How was OzBargain website developed?

I wonder how the ozbargain website was built, what kind of software-development languages it uses. Or maybe if it is based on a pre-made platform from another company.

I want to build (from the scratch) or buy, hire, etc something similar to ozbargain website for a country in South America, but I don't know where to start because ozbargain website seems very robust, complete and difficult.

Any idea or thoughts are welcomed,

Thanks guys.

Not sure about these days, but a few years ago when I looked at it, the easiest way to duplicate what OzBargain is doing would be using something like Pligg, now known as Kliqqi but no new development. Drupal, which OzBargain originally based on, has a few voting modules as well which you can use.

A website is never "done" though. There's continue maintenance and new features to implement when the usage pattern changes.

    • Thanks, and how ozbargain website knows a post is spam, duplicate or etc.. I suppose not everything is automatically, cause there most be someone (mods) behind checking post..

Both, although i'm not sure it's wise to tell people how spam posts are filtered.

I was thinking to do the same, South-Americans will love to have a bargain platform like ozbargain (but it seems very complex to replicate for someone who is not familiar with IT lol)

    • yeah, I know. The main issue I find so far is the spam and targeted offers… very difficult to get rid of them

      • you will always need to have some people working on it (moderators-you can hire me :D)

    • You could just make a weekly flyer - or a fax service

Yes, I was also thinking South America needs this. People are getting ripped off there on a daily basis…

At colombiabargain.com, the only bargain most are interested in is going to sleep with something in your stomach and without any bullet holes in you

        Eneloops not so much
