Hey Oz Bargain Community,
If you're flat chat, please feel welcome to skip to the deal details in bold below :)
Earlier this month I was lucky enough to get an invite (likely a wild card addition, but I'll happily be a wild card for an opportunity as terrific as this was for Lime Blue Coffee) to a dinner with the Leadership Team and Board Members of one of our two main delivery partners. To my surprise, it was a fairly small group of people as it was set up to be a 1:1 ratio (1 Board Members or member of the Leadership Team from the delivery company for each guest); only a couple of dozen people in the room, which proved to be a truly wonderful opportunity to have direct and productive discussions about logistics. I must tip my hat to them, as I can't fault them of the solution focused energy and excitement they showed for logistics improvements and innovations. During that evening I was able to attain some key insights as to the delivery innovates currently in the works (which I am really looking forward to adopting for Lime Blue) and I candidly discussed pain points for our customers (you) and us (Lime Blue Coffee). Stemming from these productive discussions we may hopefully find a fantastic win-win-win scenario in which the delivery company saves money while increasing delivery efficiency, these savings trickles to us and in turn to you…it's not over the line yet, so by no means am I going to count my chickens before they hatch, but things are hopefully heading in the right direction, so I have my fingers crossed and ear to the ground. Now I know how much paying shipping is a pain point for many and I'm one of them as my initial thought when I see a shipping cost is that I don't love paying shipping either, but it's a cost of convenience and I believe convenience is an important thing when it frees up time for more productive and engaging opportunities life has to offer. Whenever I see a shipping cost and start to think "oh no there's a shipping fee…" I stop that thought in its tracks, then I do a quick calculation of the time it would take to go to the store in-person, lining up and driving back home; generally speaking going to a store in-person specifically to save the delivery cost would mean I'd be valuing my time at around $10 per hour (and much less for interstate deliveries, haha an interstate trip to save shipping sure would be dedication to the no shipping fee pursuit), so of course paying shipping is the clear winner as that's less than half the legal minimum wage and time is the most valuable commodity in the world, which gets more valuable as you spend it. Of course, if I'm already going near the store for another reason or the in-person store has a special experience/personality, that's a different story and I don't do any sort of shipping cost vs. value of time calculation. I understand you may be starting to think "where is this semi-ramble heading…please hurry up to the point" (of course that's if you're still reading and haven't already jumped to read the deal details in bold below), so I’ll try to speed things up… Our primary goal is to create the best value for money experience we possible can, continuing to try and further improve the experience every day. This means the viably highest quality coffee delivered for the most affordable prices we can offer, while still keeping the lights on at our HQ. With this in mind, taking into account the insights from the logistics dinner, feedback from our wonderful customer, combined with our costs at present and moving forward in the near future, we need to change our delivery cost structure in the near future. At present our $69 free shipping threshold has remained unchanged for over 2 years, even though shipping costs increase for us every year. We subsidise our flat rate shipping fees for you, which means on average we pay more shipping than you pay, added to which the orders that get free shipping, is making the gap between our shipping costs and revenue far too large. This means something needs to change, as continuing in this fashion is too financially risky to maintain that threshold for much longer given where costs currently are and where they are heading. To give you an idea of the current difference based on the most recent quarter our shipping costs are about 2.5 times more than the shipping paid by customers and our margins on coffee started off relatively small (not complaining at all, that's the model we've chosen) and have shrunk further over the last year or so as we haven't been passing on the full cost increases we've experienced for coffee. As you can see it's a bit of a balancing act to keep all the wheels on and moving in the right direction, so when I bring things like this up it's because I've looked into the near future (not crystal ball skills, more excel forecasting models) and it's clear a change is needed in order for Lime Blue to have a long-term future. All that said, I love it Lime Blue and am not worried as I believe through discipline and continuing to regularly self audit everything I strongly believe Lime Blue hopefully has a long future ahead. With a solution driven approach we’ve always looked to try and prevent issues before they occur rather than seeing an issue and waiting for it to arrive to address it. However, please don't panic about shipping costs for you just yet, as there's two sides to this coin. Although the free shipping threshold will need to increase a bit, at the same time we will be decreasing the flat rate paid shipping costs for customers to help balance out the need for this change. In a nutshell, the potential win-win-win logistics deal currently in progress stemming from that special dinner may result in a cost reduction for smaller packages, but our cost for larger packages will continue to rise. Now it will take some time for the logistics deal to get over the line or not from our perspective, but in anticipation with high hopes, soon we will reduce our flat rate paid shipping costs to you before we know the outcome of the logistics deal with the delivery company (if the deal doesn't get over the line we may need to reassess shipping again, but that's a hypothetical that we don't need to worry about either way for a little while) in line with when we need to increase the free shipping threshold. I know some of you will be jumping for joy about the change, others will be stomping their feet and some won't care a great deal one way or another (especially given you hopefully won't find it ultra dramatic). As such, in fairness and transparency this deal is to provide everyone with an opportunity to lock in a whopping 50% saving from all our Single Origin, Blends and Single Estate Coffees for up to 8+ months worth of orders based on the current free shipping thresholds!!!
Deal valid for orders placed until Tuesday 28/10/2025, unless sold out before. Hey lime blue coffee, any tips for Colombia cauca from the previous deal? I’m a bit struggling with it, have to grind very fine but it’s still too fast at about 20s. My recipe is 17.5g in 35 out. Normally I grind your coffee at 13-15, with this one I’m down to 9.
Tastes good, but maybe it can taste even better?
