Good Longboard/Skateboard for Beginners?

I got a penny board for my birthday and have been riding it for a couple months now, ready to move onto a skateboard. Any recommendations for cheap beginner skateboards just for cruising around? Eg is it better to get it custom made/what do I need to look out for? I've looked around online and have heard that it's easier to use a longboard? Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking of getting a cruiser thanks to the suggestions below! http://www.zflex.com/au/jay-adams-zipper-head-tie-dye.html
If anyone has any feedback on this one it'd be great - cheers!

Just for cruising around? Then maybe a cruiser or longboard. Get big soft wheels, it rolls over cracks better.
My custom skateboard was around $230. $100 deck, $70 trucks, $50 wheels, the rest was for hardware and grip tape.
If you want 'cheap' ones, you can buy a complete skateboard for $100, cruisers/longboards >$200.
I've never ridden on a longboard before so I don't know if its easier than a skateboard…
Go to your local skate shop and have a look. Don't buy it from target, big w, kmart etc. They're rubbish.

    • Thanks for that! I am definitely looking into getting a cruiser. What do you think of the specs of this one just for everyday use? http://www.zflex.com/au/jay-adams-zipper-head-tie-dye.html

      • Complete skateboards don't usually have high specs. But the one linked above looks decent for its price.
You can always upgrade later :)

  • longboards are just forcruising along a footpath nothing else, is that what you are after? Longboards are a lot bigger to carry around after the skate (say going into a store , meeting friends etc)
you are better with a Cruiser board http://www.globebrand.com/au/skateboards/cruiserboards
you will find any skateboard will prob be better than a Penny, whether you choose longboard or normal.
you will find boards with this size wheel http://www.globebrand.com/au/glb-blazer-10525125-bammains-26 easy than this size wheel http://www.globebrand.com/au/glb-half-dip-cruiser-10525244-c…

and what Garfi said above, dont buy from a non skate store, waste of money.

Just a suggestion, but go to the below link use code CSFIX30 and you have a $200 cruiser from a half decent brand for $90. Can't really go wrong.
    https://www.surfstitch.com/product/globe-sun-city-cruiser-sk…

If you like any of the other full priced cruisers/longboards on there, "CSFIX25" will get you 25% off.

    • Thanks have checked them out! Heaps of variety and what a bargain :)

      • Surf stitch looks to be the place to buy.
