I wish it is in Sydney.

Likewise with an open hand through your screen :)

      • +3

Wasn't that how Melbourne was formed?

OP sorry to hear about your business, hope it works out for you.

  • +7

Shame your dad didn't settle. My dad won't come here, says it's too hot.

    • +1

Don't tell him about the spiders then!

      • He knows! And the snakes! lol

Wonder if he'd cope with green tree frogs jumping on him in bed (they're "visiting" us in the house at the moment!).

        • +2
        • +2

@KaptnKaos: Cute frogs. Got plenty of those at the moment.

        • -4

          @whodidthat:

eeeeek! If that jumped on my face at night it'd turn into frog puree very, very quickly.

        • @KaptnKaos: frogs are nice. i like the tiny ones

        • -1

          @kima:

I've always been curious… What do they taste like?

        • @KaptnKaos: like chicken. More firm though

        • +1

          @KaptnKaos: i don't eat them, yuck

      • +5

        And Drop Bears

        • Unfortunately, none of those around here :(

        • +2

@whodidthat: you mean fortunately. your lucky those bloodsuckers aren't in your area. i almost got killed by one, was in hospital for months

        • +2

          @kima:

          :O

        • @kima: I took my kiwi girlfriend camping last week and she was just sitting in a camp chair and a wombat waddle up and bit her on the foot. It didn't pierce the skin but it would of hurt. I now can tell tourists of something else to be scared of haha

        • @slimdavy5: yes wombats are very cranky, I know a few people who have been bitten on the shins

    • +2

Too hot? Is dad living in Antartica before?

      • Close, UK

        I love heat, he doesn't.

        • Unless I am mistaken, a couple of times that I have been to your shop, I found an Indian uncle or his daughter managing the shop. Guess you hired them..

        • +1

          @sridhar:
No the Uncle is my dad. He made many friends here lol he has been gone almost a year but ppl still ask for him.
The girl is a family friend who is working until closure.

        • +1

I see. I am guessing your dad would hate to visit India with its hot humid weather.

        • +2

          @edfoo:
He would actually love it considering our elders migrated from India to Pakistan
but we are in Pakistan now

        • +2

@30Something: So once he is surrounded by his own people, all crappy weather is forgiven :P
Wish your dad all the best.

        • @edfoo:
Not trying to be defensive but man Pak (majority of area) gets 4 seasons a year.. Yeah summers can be really hot like 40ish but they only last few months and then spring autumn and winter are nice.

        • +1

@30Something: I never knew that about Pakistan. Interesting.

      • Yoda, is that you?

    • +1

He's missing the scantily clad women..

  • +3

All the best in your new journey!

  • Did you break even?

    • +1

When my dad was working he was drawing a salary but it worked out to be like $2 an hour.
Since we now paying for staff .. there is no break even

OP - Thanks for promoting your sale on OzBargain - despite our love of a good deal we are sorry to hear things didn't work out as you'd hoped.
Users here love honest/transparent posters who give us a 'personal story' to go along with the deal.

Could you do us a favour and post a few individual 'GOOD ITEMS' deals you mention in the post? I't may tempt us to get in the car and visit!

    • +2

      Rawm
I am preparing a list. Update shortly

    • Parking can be a bit difficult in and around the Glenhuntly area… too many times I find myself parking on either Grange Road, Royal Avenue, the Woolworths end of Glenhuntly Rd or the adjoining Woolworths car park, then having to hot-foot it.

          Tips-

          1. Use your phone and complete a video store tour, then upload to YouTube.
          2. Make it a blanket 40% or 50% off storewide if possible?
          3. Use lots of signage so customers know what they are likely to pay; '30% off' can seem a little confusing and not overly attractive for your average shopper!
          4. Put a framed photo of Queen Elizabeth behind the counter saying "I approve of this sale" eg. http://imgur.com/1bv00WC Glenhuntly has a reputation for being a little 'posh'.
        • +4

          @rawm:
Hahaha Thanks for the tips mate
I will work on the blanket offer.
I will do a special deal for you..TODAY ONLY Come down (till 5pm) and if you do not end up considering anything worth buying. I will reimburse you for petrol (upto $10)
;) just a bit of fun

  • +5

OP - one thing you might want to add is your opening hours throughout the week. That way we'll know when to visit and when you might be closed.

    • +2

      Just updated it.

  • -4

    No online sale? :(

    • +6

Mate if I had the time to run an online store, I might have actually continued trading

      • Thats a fair call :) I +1Ed this for you earlier anyway, best of luck with what comes next.

  • Hi, do you have any non plastic drink bottles in stock? 1 litre stainless bottles would be perfect. Thank you.

  • +14

Just got back from the sale, spent $50 on stuff and got pleeeenty of value.
Particularly good if someone is moving into a new place and needs stuff for kitchen, laundry etc. but also has heaps of stationary, garden, electrical stuff. Super cheap.
Stock up on birthday/engagement/congrats cards for 50c each!

    • +1

      Thanks for the endorsement
      Cheers

  • How much was that Lara Bingle trash can/speakers thing haha lol?

    Asking for a mate. Srs

However for you it will be $15
Btw its a trash can with cigs butt holder on top
      Also only 1 left

      • Hahaha thanks for the quick reply… damn wish I was near Vic right now.. unfortunately I am one state away

Ah well my mate then will have to wait and pray he sees another one of that.. thanks hope the closing down sales go well

  • -4

If it is a $2 shop then why are there things above $10 or even above $2?

    Just saying.

    • +2

i had this same argument with my mother when i was 5 years old. she didn't win. I went in with $2 and chose this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR1c2ysHl7Q well she ended up paying the difference to shut me up. not sure what happened to the dog though

      • Are you 6 now?

        • +3

          6 and 9 quarters

        • +2

          @kima:

Now that's what I call good Maths.

  • +2

    I love your post.
Im coming down tomorrow to look for a bargain. (Im in Caulfield, some people in this area will haggle you to death, but I wont).\

ps. Sad the shop has to go. Sorry for you.

    • Hahaha yeah we had our share of furstrating (now funny) price haggles. Even today a lady wanted to pay $1 instead of 1.25 :(

      • +5

I must add though that I did experience an exact opposite situation as well where an old lady wanted to pay full price for $20 clock because she did not want me to lose too much.. and she is on pension .. Reminds me of youtube social experiment videos

  • +1

I live about 30 mins away but will try to get down tomorrow as well… sorry it did not work out for your Dad..hope he is happy where ever he ends up :)

    • You are welcome and thanks for the wishes. It will be great if you can make it .. Just remember tomorrow we open at 1pm.
      Cheers

  • +4

+1 for just being an open and upfront guy. Wishing you and your family all best!

    • +1

      Thanks man

  • +5

(New) Australians like you are what has made this country great. Thanks OP.

    • +5

To be honest it has been a two way lane. Aus has been really great with me as well.

  • Ahh I was going to drop by before work today but you open at 1pm..maybe another time! Good luck with your sales

    • Sorry mate few other commitments make it hard to open early on Sunday.

  • Shame OP. However, this explains how the Indian run discount store near my home is always empty but still open ;)

    • Hahaha yeah kids keeping the dad busy ;)

      • even at $2/hr you might be doing him a favor. older people can deteriorate quickly if they have nothing to do and feel no purpose in life. for him to socialize and keep his brain a little bit active is good for him.

        • That is very true. Overall it (running business) has been a very positive experience.
It has provided many development opportunities for myself as well.

  • HI OP, do you have magnetic ball phone holders in stock?

    • No sorry

      • Would you have any car phone holders available?

  • See you later today. ;)

  • Hi again 30something. Do you have any clear glass jars or bottles suitable for preserving food? The larger the better! Thanks.

  • damn i wished i lived in victoria :(

  • Hi OP, do you have any clamp led light/spotlight? Or any kind of plug in led lighting ?

    • We do but only very basics one. I have updated drop box with four new pics

  • OP - would you have any car phone holders available?

    • Sorry mate all sold

  • Hi30something,

Any big plastic containers left? Disposable containers? If yes, how much are they like?

  • Poor form! Came today and found the store closed even though it's 3:50PM. :(

    • +2

      Hi Astroe,
I do apologize. My brother had an assignment due and the day was very slow (crappy weather) so he closed it early. I will PM you and try to compensate for the inconvenience.

      • Thanks for reaching out, completely understandable. :)

  • Darn it, your in different city. My brother is a primary school teacher and he would have gone bonkers for arts and crafts stuff.
