PlayStation VR coming in Oct 2016

Just got a newsletter saying that PlayStation VR will be available in October 2016, priced at A$549.95 RRP, and they are now taking pre-orders for it.

Anyone tried the demo before on their roadshows? Is it really worth the price? It's even more expensive than the PS4 console itself..
I wonder whether VR gaming will really take off well.

  • Quite a hefty price tag, I would definitely want to try it before I bought it

  • Wow, this thing would want to be an absolute game changer to be worth that much..

In regards to pricing it's actually a lot cheaper than Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. The pricing itself is not what worries me at all. My worry is more towards how Sony have a habit of just moving on and giving customers like myself the proverbial finger when they don't sell as well as they had hoped. PlayStation TV, PS TV, PS Move, PS Vita. Flucked them all off even though there were large communities for each. Sony can be ruthless and this is coming from a long time fan and customer of PS.

    • I share your fear. I think the difference is that VR is really starting to establish itself whereas things like PS Move were a reaction to the Wii cutting into their console sales.

Cheap considering the competition and (hopefully) the library of games that will surely be developed for it.

  • Cheapest real vr out of the main 3. Will definitely pick one up.

  • I think the range of VR PS4 games will be limited in comparison to the PC. There will be a lot developed for the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and other VR headsets.

    • more likely to be the reverse actually

      • And limited to the PS4s current hardware.

        • True there is considerable pro and cons to each set

  • Requires the Playstation Camera which isn't included so that adds another $84 to the total price

    • Get it for $5 here while you can!

  • There seems to only be only one game that I'm interested in which would be Ace Combat, although I'm happy for eve fans, even then it wouldn't be worth investing $600 plus after a camera as well, it seems that only new games are available which tells me that this would not have backward support for existing games such as Street Fighter 5 which is not really the sort of game that would be 3D anyway, will be interesting to see how Sony go with this in terms of developer support and life of the product

  • I would wait until theres enough games out to play on…

  • Star wars battlefield vr will be exclusive to sony so thats sold me. And if no mans sky gets vr its should be awesome. Already have the camera, the move controllers arent mandatory but would help with some gameplay so i will have to get a couple of them by october.

MS is nowhere to be seen and im not buying a $1k pC then an occulus so for me a $549 addition to my existing setup works well for me

  • Should've bought some of those Move controllers when they were chucking out unsold stock… Apparently EB Games have removed their pre-owned move controllers. Probably for a re-package and price increase.

Everyone seems to have a strong opinion on VR. Now I don't know if it will be awesome, I'm hoping like hell it will be (already preordered)

This is the way I see it.

You can talk spec, you can read reviews, you can watch videos but the only true way to experience VR is to actually try it.

It's like someone looking at postcards and videos of the Grand Canyon then saying how unimpressive it is. I can assure you it is impressive.

    Seeing it beleving.

    Bring it on I say!!

  • News article included BigW as a stockist so maybe the current discounted BigW giftcard deal would be beneficial
