Now that Dick Smith is going under, who will replace them as WORST electronics store?

Will JB do it again?

What about Hardly Normal? Will they "Go, Harvey, go!"? I worked at a Dick Smith that had a HN across the road close down a few years back. Are they stable?

When will Myer's home entertainment disappear? I know my store has always been pretty ordinary, tucked away on the top floor.

Are we counting down until the last time we come in to see the good good good guys?

Will the Office of Officeworks stop working?

Officeworks is actually pretty good for an electronics store.

I reckon the professional himself will be the next one to bite the dust… Goodbye Geriatric Gerry!

Yeah I would suggest Hardly Normal would be the next in line for the crown of worst electronic store…

      • I dunno, TGG have set the bar kinda low IMHO…

I don't mind TGG, they frequently have 20% via ebay and offer a good price match/guarantee policy. Only thing I don't like is the vulturish nature of their floor staff.

        • I've personally never had much issues with JB or TGG so I'm quite happy with them. It's HN that gives me problems so I try to avoid them unless a deal comes up on OzB.

      • I recall one of their TV ads (some time last year IIRC), where they actually referred to themselves as 'Hardly Normal', albeit in the manner that they were special/awesome/etc.

        • they're doing what McDonalds did to Maccas…. they stole our name for them… those bastards!

  • Doesn't JB Hifi sell pretty much everything DSE does?

i find i only shop in store out of desperation.

  • David Jones…oh wait…that one is almost gone too.

    • David Jones became dick smith. My nearest (Doncaster) is now all walled off!

    • I thought their electronics store was "powered by Dick Smith". Wouldn't DSE going out like this also kill DJ's electronics department?

    • It's been gone for over a month now

      • It seems like you are right. I have not been shopping there for a while now but I used to walk around their electronic section. The stuff they had was lesser and lesser each time I visited.

  • should have been a poll

    my vote goes to TGG

  • Contenders: JB Hifi, Jaycar Electronics, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys.
Winner: Harvey Norman or JB Hifi

Harvey Norman for sure. I actually think the good guys are half decent

I like the Good Guys. At least at where I live.

Went to JB wanting to buy a TV, stood there for 20 mins and not a single staff came around to help. All were too busy.

Got on the car and drove to TGG, walked out with a new TV :D.

So TGG imo shouldn't be on the list !

  • To be fair, DSE were very far from the worst… I have two consoles + two tvs plus various other crap from DSE.

I despise JB. HN is down there but not as bad. I look back fondly on DSE and really dont see any good side to JB and mostly HN.

    • Agreed. Although Dick Smith had some very dodgy practices, they also had some ripper deals. We've prob bought more (small) electronic stuff from them than all of the others put together. Unlike many others, I'm sad to see them, well their deals anyway, go.

IMO all of the electronics stores have pros and cons, but the more that stay in business and keep competition healthy the better.
