Local Government Elections cold calling

Hi All,

Just a quick question, I have been initiated with cold calls from the suburb running for election and also from the lord mayor candidate, they are all pre recorded messages. I have had at least 3 a day for the last week. its driving me bonkers. My question is, I am on the do not call register, are these calls allowed under the do not call register rules. Or am I entitled to make a complaint.

Thanks

  • Political organisations, charities, religious organisations and genuine market research are exempted from the do not call register.
I would suggest a call to the mayor (usually they publish their mobiles on council website) to complain would be in order.

    • thanks for your response, Would the council care, if the person's calling are for the opposite party, IE, the calls are from the people that are running for the spot, not the current local member or the current lord mayor. Who would i submit the complaint to?

      • The candidates need to register and that includes their phone number. I suggest you call the candidate directly.

        • Many thanks. I will complain, although, i don't think it would achieve much! Thanks for your time.

        • @Topdog:
it prob wont do much but if you do it a 9pm or 6am they may get the idea on how anoying it is.
you can also say becuase of the call you wont be voting for them.

    • Find the candidates phone number, call them at 3am to complain. I bet it won't happen again

  • found a number, called, someone answered, she could not care less, LOL

    • was it the councilor?

    • Call again!

      • Better yet, post here the number with a message asking anybody who gets unwanted political calls to report them to that number.
Because I am lazy and gutless, I sometimes just send a fax to numbers that annoy. You can tell the fax machine to retry 25 times you know.

        • i got a call from someone that was extremely rude to me so i straight away did that fax thing from work, i put the phone on speaker and laughed at how irate she got yelling back at the fax machine. she answered every single time and even tried ringing it back twice. when i rang her next time her attitude magically changed.

  • The elections are tomorrow.
It shouldn't be necessary to prevent these types of calls, but opting for a silent number does thwart almost all regular telemarketing (no need to even bother with the call register) and 100% of calls that are based on openly listed numbers, like these.

    • Yes, it shouldn't be, but what politician would ever vote to prevent their important message from getting out!

      • In specific relation to calls like these, politicians smart enough to not allow the worst excesses and stupidity of U.S. electioneering.. The challenging mayoral candidate up here didn't even commission really, really, needed research into the basic feasibility of his signature (transport) election policy, so little chance of that, from his ilk. Election will be pretty close, regardless. He may even win…

  • +1

    I have been initiated

    "inundated"

    And I sympathise! :/

  • When they ring you and pester all of the time the best way is to
get a thunder whistle blow that a couple of times
    won't bother you again.

  • got this from john howard's office years ago. every single day i had his pamphlets in the mail box and he started this long before the other candidates did. i remember also getting the multiple phone calls each day from his office. i can understand a couple of times but it was really overboard. i figured it was pointless doing anything about it, as if politicians are going to listen to your problems lol

  • I GOT A CALL FROM A POLITICAL PARTY(VOLUNTEER WORKER) EXPLAINED MY ISSUES
WITH THIS OLDER FEMALE. SHE SAID THAT THE POLITICIAN AGREES WITH YOU
ISSUES ECT. WHEN SHE BACK INTO GOVERNMENT ALL WAS FORGOTTEN.
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT WITH THIS PARTY(a—P
