Foldable 26" Mountain Bike $111.96 + Postage ($23.52 to Metro Adelaide, Free Sydney Pickup) @ The Sports HQ

MARCH2016

TL;DR Less than $150 for a folding bike with shocks? Sign me up! Other deals on the site too, as the 30% off coupon code should work for most items - apparently there are some exceptions for the code.

Longer story: I was in the market for a folding bike with shocks, as I already have one but my ride to work is a bit bumpy. I found someone on GumTree listing this model, but he hadn't really looked after it at all. On riding it, it was a pretty decent ride, so I figured I'd see if I could find it brand new. The shop in question has a 30% off anything code (some exceptions, apparently), bringing this down to $135.48 delivered to metropolitan Adelaide. If you checkout using Paypal Express, it will charge you the 'residential' delivery rate, whilst the 'business' delivery rate seems to be higher (an option with the extended checkout) despite the text saying it 'could be' cheaper. Postage to regional South Australia was closer to $40-$50, so YMMV.

Coupon sites say this coupon expires today (???).

  • Can i enter downhill cycling competitions on this like the pros?

    • Downhill you should be ok… some places market this as having '18 gears' cos it has 6 on the right and 3 on the left (front and rear gears or some crap), but I certainly wouldn't be putting as much strain on this folding bike as many people put on proper MTBs.

For me, it'll just be a more enjoyable work commute. Ker-thunk.

… Yeah, that's how bike gears work. The multiplication of front and rear chainwheel's gives you the number of distinct gears.

        • lol thats how gears work in cars bikes and trucks

          thats where you gotta drive

        • @tonyjzx: not really. AFAIK automotive gearboxes have a one to one relationship of input and output gears, changing gears simply disengages one set and engages abother (of a different ratio).

Lol check the review below - dude bent the bottom bracket riding mild trail…

What you save on the bike you could put into medical expenses :)

    Cheaper than amazon.

Beware cheap components though - http://www.amazon.com/review/R3POGU55OIK87M/ref=cm_cr_dp_tit…

cheap, folding, off-road - you have got to be freakin' kidding. Turn and run. Do not look back!

Never mind the boat-anchor weight, or the bottom-of-the-barrel components. It is not fit for any purpose.
Shocks are for off road, where any cheap fame will break. A cheap folding frame? Thats crazy.
A folding bike should be light enough to carry. Or at least lift into the boot. Not this one.

Seriously, if your commute is bumpy, you probably just need a bike with fat, lower-pressure tyres. It will be so much easier to ride that the above-linked bike.

Full disclosure: I did get a folding full-suspension 20" bike via OZB a few years ago. Its good for riding with the kids as it slows me down. A lot. Cost less than $50 though.

    • You're probably right. It's too late for me. I suppose I could flog it off on GT or FB later if it comes to that. :P

Good luck. I hope it does not put you off riding. And when I say "fat" tyres, I mean something like 50mm MTB slicks, not those silly motorbike-sized ones.

  • Has it already been assembled or is it a DIY situation?

    • Seems to be DIY.

    crazy heavy…Weight 17.5kg
dont do it…youll just end up buying a motor for it
or not ride it….either way, this sucks as a concept and is executed poorly

Dual suspension folding bike?? .. only use as a boat anchor.

  • What if it folds during a massive downhill air?

Put your savings into motorcycle helmet, leathers and pads

And keep the rest for pending fractures and dental work

When folded does it fit in a standard rubbish bin ? :)

    • probably more a hard waste type folding mtb :D

For an extra $4 they will drop is off at the tip near your house, saving you the trouble.

  • Stowabike Folding City V2 Compact Bike $104.96 good price i guess.

    • That one claims to have steel mudguards. Epic.

I think this one looks better from Kogan @ $160 (after disc)
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Fortis-Urban-Traveller-20-Folding…

    • Thats actually looking very decent for the price. Looks like a Dahon clone. But … Kogan.
I'd take the 100kg weight capacity with a large dose of salt, if you want those single-wall wheels to last. Could be OK for a smaller rider.
