Still going on the last deal coffee, but can I say that I really like splitting the deals between light and dark roasts.

    • Glad to hear that you're enjoying the different profiles :-) Have a great weekend!

  • Hey I still have beans from a year ago (have stopped drinking coffee for a while).

So I have an unpopened bag sitting there for a year and then another in the freezer for a year.

Are they both usable despite losing flavour?

Store bought coffee often has a best before date of 1 year from packing, sometimes even longer. Coffee is only fresh for the first few weeks and this is when it will perform the best. You're pushing it a bit with the timeframe.

It may be drinkable but how enjoyable it is is debatable/subjective :-)

    • all you can do is try it. see if it hasn't developed any mould. probably best grinded for filtered. But if you really are into coffee then that goes straight to the bin.

I have my months when i don't drink coffee and 2kg of manna is just too much. So I just go to my local cafe and pick up a 500g.

The freezer coffee should be fine. I leave small amounts of beans in sealed bags in the freezer in case I forget to order and run out. Not as good as fresh but drinkable at 1+ years.

The room temperature beans will probably still give you sopmething better than what you get given as "coffee" in many places.

    Awesome, well timed.

  • Which of these 2 bundles would you recommend that thas decent crema and flavour for an espresso machine?

    • +1

The first option will have more crema as it is a darker roast and will perform well through an espresso machine.
The second option have more unique florally/ fruity flavours and can still be extracted through your machine but will have less crema and more acidity :-)

  • Hey Rep, which bundle would you recommend for cold drip?

    • 2nd bundle :-) They will be great for cold drip! I have an Ethiopian just roasted that is a very light roast that would be ideal for you for cold drip. If you want to leave a note in Paypal (cold drip speak to Simon) then I'll make sure it finds it's way out to you :-)

  • Just received my order, as promptly as ever, in time for the extra long weekend. Thanks Simon.

Good to have the choice of lighter roasts, which is what I've opted for, as I'm mostly an espresso drinker. Would these beans be inferior for milk based drinks (cappuccino) though?

Thanks, great to hear and hope you have a fantastic long weekend :-) They should still perform well but are quite aromatic coffees and more unique so not necessarily the typical flavours that people are expecting through milk coffee. Also with lighter roast they can curdle the milk a bit more due to higher acidity.

It is subjective though so see how you get on. I welcome you're opinion/feedback :-)

      • Wow…speaking of promptness - thanks for the info :-)

I do make the occasional cappuccino, although mostly for others, so I'll see how I go. If anything, I expect that the extra complexities / flavours of these beans may be lost in the milk. In other words, it's probably a bit like using an XO Cognac to make a cocktail (or an Irish coffee for that matter). Not that there's anything wrong with that if that's your thing :-)
