hows the water resistance on this? can it actually take full rain, or more just a bit of a sprinkle.

Although as a down jacket with a hoodie, i think this is a good price. I found them (uniqlo ones) very useful when travelling light, but need to keep warm.

Haha… good luck with that! Bought one of these overseas a few years ago and they soak in the rain.
But I guess OP is somewhat correct in saying that it "cover(s) your upper body from wet" but if you're thinking these things are "waterproof" then you'll be disappointed.
Yeah synthetic down is better than duck/goose down as it doesn't lose its loft as bad when wet.
This will have pretty poor insulating properties once wet.
A taped seam lightweight jacket which you can throw in the bottom of your bag would be more effective.

Normally their jackets are one size smaller than you would expect, is this the case? i.e. I get their large hoodies instead of medium.
