let Samsung know they got it wrong on Facebook.

@ozhunter: I really don't give a shit about your opinions. It was specifically a thread about personal preference. The iPhone 6S is only 4.7 and is the most popular phone in the world.

        • @MrMcHairyHead:

That's not the reason why it's the most popular. The Galaxy S5 and S6 are among the most popular android phones and both are 5.1in.

  • Go for the s7 edge. Better battery life is always good and there is a big difference in them both.
Larger screen for some added space.
