Where Do You Buy Your Glasses? Lost Mine Recently :'(

Hey guys,

I lost my glasses in the University of Sydney. I bought these glasses in early January so I've already used my Medibank cover.

Can you pls recommend any cheap glass sites? Both online and in-person?

I have astigmatism which means my lens need compression. That usually costs $40-80 extra. I'd prefer to keep costs beneath $200.

Thanks guys! OZB always delivers :P

I use these guys for all my glasses and my sons. Saved me a fortune! Postage is a little slow.

    • Thanks, slyfox! How long is the postage approximately and how much do you usually pay for a pair of glasses?

      • Glasses start around US$10 but you'll want to add anti-reflective coating for $5 otherwise you end up hating them like this guy lolol

        Shipping is US$10 flat

I've bought their $20 frame+lens before and they feel flimsy but do the job.

I've also bought $100 prescription sunnies from them too and they were on par with anything you could buy from retailers here.

        Would recommend!

  • I have used 39dollarglasses multiple times.

I tend to scratch up or misplace glasses so have a couple of pairs. Note that they also have slightly slow postage.

Jus go to Spec savers and have an eye test. It's bulkk billed, get print out of prescription, order online. Zenni was good for me too.

  • I got three pairs for $138 delivered the last time Clearly.com.au had a sale - I also have astigmatism so my prescription is a little wonky too

I really like sneakingduck.com.au - you can get up to 5 frames send to you in a sample kit to try on and send back with no buy commitment. I went to town recently, buying 3 pairs with my extras insurance in December, then another 4 pairs when it rolled over in Jan. They do 50% off any additional pairs after the first order so I timed it well so I only paid full price on 1 of the 7 pairs.

    • Who needs seven pairs of glasses?

    heaps of links/info

(p.s. i wrote up most of it.. have bought from zenni years ago.. it took about a month to arrive from pakistan.. going on memory)

  • michelle, don't know about lens costing more for astigmitation??
i've had the condition 10 years and don't think I heard that before.
dunno, maybe it's an extra, or yours is worse than mine.

for local online.. i could recommend ausspecs.

if you have some frames lying around.. or have a friend with a spare set, perhaps get a quote from lenspro for a replacement lens

    • My right eye is -3.75 which is pretty bad. If I don't compress the lens, my glasses will look like this. Yikes! :)

  • also caveat emptor: Luxottica Group rant https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/27669
(I never buy from these people)

  • I bought two pairs off visiondirect.com.au. they're pretty good, but you need to know your prescription. they send glasses from hong kong via courier. if you have some experience adjusting glasses frames you can DIY. they're also on cashrewards and usually have a 10% off coupon floating around the internet.

  • I buy my mum's from zenni optical, they come in a few weeks and she doesn't mind them. They're so cheap she usually orders a bunch of pairs at a time so she can keep spares around the house and in the car

  • When you get your eyes tested and you ask them for a copy of your prescription, make sure that they include that measurement from pupil to pupil. I know OPSM left that bit of vital info off my script initially.
